Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pesticide Interactions in Crop Production: Beneficial and Deleterious Effects evaluates the effects of pesticides on plants by exploring the physical, chemical, biological, and ecological interactions of pesticides that influence a crop. The effects of pesticides on the environment and on the crop pests themselves are considered as well. Specific topics addressed include iatrogenic responses, the fate of pesticides applied to cereals under field conditions, the persistance of pesticides on target crops, the effect of pesticides on soil symbionts, and the role of ecological agriculture on conventional and organic cropping systems. Pesticide Interactions in Crop Production: Beneficial and Deleterious Effects will be an important volume for agriculturalists, phytologists, mycologists, soil biologists, plant pathologists, tropical ecologists, arboriculturalists, and other researchers interested in the effects of pesticides on crops and soil.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book are shown the results of the atrazine behavior in Argentinean, conducted between 2001 and 2006. In the first work it was studied the behavior of atrazine in surface soils, and evaluated the effect of land use and how it affects the ability of soil to remove residual atrazine. In the second study it was evaluated two soil profiles characteristic of the province of Cordoba, and in each horizon, the effect of soil properties on the retention and degradation of atrazine mineralization was evaluated. The third study aimed to recognize the distribution along the profile of the soil's ability to mineralize atrazine. The soil sterilization was carried out to quantify chemical and biological degradation of atrazine. In the fourth and fifth paper it was analyzed different strategies of winter weed control and how weed management influenced on the atrazine persistence. In the sixth and final paper it is presented an original proposal to identify soils with rapid mineralization capacity of atrazine, based in corn crop history where atrazine is used. As a tool to reconstruct the history of the lot was used satellite images.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is fabricated exclusively for M.Sc. (Agri.) and Ph.D. degree programmes in Plant Pathology, for all the universities of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Sericulture and the related streams of Botany. ‘Chemicals in Plant Disease Management’ is a compulsory subject in several degree programmes. The present book solely caters to the students of Plant Pathology, as it covers a wide range of topics related to chemicals used to control plant diseases, viz., Agrochemicals used in plant disease management: Current scenario; History and development of agrochemicals; Formulations, application and phytotoxicity of agrochemicals; Classification and modes of action of agrochemicals; Registration and regulation of agrochemicals; Safe handling and use of agrochemicals; Compatibility and persistence of agrochemicals; Pollution and hazards by agrochemicals; and New generation fungicides. Special Features: There has been a gap of 30 years since the publication of a book on the subject addressed here, therefore, this book makes a novel appearance on Agrochemicals in recent times. Presently, there is no book available in the market covering the whole syllabus prescribed by the ICAR on Agrochemicals. To meet this requirement the book is designed to cover the entire syllabus prescribed by the ICAR for the courses in P.G. programmes on Plant Pathology. Recent developments in chemicals used in Plant Disease Management have been added, updated, and presented in a detailed manner. Serviceable Tables, Illustration, Figures, and Data are provided for an effective understanding, of both the students and the faculty. Appendices on ‘Read the Label’ and ‘Preparation of spray volume’ are provided. Detailed Glossary of key words used, has been given for important and frequently occurring topics. Exhaustive ‘Bibliography’ for further reading is also provisioned. Since the book is first of its kind, it is highly recommended for the students, faculty, policy makers, private and government pesticide industries, NGO’s, State Government Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, and Sericulture. Apart from the students appearing for U.G. /P.G. Entrance Examinations in various Universities, several competitive examinations such as ARS, NET, SRF, JRF, IAS, KAS, progressive farmers and planters, and Seed companies, are also expected to be benefited by the book.

Book excerpt: The object of this project was to develop a soil sorption model for hexahydro-1,3,5trinitro-1 3,5-triazine (RDX) and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) based on physical-chemical properties of soils in the absence of biotic and abiotic transformation/degradation of the solutes. This was accomplished by conducting a series of batch and column studies with TNT and RDX on a variety of sterilized soils. Abiotic transformation of TNT to several amino compounds, of which 2 amino-4,6-dinitrotoluene was the most common, necessitated direct analysis of the solute in the aqueous phase and extraction/analysis of the sorbed material to be performed on all batch studies to allow for mass balance calculations. RDX was poorly sorbed to all soils, and steady-state conditions were obtained within 6 h. Linear sorption coefficients (Kd) were generally

Among the topics of the 14 papers are diazinon degradation and dissipation in the root zone, the reductive dechlorination of hexachlorobenzene in wetland soils, and the utility of sorption and degradation parameters from the literature for site-specific pesticide impact assessments.
