This book was released on 2017-10-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Un enfoque interdisciplinar en la formación de los maestros written by Irene Gutiérrez Ruiz and published by Narcea Ediciones. This book was released on 1994-11-04 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Israel's Holocaust and the Politics of Nationhood by : Idith Zertal
Download or read book Israel's Holocaust and the Politics of Nationhood written by Idith Zertal and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-07-11 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ghost of the Holocaust is ever present in Israel, in the lives and nightmares of the survivors and in the absence of the victims. In this compelling and disturbing analysis, Idith Zertal, a leading member of the new generation of revisionist historians in Israel, considers the ways Israel has used the memory of the Holocaust to define and legitimize its existence and politics. Drawing on a wide range of sources, the author exposes the pivotal role of the Holocaust in Israel's public sphere, in its project of nation building, its politics of power and its perception of the conflict with the Palestinians. She argues that the centrality of the Holocaust has led to a culture of death and victimhood that permeates Israel's society and self-image. For the updated paperback edition of the book, Tony Judt, the world-renowned historian and political commentator, has contributed a foreword in which he writes of Zertal's courage, the originality of her work, and the 'unforgiving honesty with which she looks at the moral condition of her own country'.

Book excerpt: "Professor Heine and Professor Kuteva look for the causes of linguistic change in cultural and economic exchanges across national and regional boundaries and in the processes that occur when speakers learn or are in close contact with another language. Testing their data and conclusions against findings from elsewhere in the world, the authors reconstruct and reveal when, how, and why common grammatical structures have evolved and continue to evolve in processes of change that will, they argue, transform the linguistic landscape of Europe." "The book is written in clear, non-technical language. It will appeal to scholars and students of language change and variation in Europe and elsewhere. It will also interest everyone concerned to understand the nature of language and language change."--BOOK JACKET.
Book Synopsis Comics and the City by : Jörn Ahrens
Download or read book Comics and the City written by Jörn Ahrens and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-03-11 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comics emerged parallel to, and in several ways intertwined with, the development of modern urban mass societies at the turn of the 20th century. On the one hand, urban topoi, self-portrayals, forms of urban cultural memories, and variant readings of the city (strolling, advertising, architecture, detective stories, mass phenomena, street life, etc.) are all incorporated into comics. On the other hand, comics have unique abilities to capture urban space and city life because of their hybrid nature, consisting of words, pictures, and sequences. These formal aspects of comics are also to be found within the cityscape itself: one can see the influence of comic book aesthetics all around us today. With chapters on the very earliest comic strips, and on artists as diverse as Alan Moore, Carl Barks, Will Eisner and Jacques Tardi, Comics and the City is an important new collection of international scholarship that will help to define the field for many years to come.

Book Synopsis Auxiliary Selection in Spanish by : Malte Rosemeyer
Download or read book Auxiliary Selection in Spanish written by Malte Rosemeyer and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-04-15 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although usage-based linguistics emphasises the need for studies of language change to take frequency effects into account, there is a lack of research that tries to systematically model frequency effects and their relation to diffusion processes in language change. This monograph offers a diachronic study of the change in Spanish perfect auxiliary selection between Old and Early Modern Spanish that led to the gradual replacement of the auxiliary ser ‘be’ with the auxiliary haber ‘have’. It analyses this process in terms of the interaction between gradience, gradualness, and the conserving effects of frequency and persistence in language change. The study contributes to the theory and methodology of diachronic linguistics, additionally offering insights on how to explain synchronic grammatical variation both within a language and between languages. The book is of interest to the fields of Spanish and Romance linguistics, syntax, as well as historical and variationist linguistics.
