Book Synopsis Collaborative capacity development to complement stroke rehabilitation in Africa by : Quinette Louw
Download or read book Collaborative capacity development to complement stroke rehabilitation in Africa written by Quinette Louw and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This scholarly book focuses on stroke in Africa. Stroke is a leading cause of disability among adults of all ages, contributing significantly to health care costs related to long term implications, particularly if rehabilitation is sub-optimal. Given the burden of stroke in Africa, there is a need for a book that focuses on functioning African stroke survivors and the implications for rehabilitation within the African context. In addition, there is a need to progress with contextualised, person-centred, evidence-based guidance for the rehabilitation of people with stroke in Africa, thereby enabling them to lead socially and economically meaningful lives. The research incorporated in the book used a range of primary and secondary methodological approaches (scoping reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, descriptive studies, surveys, health economics, and clinical practice guideline methodology) to shed new insights into African-centred issues and strategies to optimise function post-stroke.

Book Synopsis Culture and Rural–Urban Revitalisation in South Africa by : Mziwoxolo Sirayi
Download or read book Culture and Rural–Urban Revitalisation in South Africa written by Mziwoxolo Sirayi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-14 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book captures ground-breaking attempts to utilise culture in territorial development and regeneration processes in the context of South Africa and our 'new normal' brought by COVID-19, the fourth industrial revolution, and climate change the world over. The importance of culture in rural-urban revitalisation has been underestimated in South Africa and the African continent at large. Despite some cultural initiatives that are still at developmental stages in big cities, such as Johannesburg, eThekwini and Cape Town, there is concern about the absence of sustainable policies and plans to support culture, creativity, and indigenous knowledge at national and municipal levels. Showcasing alternative strategies for making culture central to development, this book discusses opportunities to shift culture and indigenous knowledge from the peripheries and place them at the epicentre of sustainable development and the mainstream of cultural planning, which can then be applied in the contexts of Africa and the Global South. Governmental institutions, research councils, civil society organisations, private sector, and higher education institutions come together in a joint effort to explain the nexus between culture, economic development, rural-urban linkages, grassroots and technological innovations. Culture and Rural-Urban Revitalization in South Africa is an ideal read for those interested in rural and urban planning, cultural policy, indigenous knowledge and smart rural village model.

This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development studies in developing regions such as Southern Africa rely heavily on materials developed by Europeans with a European context. European dominance in development studies emanates from the fact that the discipline was first developed by Europeans. Some argue that this has led to distortions in theory and practice of development in Southern Africa. This book wishes to begin Africa’s expedition to develop proper material to de-Westernize while Africanizing the context of the scholarship of rural development. African Perspectives on Reshaping Rural Development is an essential reference source that repositions the context of rural development studies from the Western-centric knowledge system into an African context in order to solve African-centered problems. Featuring research on topics such as food security, poverty reduction, and community engagement, this book is ideally designed for planners, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, government officials, academicians, and students seeking clarity on theory and practice of development in Africa.

This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Re-Organisation of Rural Education, in the Cape Province, of the Union of South Africa The importance of maintaining an intelligent, cultured, healthy, and successful people on the farms can hardly, be over-emphasised. The welfare of the state depends largely upon the welfare of the farmer. Moreover: "Ultimately the food supply will govern 'with an iron, hand the extent of the world's population. .... The whole industrial and social order under modern conditions is rooted in an adequate food supply. The men who till the soil then are responsible for large human destinies. They bear the world on their shoulders." This is the day of the new farmer. The modern farmer has to be a practical scientist and a skilled manager, business man, mechanic and labourer, all in one. In addition he must remain a perpetual student if he wants to keep up-to-date. From this it is evident that the successful farmer must he a well educated man. Economically and socially rural people are at a disadvantage. The country has not shared largely in the advances made by towns and cities. Rural communities are lagging behind in the march of progress. To correct this backwardness is one task of the rural school system. Education is probably the best agency we have for social progress. Of course the rural school system alone cannot hope to solve the many economic and social problems of the country, but it may be called upon to contribute a considerable share in the solution of many of them. Rural welfare is not only one of the most important of our social problems, from a national point of view, but it also presents some of the most difficult problems of education. Download or read book The Implications of Freedom written by Wiebe Nauta and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2004 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term 'NGO' is so widely used nowadays that it has effectively lost its meaning. Therefore, in order to put back flesh on what has become a very bare skeleton, this book attempts to portray a 'real' organization that originated during the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa. By meticulously studying this land sector NGO over a prolonged period of time, much is revealed about its internal dynamics and the changing relationships with actors in the state, civil society and the market. This embedded tale (re-)introduces a historical, political and socio-economic dimension in the analysis of NGOs and shows that they are not as value-driven, autonomous, accountable and non-profit as is often claimed.
