Book excerpt: Sanctuary Lake Home emphasizes the importance of family life. Today, more than ever, we need to enjoy our children and grandchildren. Homes are divided, but they can be united in Christian love and harmony. In this play, grandparents Taavi and Susan Mohler and their granddaughters, Sara and Tina, enjoy various lake and home activities together during a week in July. Devotions, prayers, music, and congregation services are part of the family celebration. Rabbis and pastors who are called and anointed by the Holy Spirit are important teachers who help us to focus and encourage us to live holy and exemplary lives.

From an auto accident to a fall at a vacation cottage to pneumonia, Adonai brought Susan and Taavi from tragedies to victories. Along the way, the Mohlers were strengthened spiritually and physically. Yeshua provided all the income and financial blessings that the family needed along the way. All of these adventures started in June of 2013 when the Mohlers joined Relationship Enrichment Center, Beit Tikkun, House of Restoration. Rabbi/Pastor Hector and Evelyn Gomez, Sarah and Jeremy Gomez and other parishioners accepted the Mohler family with open arms. Rachel Mohler first attended R.E.C. The focus of R.E.C. congregation and Rabbi Hector and Evelyn Gomez ministry is finding the Hebrew Roots of the Christian Faith. From the Statement of Faith (Rabbi Gomez): The congregation believes that Yeshua is the Son of God, the Messiah. He is the Word Who became flesh and dwelt among us. [John 1: 1-14] Rabbi Hector and Pastor Evelyn were excited at the Betrothal of their daughter Sarah and Alex McCarthy. The ceremony took place at R.E.C. on Pastor Evelyns birthday in 2014. Also, the betrothal took place on the Feast of Tabernacles eve. Another celebration took place later in the month of June: Eric, the eldest Gomez son, married Katrina in a Messianic Marriage Ceremony at R.E.C. Rabbi Hector presided over the ceremony.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In todays mobile world, we often live at great distances from our childhood homes. Even if we still live where we grew up, the location has often changed significantly from the days of our youth. Years later, it can be difficult to find ways to share childhood memories of home with our children and friends. Author Tengku Halimah wanted to share her memories of growing up in the eastern state of Malaysia, Trengganu, with the younger generation of her family. In Memories of Turtle Land, she reconnects the familys younger generation to a link that could be lost. She reminisces about childhood days spent in Kuala Trengganu with her siblings and the adventures they shared. Despite the strict upbringing of her father, she and her sisters managed to have fun growing up in a family of twelve. Building on information from her mother, Halimah also touches on the family history and the grandeur of the royal families, while not forgetting the ordinary life she had growing up in Trengganu with her siblings. One of the most important things we can do is to share our memories with a younger generation; it provides them with a sense of a history that they may not otherwise understand. This memoir shares vivid memories, interesting and enlightening to those inside and outside the family.

Yet with the Sandhills, bluffs and river valleys, the state has an abundance of riches. The heritage of early settlers is evident. Fort Kearny and Chimney Rock were pioneer harbors. The Fur Trade Museum and the Homestead Monument of America tell of those who came to make a life. Carhenge is a nationally known treasure. The Joslyn Art Museum features world-class art, and the Nebraska National Forest is the largest hand-planted forest in the nation. Native Nebraskan Gretchen Garrison details the places and people that make the Cornhusker State unique.

Book excerpt: Leading animal rights activist Gene Baur examines the real cost of the meat on our plates -- for both humans and animals alike -- in this provocative and thorough examination of the modern farm industry. Many people picture cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens as friendly creatures who live happily within the confines of a peaceful family farm, arriving as food for humans only at the end of their sun-drenched lives. That's what Gene Baur had been told -- but when he first visited a stockyard he realized that this rosy depiction couldn't be more inaccurate. Amid the stench, noise, and filth, his attention was drawn in particular to one sheep who had been cast aside for dead. But as Baur walked by, the sheep raised her head and looked right at him. She was still alive, and the one thing Baur knew for sure that day was that he had to get her to safety. Hilda, as she was later named, was nursed back to health and soon became the first resident of Farm Sanctuary -- an organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and protection of farm animals. The truth is that farm production does not depend on the family farmer with a small herd of animals but instead resembles a large, assembly-line factory. Animals raised for human consumption are confined for the entirety of their lives and often live without companionship, fresh air, or even adequate food and water.Viewed as production units rather than living beings with feelings, ten billion farm animals are exploited specifically for food in the United States every year. In Farm Sanctuary, Baur provides a thoughtprovoking investigation of the ethical questions involved in the production of beef, poultry, pork, milk, and eggs -- and what each of us can do to stop the mistreatment of farm animals and promote compassion. He details the triumphs and the disappointments of more than twenty years on the front lines of the animal protection movement. And he introduces sanctuary. us to some of the special creatures who live at Farm Sanctuary -- from Maya the cow to Marmalade the chicken -- all of whom escaped horrible circumstances to live happier, more peaceful lives. Farm Sanctuary shows how all of us have an opportunity and a responsibility to consume a kinder plate, making a better life for ourselves and animals as well. You will certainly never think of a hamburger or chicken breast the same way after reading this book.
