Book Synopsis Current Directions in Radiopharmaceutical Research and Development by : Steven J. Mather
Download or read book Current Directions in Radiopharmaceutical Research and Development written by Steven J. Mather and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiophannaceutical research has recently undergone a major change in direction. In past years it has been concerned mainly with the development of perfusion tracers, the biodistribution of which reflect the regional blood flow to areas of major organs such as the heart and brain. However, a major new direction of interest now lies in the development of receptor-binding radio-tracers which can be used to perform in-vivo characterisation of diseased tissues and it is likely that much of the future research in this field will follow this direction. The difficulties in developing such tracers are considerable. The researcher must first identify a promising target for radiopharmaceutical development. High specific activity radioactive molecules must be designed and synthesised which will both bind to the target receptor with high affinity, and also have the physicochemical characteristics which will allow them to reach the target site in sufficient quantity while at the same time showing minimal uptake in non-target tissues. Thus the knowledge base required for radiophannaceutical development has now expanded beyond the limits of radiopharmaceutical chemistry to include aspects of biochemistry, molecular biology and conventional drug design. The portfolio of basic knowledge required to support current radiopharmaceutical development is changing and scientists working in this arena need to be trained in this regard. At the same time, the very latest developments in the field need to be communicated to the scientific community in order to stimulate the advancement of this exciting new direction of research.
Book Synopsis Rhenium Complexes of Some Nitrogen-containing Ligands by :
Download or read book Rhenium Complexes of Some Nitrogen-containing Ligands written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1,2-Dialkylhydrazines are cleaved at the N~ bond on reaction with oxotrichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)rhenium{V) to give alkylimido complexes of the type [Re(NR)C13(PPh3)2J. 1,2-Dibenzylhydrazine reacts anomalously to give a Re(IV) amido complex of the type Retention of the N-N bond occurs on reaction of I ,2-dioC'll::.oy111ydrazinc with oxotrichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)rhenium(V) in benzene-ethanol, and a novel chelated benzoylhydrazido complex is formed. Employment of benzene-acetone as reaction medium permits the isolation of new benzoylhydrazone complexes. The formation of chelate rings containing nitrogen is not restricted m,aroyl hydrazines, and dibenzamidc gives Cl complex analogous to the mown rhenium acetylacetonates. The chelated benzoylhydrazido complexes react rapidly with cyanides, pyridine, phosphines, halogens and carbon monoxide to give rhenium(III) benzoy.lazo complexes, containing the -N=NCOPh group. Prolonged treatment of the benzoylhydrazidc complex with ditertiary and certain monotertiary phosphincs gives a series of new rhenium(I) tctrakis(phosphine)dinitJ'ogcn complexes. The first fluorophosphine and phosphite dinitrogcn complexes have been prepared by this method. The complex [ReCl(N2)(PMe2Ph)4] has also been prepared from dinitr~gen gas by reduction of [RcC13(PMe2Pll)3] under a dinitrogen pressure of 80 atmospheres. 15N2 labelling has been --1 employed to confinn the assignment of strong infrared bands in 1900-2100cm region to v{N=N). Carbon .monoxide reacts with the chelated benzoylhydrazido or benzoy.l.a.co complexes to give bis{carbonyl)dinitrogen complexes. The N=N and C=O stretching vibrations are shown to be st.rongly coupled by 15NZ labelling, infrared bands in the 1900-2100cm- 1 and no assignments of region can be made. The rhenium(l) tetrakis(phosphine)dinitrogen complexes react with halogens and oxidising nletal salts to give the first series of paramagnetic dinitrogen complexes. Transition metal salts such as [MOCl4(Etp)2] react with [ReCl(N2)(P}.fe2Ph)4]to give dinitrogen bridged complexes with abnonnally low N=N stretching frequencies (1680-1850CJlt-1). Treatment of the bis(carbonyl)dinitrogen complexes with mono- and ditertiaryphosphincs provides a facile method for the preparation of rhenium(I) mono- and bis -carbonyl complexes.
Book Synopsis Metallotherapeutic Drugs and Metal-Based Diagnostic Agents by : Marcel Gielen
Download or read book Metallotherapeutic Drugs and Metal-Based Diagnostic Agents written by Marcel Gielen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are an astonishing number and variety of roles that metals play in contemporary medicine. This book contains information on the medicinal uses of inorganics, that is, of elements such as boron, lithium, selenium, to name a few, as well as metal-containing species. In keeping with the notion that healthy mammals rely on (bio-essential) metals for the normal functioning of approximately a third of their proteins and enzymes, a large number of drugs are metal-based and considerable effort is being devoted to developing both second- and third-generation drugs as well as generating novel metal-based drugs. While there is no doubt that there is an emphasis on 'Metallotherapeutics' throughout the volume, the use of metals in medicine is not restricted to metal-based drugs. The following are also covered: non-invasive radiopharmaceuticals Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) mineral supplements From the foregoing and, more importantly, from the contents of the various Chapters, the reader will gain an appreciation of the very real role metal-based drugs play in modern medicine and of the considerable effort being devoted to the development of novel complexes with greater efficacy as therapeutic and diagnostic agents.
Book Synopsis Transition Metal Carbyne Complexes by : F.R. Kreißl
Download or read book Transition Metal Carbyne Complexes written by F.R. Kreißl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of transition metal carbyne complexes has become a highly attractive field during the past twenty years. In recent years its application to aspects of catalysis and metathesis has gained considerable interest from inorganic as well as organic chemists. In addition, organic synthesis by means of metal carbon multiple bond reagents offers the most sophisticated technology currently available. In consideration of these developments some of Professor E. O. Fischer's former coworkers and colleagues felt obliged to orga nize this NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Transition Metal Carbyne Complexes in the Bavarian Alps. They have been encouraged by the fact that most of the distinguished scientists in the field of metal-carbon multiple bond chemistry had finally agreed to participate and to present stimulating lectures. The organizers of the workshop are deeply grateful to the Scientific Affairs Division of the NATO for the generous financial support of the meeting in Wildbad Kreuth and for the preparation of this book. They also feel indebted to acknowledge the generous support from Wacker-Chemie, BASF, Peroxid-Chemie, Hoechst and Bayer. Finally they thank the staff of the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung in Wildbad Kreuth for providing a pleasant and stimu lating atmosphere during the meeting.
