Book Synopsis The Geology of Iran: Tectonic, Magmatism and Metamorphism by : Mansour Ghorbani
Download or read book The Geology of Iran: Tectonic, Magmatism and Metamorphism written by Mansour Ghorbani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-18 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the geological setting of Iran throughout geological history, referring to paleogeography and general geodynamics. Also, all structural units, faults, tectonic phases and orogeny occurred in the geology of Iran have been evaluated. Magmatic and metamorphic rocks along with ophiolitic complexes have extensive outcrops in Iran, and these rocks with Precambrian age constitute its basement. Study and identification of such rocks not only throws light on the geodynamic issues of Iran but also helps in recognition of the mode of formation and evolution of the sedimentary basins located within various structural divisions of the country. Moreover, the majority of metallic and non-metallic mineral deposits are associated either directly or indirectly with magmatic, and at time metamorphic, rocks. In the Magmatism and Metamorphism parts, it is tried to thoroughly consider the various aspects of the igneous rocks, whether intrusive, extrusive or young volcanoes, from the point of view of petrography, geochemistry and geodynamics. In addition, the major intrusive bodies of Iran have been presented along with their petrologic and chronologic specifications in tables, mentioning the bibliographic resources.
Book Synopsis Tectonic Evolution, Collision, and Seismicity of Southwest Asia by : Rasoul Sorkhabi
Download or read book Tectonic Evolution, Collision, and Seismicity of Southwest Asia written by Rasoul Sorkhabi and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southwest Asia is one of the most remarkable regions on Earth in terms of active faulting and folding, large-magnitude earthquakes, volcanic landscapes, petroliferous foreland basins, historical civilizations as well as geologic outcrops that display the protracted and complex 540 m.y. stratigraphic record of Earth's Phanerozoic Era. Emerged from the birth and demise of the Paleo-Tethys and Neo-Tethys oceans, southwest Asia is currently the locus of ongoing tectonic collision between the Eurasia-Arabia continental plates. The region is characterized by the high plateaus of Iran and Anatolia fringed by the lofty ranges of Zagros, Alborz, Caucasus, Taurus, and Pontic mountains; the region also includes the strategic marine domains of the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Caspian, and Mediterranean. This 19-chapter volume, published in honor of Manuel Berberian, a preeminent geologist from the region, brings together a wealth of new data, analyses, and frontier research on the geologic evolution, collisional tectonics, active deformation, and historical and modern seismicity of key areas in southwest Asia.
Book Synopsis Postrevolutionary Iran by : Mehrzad Boroujerdi
Download or read book Postrevolutionary Iran written by Mehrzad Boroujerdi and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1979 revolution fundamentally altered Iran’s political landscape as a generation of inexperienced clerics who did not hail from the ranks of the upper class—and were not tainted by association with the old regime—came to power. The actions and intentions of these truculent new leaders and their lay allies caused major international concern. Meanwhile, Iran’s domestic and foreign policy and its nuclear program have loomed large in daily news coverage. Despite global consternation, however, our knowledge about Iran’s political elite remains skeletal. Nearly four decades after the clergy became the state elite par excellence, there has been no empirical study of the recruitment, composition, and circulation of the Iranian ruling members after 1979. Postrevolutionary Iran: A Political Handbook provides the most comprehensive collection of data on political life in postrevolutionary Iran, including coverage of 36 national elections, more than 400 legal and outlawed political organizations, and family ties among the elite. It provides biographical sketches of more than 2,300 political personalities ranging from cabinet ministers and parliament deputies to clerical, judicial, and military leaders, much of this information previously unavailable in English. Providing a cartography of the complex structure of power in postrevolutionary Iran, this volume offers a window not only into the immediate years before and after the Iranian Revolution but also into what has happened during the last four turbulent decades. This volume and the data it contains will be invaluable to policymakers, researchers, and scholars of the Middle East alike.

Download or read book Nearly News written by Brian Jaeger and published by Brian Jaeger. This book was released on with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good satire is hard to find. It's even harder to write. While this is not a complete guide teaching all of the intricacies of writing satire, it does provide some biting satire and an explanation behind each story. The purpose of many of the articles was to show human flaws but not necessarily to solve problems. You can read right-wing rags or liberal laments for that. While most of the book is written as news articles, you will also find interviews with God and Satan, a sermon, and several opinion pieces from various voices. While nobody is a clear winner in this book, you might note the slightly liberal bias of the author, especially in later years. Even though most of the stories appear in Real Wisconsin News and some of the stories are written specifically about a suburban Milwaukee school district, you will be able to relate to just about all of the content, unless you are living under a rock or from Europe. However, if you are from elsewhere, there is no better way to understand Americans that to see what they find funny about the news. If you enjoy The Onion, The Daily Show, Saturday Night Live, or The Golden Girls, you should like this book. It's a must-read for anyone who cares about the future of our country, even if that person is one of the One Percenters. Great for social studies teachers, social scientists, social climbers, social disease carriers, and socialites alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades, magnetism has seen an enormous expansion into a variety of different areas of research, notably the magnetism of several classes of novel materials that share with truly ferromagnetic materials only the presence of magnetic moments. Volume 22 of the Handbook of Magnetic Materials, like the preceding volumes, has a dual purpose. With contributions from leading authorities in the field, it includes a variety of topics which are intended as self-contained introductions to a given area in the field of magnetism without requiring recourse to the published literature. It is also intended as a reference for scientists active in magnetism research, providing readers with novel trends and achievements in magnetism. Volume 22 comprises topical review articles covering perovskite manganites and their modifications, the magnetocaloric effect in intermetallic compounds and alloys, the scaling potential of particulate media in magnetic tape recording and layered iron superconductor systems. In each of these articles an extensive description is given in graphical as well as in tabular form, much emphasis being placed on the discussion of the experimental material within the framework of physics, chemistry and material science. - Composed of topical review articles written by leading authorities - Introduces given topics in the field of magnetism - Provides the reader with novel trends and achievements in magnetism
