Ce travail tente de mettre en relation les représentations de l'écrit d'adultes apprentis lecteurs et les stratégies cognitives qu'ils mobilisent en situation de lecture-écriture. Les représentations de l'écrit sont inscrites dans un parcours de vie tel qu'il est rapporté lors d'un entretien semi-dirigé et les stratégies cognitives sont recueillies lors de l'observation d'une situation de lecture-écriture consistant à réaliser un projet d'écriture en allant chercher les mots nécessaires dans un texte de référence. L'analyse des données recueillies permet de mettre en évidence 4 scénarios forts, plus ou moins actifs et plus ou moins ambivalents, organisés autour de l'attitude par rapport au rite de passage et mettant en scène représentations sociales et socio-cognitives de l'écrit et stratégies cognitives. Ces scénarios s'inscrivent en tension entre un pôle social (rite de passage) et individuel (stratégie identitaire).
