Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FELICITY L. SUMMERS while in her mid-late teens fi rst met a Boxer her Dad had bought. Her fi rst reaction was that it was the ugliest dog she had seen. Sally was shown by her Dad, she was not one of the greatest of Boxers in the show ring. But Felicity grew to like the breed, handling other Boxers, but her love was playing fi eld hockey in the winter and Vigoro then later started playing cricket. Sam our fi rst Boston Terrier was a 21st birthday present from her Dad, not totally impressed getting a dog for such an important birthday, she grew to love him. There were times in between sport that she would handle the Boxers and Boston Terriers as they aquired other Bostons and Obedience trials. Then came a period where she lived in Sydney New South Wales and then Adelaide, Sth Australia when she did not have a dog to show, she attended shows to just watch. She had a couple of Boston Terriers from her Dad but they died sadly thus she started looking for her foundation Boston Terrier that she could show and start her own breeding line. Thus the kennel prefi x she wanted was Summadale, she never dreamed that she would have much success with some she had bred. She travelled to New Zealand on holidays, visited various breeders, her Dad had offered to pay half if she found a Boston Terrier. She fi nally was led to a wonderful lady, Mrs Ella Howse her kennel prefi x was Bostonridge. So a young bitch was acquired and ever so grateful to have this bitch she called Ani, for she was the Grand mother of one of Australia's top winning bitches named Zebby and also a great great grandmother to Batman, Zebby's son. Felicity knew New Zealand Boston Terrier Club were planning to celebrate the 100 yrs Show, her Dad helped her to take Zebby and Batman to New Zealand. Zebby won that show which is called a Speciality Show only Bostons can enter. New Sth Wales in Australia had later in the year celebrated the event, 100 yr breed Specialty show. Batman won that show. Felicity sold overseas quite a few Boston Terriers, her last puppy, male, went to Norway, where he helped improving the breed. She now is a dog judge and has had the privilege of judging the breed in Texas, USA and Lucca, Italy. She still has a love for this breed which has so far been over 45 years.

Book excerpt: Tom Loxley, an Indian-Australian professor, is less concerned with finishing his book on Henry James than with finding his dog, who is lost in the Australian bush. Joining his daily hunt is Nelly Zhang, an artist whose husband disappeared mysteriously years before Tom met her. Although Nelly helps him search for his beloved pet, Tom isn't sure if he should trust this new friend. Tom has preoccupations other than his book and Nelly and his missing dog, mainly concerning his mother, who is suffering from the various indignities of old age. He is constantly drawn from the cerebral to the primitive -- by his mother's infirmities, as well as by Nelly's attractions. The Lost Dog makes brilliant use of the conventions of suspense and atmosphere while leading us to see anew the ever-present conflicts between our bodies and our minds, the present and the past, the primal and the civilized.

Book excerpt: Sam The Dog Pound Hound is based upon a personal relationship my family had with Our Dog Sam, who was a hound my husband brought home from the pound. He was an older dog, very much in need of a home, and we were a family, very much in need of a family pet. What a wonderful member of our family Sam proved himself to be. He was a protector for our children, a companion to me, and a hard working ranch hand who worked alongside my husband each day. He didn't have a pure bred pedigree, but he was pure in heart and as loyal as they come. If you are considering bringing a pet into your family environment, I encourage you to first check into the dogs/cats who are being cared for by your local animal control center and humane shelter. These animals desperately need homes and you just might find yourself a hero there, as we did with our Sam.

Book excerpt: Who and what is this little dog that has forced his way by leaps and bounds from Boston town to the uttermost parts of this grand country, from the broad Atlantic to the Golden Gate, and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico? Nay, not content with this, but has overrun the imaginary borders north and south until he is fast becoming as great a favorite on the other side as here, and who promises in the near future, unless all signs fail, to cross all oceans, and extend his conquests wherever man is found that can appreciate beauty and fidelity in man's best friend. What passports does he present that he should be entitled to the recognition that he has everywhere accorded him? A dog that has in 35 years or less so thoroughly established himself in the affections of the great body of the American people, so that his friends offer no apology whatever in calling him the American dog, must possess peculiar qualities that endear him to all classes and conditions of men, and I firmly believe that when all the fads for which his native city is so well known have died a natural death, he will be in the early bloom of youth. Yea, in the illimitable future, when the historian McCauley's New Zealander is lamenting over the ruins of that marvelous city of London, he will be accompanied by a Boston terrier, who will doubtless be intelligent enough to share his grief. In reply to the query as to who and what he is, it will be readily recalled that on the birth of possibly the greatest poet the world has ever seen it was stated:
