T here seems to be no reason, however, why the method can not be applied to hollow-sunk tubes. It has been indicated by certain British investigators that if high internal stresses are to be induced in tubes, it is preferable to draw them by hollow sinking. So far as is known, however, no data have been pre sented as to the amount of stress in tubes drawn either with an internal supporting mandrel or hollow sunk. Before discussing the method developed in this investigation for the measurement of stress, it is of importance first to consider the kind and character of the stresses under discussion.
