Book Synopsis Spray-dried Blood Cells as a Partial Replacement for Fish Meal in Diets for Rainbow Trout by : John Alan Johnson
Download or read book Spray-dried Blood Cells as a Partial Replacement for Fish Meal in Diets for Rainbow Trout written by John Alan Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The iron content of the diet did not affect peroxide values of the feed, which remained low throughout the 12 weeks. These findings indicate that spray-dried blood cells (SBC) are suitable for partial replacement of fish meal in rainbow trout diets. Because of its higher protein content, a 8.75% substitution level of SBC replaced 27.5% of the fish meal. Because the phosphorus content of SBC is only 0.33% compared with 1.67% in herring meal, the P content of the diet was reduced 29.3%. The higher levels of iron in the diet containing SBC did not have any adverse affect on trout performance or on oxidation of the lipids in the feed.
Book Synopsis Effect of Bioactive Components in Low Fish Meal Diet on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss) by : Marine Rolland
Download or read book Effect of Bioactive Components in Low Fish Meal Diet on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss) written by Marine Rolland and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rainbow trout were fed 9 weeks with 9 diets (2 replicates for each diet) design to study the effect of taurine and other related bioactive components included in low fish meal recipe on performances, nutrient digestibilities and taurine content in the fish. The SGR and FCR were not affected by the different recipes or components tested. Taurine content in the feed appear to have positive correlation with taurine body level without affecting lipid digestibility. Soybean meal was found to affect protein and carbohydrates digestibilities and to have a possible negative effect on bile salts synthesis and reabsorption. Taurocholate results needed some more analysis before conclude any statement. Results confirm that rainbow trout are able to synthesise taurine from cystine and moreover that the synthesis from the cystine might be preferred as the taurine uptake from the feed when the cystine level in the diet is high.

Book Synopsis Nutrition and Feeding of Rainbow Trout by : J. W. Hilton
Download or read book Nutrition and Feeding of Rainbow Trout written by J. W. Hilton and published by Government of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans, Scientific Information and Publications Branch. This book was released on 1981 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special publication is designed to describe the basic elements of salmonid nutrition. Described are the requirements and functions of nutrients. The feed formulation for salmonids is described, together with the quality control parameters for the most important ingredients in salmonid diets. All fish feeds must be processed to produce feed particles of appropriate size for fish of different ages and sizes. The digestibility and balance of nutrients assumes greater importance in diets for fish because of the importance of preventing eutrophication and increasing the biological oxygen demand in the fish pond. Guides have been established indicating the amount of feed to give daily to fish of various sizes and water temperatures. Fish are poikilotherms whose body temperature, metabolic rate and feeding activity varies with the ambient water temperature. Feeding rates and growth rates are reduced as the temperature is decreased from 15 to 4 C.

Book Synopsis Effects of Fish Meal Replacement and Selective Breeding on Rainbow Trout Performance Characteristics by : G. Scott Snyder
Download or read book Effects of Fish Meal Replacement and Selective Breeding on Rainbow Trout Performance Characteristics written by G. Scott Snyder and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A twelve-week feeding study was conducted to determine differences in rainbow trout growth through two generations of selection for increased weight gain utilizing a plant-based feed to provide selection pressure. Fish fed a fish meal control diet exhibited faster growth, lower feed consumption and lower feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to fish fed the plant meal diet. The increased weight gain after two generations of selection correlated with muscle expression of the IGF-1 , Foxo-1 and Pax-7 genes.
Book Synopsis The Effect of Dietary Nucleotide Supplementation on Growth and Feed Efficiency of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss) Fed Fish Meal-Free and Animal Protein-Free Diets by : Bing Liu
Download or read book The Effect of Dietary Nucleotide Supplementation on Growth and Feed Efficiency of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss) Fed Fish Meal-Free and Animal Protein-Free Diets written by Bing Liu and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effects of dietary nucleotide supplementation on growth and feed efficiency in rainbow trout (initial weight = 25 g/fish) were conducted in a 70-day growth trial. One control diet and two basal diets (25%, 5% and 0% fish meal, respectively) were formulated using high levels of highly digestible plant protein ingredients to meet all the known nutrient requirements of rainbow trout. Two basal diets were supplemented with four increasing levels (0, 8, 16 and 24 ppm, respectively) of nucleotides using a commercial supplement (Laltide®, Lallemand Inc. Qc, Canada). Nucleotide supplementation levels significantly (p

Book Synopsis Sustainable Alternatives to Fish Meal and Fish Oil in Fish Nutrition by : Vasileios Karalazos
Download or read book Sustainable Alternatives to Fish Meal and Fish Oil in Fish Nutrition written by Vasileios Karalazos and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, fish meal (FM) and fish oil (FO) have been used extensively in aquafeeds, mainly due to their excellent nutritional properties. However, various reasons dictate the use of sustainable alternatives and the reduction of the dependence on these commodities in fish feeds. Hence, the aim of the present thesis was to investigate the effects of the replacement of FM and FO with two vegetable oils (VO) and an oilseed meal on the growth performance, feed utilization, nutrient and fatty acids (FA) digestibility and tissue FA composition and metabolism in three commercially important European fish species. Specifically, in Experiment I crude palm oil (PO) was used to replace FO in diets for rainbow trout. In Experiments II and III FO was replaced with rapeseed oil (RO) in diets for Atlantic salmon at various dietary protein/lipid levels aiming also at further reductions of FM by using low protein (high lipid) diet formulations. In Experiments II and III the fish were reared at low and high water temperatures, respectively, in order to elucidate, also, the potential effects of temperature. Lastly, the effects of the replacement of FM with full fat soya meal (FFS) in Atlantic cod were investigated in Experiment IV. The results of the present thesis showed no negative effects on growth performance and feed utilization in rainbow trout when FO was replaced with PO. The dietary inclusion of RO improved the growth of Atlantic salmon, possibly, due to changes in the nutrient and FA digestibilities and FA catabolism while, the growth and feed utilization were unaffected by the dietary protein/lipid level. However, the growth of Atlantic cod was affected negatively by the replacement of FM with FFS. The proximate composition of the fish whole body was in most cases unaffected by dietary treatments. The changes in dietary formulations affected the dietary FA compositions and resulted in significant changes in the fish tissue FA compositions. It was clearly shown that the fish tissue total lipid FA composition reflects the FA composition of the diet, although specific FA were selectively utilized or retained in the tissues by the fish. These may have serious implications not only for fish metabolism and growth but also for the quality of the final product, especially in terms of possible reductions of n-3 HUFA.
