Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of well-researched essays assesses the uses and misuses of history 25 years after the collapse of Soviet hegemony in Eastern Europe. As opposed to the revival of national histories that seemed to be the prevailing historiographical approach of the 1990s, the last decade has seen a particular set of narratives equating Nazism and Communism. This provides opportunities to exonerate wartime collaboration, casting the nation as victim even when its government was allied with Germany. While the Jewish Holocaust is acknowledged, its meaning and significance are obfuscated. In their comparative analysis the authors are also interested in new practices of ?Europeanness?. Therefore their presentations of Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Slovenian post-communist memory politics move beyond the common national myths in order to provide a new insight into transnational interactions and exchanges in Europe in general. The juxtaposition of these politics, the processes in other parts of Europe, the modes of remembering shaped by displacement and the transnational enable a close encounter with the divergences and assess the potential of the formation of common, European memory practices. ÿ

Book excerpt: The Red Dragons of the 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion was never relieved from combat duty. For 1007 consecutive days the battalion ..".moved along the entire width of the battle line, emplacing where the fighting was heaviest, inflicting tremendous casualties...and redeploying when a relative lull occurred to yet another sector where the savage battle flared anew." Thus read one of the battalion's two Presidential Unit Citations. The story of this battalion has never been documented. Based on personal interviews and original, long-forgotten and unpublished records, Red Dragons puts the reader in the trenches on Korean mountainsides in every kind of weather and every kind of action. To left and right the reader finds soldiers who fought the "Forgotten War" with little reward and by their courage and sacrifice held the line behind which America gathered strength for its ultimate victory in half a century of Cold War. Walter J. Eldredge is a 1968 graduate of MIT and retired from ExxonMobil Corporation. Walt is an experienced backpacker and sailor. He and his wife Peggy live in Baton Rouge, LA where they are active volunteers with many community organizations and participating in the lives of their five adult children. Walt's father was a mortar company commander with the red Dragons. Walt says of his work with veterans, "I have shared in the memories of ordinary men who drove themselves to extraordinary limits. I have been able to make those memories available to their families and friends who often have no idea of what these men achieved or what they endured. Many have told me that my work 'broke the ice' for discussions that otherwise would not have taken place. Many of my closest friends are men who fought alongside my father before I was born."

Now he returns (with Jim DeFelice) to start a new classic series for our era, Larry Bond’s Red Dragon Rising, which imagines the globe torn apart by climate change and its economic and geopolitical fallout. Shadows of War Rapid climate change leads to mass riots in China, and a new communist premier seeks to relieve pressure by marching on traditional Chinese enemies in Southeast Asia. Desperately coping with its own problems, the United States wants to avoid nuclear war at all costs--but ultimately must fight to preserve world peace. Edge of War CIA officer Mara Duncan faces her most grueling assignment yet: get scientist Josh MacArthur and a seven-year-old witness to Chinese atrocities in Vietnam out of the country safely. With a relentless Chinese monk turned commando and the entire Chinese secret service in Vietnam at their back, it's not going to be easy. Shock of War Under secret orders from the President, U.S. Army Major Zeus Murphy sabotages a Chinese invasion fleet on the eve of its assault against Vietnam. But after Murphy and fellow officer Win Christian are trapped behind enemy lines, Christian's erratic behavior gives them away. The pair shoot their way out of a Chinese airport terminal, hijack a bus, then barely escape two truckloads of soldiers before disappearing into the night. Blood of War As depression and drought wrack China, the country's new premier has launched a deadly war with Vietnam. The assault has left the world on the precipice of disaster....U.S. Army Major Zeus Murphy disobeys his commander and plunges headlong into the conflict, leading the Vietnamese in a covert attack against the Chinese army massing on the border. If the gambit fails, China will roll over Vietnam—and Zeus will lose the only woman he has ever loved, kept prisoner in a secret base north of Hanoi. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Military policeman, Sergeant Joe Armandi was only nineteen, but he was wise and experienced beyond his years. His classroom was the poor and tough neighborhood where he was born and raised. One lesson he had learned was simple but true: Evil to various degrees lives in everyone who walks on the planet, whether it is manifested by a simple hurtful word, the commission of a crime, a greedy thirst for some object, or murder. Each individual since the beginning of time has experienced this truth. Trying to find himself after the tragic and untimely death of Joyce, his one and only love, which put an end to his life's dream, Joe found himself in South Korea as an undercover agent, trying to discover the traitorous American soldier selling vital shipping information to hijackers the Red Dragons, the largest, most violent, and extremely successful criminals in South Korea. Using his talents and experience as a superior prizefighter, Joe infiltrated the gang whose leader, Won Pak, owned an illegal fighting arena. Joe made a lot of money for Pak and thus was cautiously accepted by him. After months of investigation, Joe still hadn't exposed the American traitor, but he had some strong possibilities. Joe knew everyone dies, and since Joyce died, he was ready for anything and feared nothing. Many attempts were made to seriously damage Joe's body, even torture, and assassination was also tried more than once. All that mayhem ended after Joe stole a million-dollar treasure that everyone wanted.

The realms of Agon are betrayed, as the Kesh wage war upon them, and rouse the anger of their ancient nemesis, the chromatic dragons. With Dor Akun approaching, the leaders of Agon's civilized realms must band together in the hope of staving off certain extinction. Meanwhile, the truths of the ancients becomes clear, and the young barbarian chieftain, Azor Koll, must decide whether to lead his people in the service of the great beasts or risk destruction from friend and foe alike. Azor Koll soon discovers that, in the world of Claire-Agon, when dealing with a Red Dragon, sometimes blood is thicker than water.

Book excerpt: 2022 Facsimile Edition - An invaluable collector’s item. Elsewhen Press are pleased to be able to produce this facsimile of the 1999 illustrated, limited edition privately published by the author but since unobtainable. “A must-have for historians, students, and those interested in the OWG or indeed protecting modern Britain.” – Sally Spender “Dr Seacastle’s ... Bestiary was the product of a great deal of solid research and investigation. It is a short volume ... but there is much in the book that is precise. Not only that, she makes several rather inciteful remarks about actions taken by Her Majesty’s Office of the Witchfinder General over the decades.” – Simon Kewin, author and OWG scholar Cover design: Alison Buck
