In fact, it’s been around as long as humankind. However, lately, the will to survive has grown with intensity, and has given rise to a distorted sense of self-importance and self-indulgence. Self-interest has come to divide people and destroy a vital sense of community and civility that bonds a society. Author Lorenzo D. Leonard has studied this phenomenon and introduces an alternative way of life; the will to live. The education, development, and practice of commendable character exposes a person’s innate qualities of good. Leonard proclaims how the attainment of personal credibility and relevance becomes less of an external focus and more of an internal fulfillment through the process of character development. However, this is only the case when an individual can put aside the will to survive and embrace the will to live. Tribalism becomes less of a concern when the qualities of transparency, accountability, integrity, and community are adopted. The Rules of Engagement: The Will to Live vs. The Will to Survive is a deep dive into the very ideas that transition people into being more humane with one another. Within this literary body of work, readers will recognize the signs of a life lived authentically as well as the limitations that come with a distorted sense of power and superiority.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2Cor.10:3-4 Today, the church has neglected to teach about the spiritual realm, for fear of being judged archaic. It has denied a key Scriptural truth: that the whole world is under the control of Satan. The church has forgotten that angels were created to serve Gods people. It has also rejected the authority Christians have as ambassadors of Christ. Finally, the church has sacrificed its power to impact the world in order to gain credibility with the world. People have chosen the religion of science. Consequently, if science and Scripture disagree, even people within the church believe science to be the truth. There are three main pillars in science: observable, repeatable, and irrefutable. Any scientific fact must fulfill these pillars to be presumed true. Since the spiritual realm is invisible and not observable, science deems that this realm does not exist. When the spiritual realm manifests itself in an event, science excuses the anomaly to be something they have yet to understand. The Scriptures teach that Christians have overcome sin, Satan, and the world. Through the Holy Spirit, we can discern both the spiritual realms presence and its activities. We are not called to be demon-slayers, but we are called to engage the enemy in order to bring freedom and wholeness to people. The Bible teaches that a war exists between Satans kingdom and Gods kingdom. Every war has Rules of Engagement. The purpose of this book is to identify the spiritual realm, recognize its methods of operation, and ultimately learn the rules that enable us to effectively engage our enemy Satan.

Book excerpt: The world is becoming more complex, fraught with increasing possibilities for conflict over national rivalries, economic competition, and cultural and ideological fault lines. This clear-eyed text offers a structured and theoretically grounded way to think about the forces that animate change and the alternative futures they may create. Donald Kelley views both contemporary reality and the future we face through the perspective of four different paradigms that shape our way of thinking about the world: The nation-state paradigm, built on the assumption that the traditional Westphalian nation-state remains the key building block of the present and the future, which leads us to predict the future in terms of the nature and alignment of nation-states The economic paradigm, built on the assumption that economic factors are increasingly important, which leads us to see the future in terms of factors such as interdependence, globalization, and trade as well as the growing opposition to these developments and the prioritization of national economic needs The identity and culture paradigm, built on the distinct identities and cultures of nations and regions, which leads us to view the future in terms of conflicting culture-based communities transcending formal national or economic interests The ideology paradigm, based on a post-cold war reemergence of ideological conflict within and among nations, which leads us to view a world based on ideology-based conflict From these paradigms and their interactions, Kelley builds a series of possible alternative futures of the international system. His framework provides a unique way of looking at how and why the world is changing and the many different “futures”—some peaceful and productive, some warlike and destructive, and others simply dysfunctional—in which we might live.

Book excerpt: We, the undersigned, confined to spinsterhood through no fault of our own, hereby declare to guide our beloved niece Eliza Merriweather through the upcoming season and secure for her one, if not several, offers of marriage. We vow to consult the magnificent handbook Rules Of Engagement and follow its advice to the letter. Our mission will be difficult, for Eliza is a very independent-minded young woman and a worthy adversary. Already she has hatched a scheme of her own and persuaded Magnus MacKinnon, possessor of mesmerizing silver eyes and a shockingly sexy brogue, to play the role of attentive suitor. But with our help, it is only a matter of time before their "pretend" affections blossom into the real thing. And so we pledge to remain steadfast and to accept nothing less than complete victory: our dearest Eliza walking hand in hand down the aisle with Magnus MacKinnon. With true hearts and strong purpose, The Ladies Letitia and Viola Featherton

Book excerpt: The latest installment of the multimillion-selling Killing series is a gripping journey through the American West and the historic clashes between Native Americans and settlers. The bloody Battle of Tippecanoe was only the beginning. It’s 1811 and President James Madison has ordered the destruction of Shawnee warrior chief Tecumseh’s alliance of tribes in the Great Lakes region. But while General William Henry Harrison would win this fight, the armed conflict between Native Americans and the newly formed United States would rage on for decades. Bestselling authors Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard venture through the fraught history of our country’s founding on already occupied lands, from General Andrew Jackson’s brutal battles with the Creek Nation to President James Monroe’s epic “sea to shining sea” policy, to President Martin Van Buren’s cruel enforcement of a “treaty” that forced the Cherokee Nation out of their homelands along what would be called the Trail of Tears. O’Reilly and Dugard take readers behind the legends to reveal never-before-told historical moments in the fascinating creation story of America. This fast-paced, wild ride through the American frontier will shock readers and impart unexpected lessons that reverberate to this day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a manual for Evangelical Christians who anticipate the “second coming” of Jesus Christ and understand that they may be called upon to endure some of the hardships of the End Times. It takes the genre of survival literature up a notch by addressing the moral, ethical and doctrinal questions that Christians should consider in planning for existential challenges in an uncertain future. The author doesn’t “reinvent the wheel” on common survival issues, but covers items of interest to Believers who want to develop a survival strategy that deals with the world as they find it, yet is consistent with their faith. Among these are: Does charity really “begin at home?” Is it righteous to use lethal force in defense of yourself and others? Does subscribing to the Pre-Tribulation Rapture mean that Believers need not be concerned about coping with the End Times?

Book excerpt: The region of South East Europe (SEE), which is home to both NATO and Partnership for Peace (PfP) countries, serves as an important corridor between Europe and the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus. In recent years, however, SEE has also experienced high levels of cross-border, military and defense-related challenges in the form of migration, smuggling, terrorism, and cyber threats. Furthermore, the use of the new information environment (IE) to further extremism in SEE and elsewhere in NATO and PfP countries has had far-reaching command and control (C2) implications for the Alliance. A collaborative interdisciplinary, international and regional approach is clearly needed to adequately assess and address these hybrid threats. This book presents papers delivered at the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) event: “Senior Leadership Roundtable on Military and Defense Aspects of Border Security in South East Europe”, held in Berovo, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia* from 23-30 September 2017. The aim of this special SPS grant was to maximize opportunities for extensive dialogue and collaboration between senior regional members, and the almost 70 distinguished academic and legal experts, as well as current or former senior-level practitioners from various governments, NATO bodies, and international organization that participated. It was the first SPS event of its kind in SEE as well as the first NATO SPS grant to be co-executed by the U.S. Department of Defense via the U.S. National Defense University. Other co-organizers were the C4I and Cyber Center of Excellence at George Mason University and PfP partner institution, the General Mihailo Apostolski Military Academy – Skopje, Associate Member of the University of Goce Delčev – Stip. The book is divided into five parts: global trends, defining the problem, policy and academic solutions, national and regional case studies, and technological solutions. It will prove an invaluable source of reference for all those with an interest in the SEE region as well as cross-border hybrid threats, in general. * Turkey recognizes the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should technology be used to improve human faculties such as cognition and longevity? This thought-provoking dialogue between "transhumanism" and religion examines enhancement technologies that could radically alter the human species. "Transhumanism" or "human enhancement" is an intellectual and cultural movement that advocates the use of emerging technologies to change human traits. Although they may sound like science fiction, the possibilities suggested by transhumanism are very real, and the questions they raise have no easy answers. If these enhancements—especially major ones like the indefinite extension of healthy human life—become widely available, they would arguably have a more radical impact on humankind than any other development in history. This book comprises essays that explore transhumanism and the issues that surround it, addressing numerous fascinating questions posed by scholars of religion from various traditions. How will "immortality" or extreme longevity change our religious beliefs and practices? How might pharmaceuticals enhance spiritual experiences? Will "post-human" technologies be available to all persons, or will a superior "post-human race" arise to dominate the human species? The discussions are as intriguing as the future they suggest.

Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of My Share of the Task and Leaders, a manual for leaders looking to make their teams more adaptable, agile, and unified in the midst of change. When General Stanley McChrystal took command of the Joint Special Operations Task Force in 2004, he quickly realized that conventional military tactics were failing. Al Qaeda in Iraq was a decentralized network that could move quickly, strike ruthlessly, then seemingly vanish into the local population. The allied forces had a huge advantage in numbers, equipment, and training—but none of that seemed to matter. To defeat Al Qaeda, they would have to combine the power of the world’s mightiest military with the agility of the world’s most fearsome terrorist network. They would have to become a "team of teams"—faster, flatter, and more flexible than ever. In Team of Teams, McChrystal and his colleagues show how the challenges they faced in Iraq can be relevant to countless businesses, nonprofits, and organizations today. In periods of unprecedented crisis, leaders need practical management practices that can scale to thousands of people—and fast. By giving small groups the freedom to experiment and share what they learn across the entire organization, teams can respond more quickly, communicate more freely, and make better and faster decisions. Drawing on compelling examples—from NASA to hospital emergency rooms—Team of Teams makes the case for merging the power of a large corporation with the agility of a small team to transform any organization.
