This book was released on 1996 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lectures concentrate on fundamentals of the modern theory of linear elliptic and parabolic equations in H older spaces. Krylov shows that this theory - including some issues of the theory of nonlinear equations - is based on some general and extremely powerful ideas and some simple computations. The main object of study is the first boundary-value problems for elliptic and parabolic equations, with some guidelines concerning other boundary-value problems such as the Neumann or oblique derivative problems or problems involving higher-order elliptic operators acting on the boundary. Numerical approximations are also discussed. This book, containing 200 exercises, aims to provide a good understanding of what kind of results are available and what kinds of techniques are used to obtain them.

Book excerpt: This book unifies the different approaches in studying elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations with discontinuous coefficients. To the enlarging market of researchers in applied sciences, mathematics and physics, it gives concrete answers to questions suggested by non-linear models. Providing an up-to date survey on the results concerning elliptic and parabolic operators on a high level, the authors serve the reader in doing further research. Being themselves active researchers in the field, the authors describe both on the level of good examples and precise analysis, the crucial role played by such requirements on the coefficients as the Cordes condition, Campanato's nearness condition, and vanishing mean oscillation condition. They present the newest results on the basic boundary value problems for operators with VMO coefficients and non-linear operators with discontinuous coefficients and state a lot of open problems in the field.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Porous media, and especially phenomena of transport in such materials, are an impor1ant field of interest for geologists, hydrogeologists, researchers in soil and fluid mechanics, petroleum and chemical engineers, physicists and scientists in many other disciplines. The development of better numerical simulation techniques in combination with the enormous expansion of computer tools, have enabled numerical simulation of transport phenomena (mass of phases and components, energy etc. ) in porous domains of interest. Before any practical application of the results of such simulations can be used, it is essential that the simulation models have been proven to be valid. In order to establish the greatest possible coherence between the models and the physical reality, frequent interaction between numericians, mathematicians and the previously quoted researchers, is necessary. Once this coherence is established, the numerical simulations could be used to predict various phenomena such as water management, propagation of pollutants etc. These simulations could be, in many cases, the only financially acceptable tool to carry out an investigation. Current studies within various fields of applications include not only physical comprehension aspects of flow and energy or solute transport in saturated or unsaturated media but also numerical aspects in deriving strong complex equations. Among the various fields of applications generally two types of problems can be observed. Those associated with the pollution of the environment and those linked to water management. The former are essentially a problem in industrialized countries, the latter are a major source of concern in North-Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-contained and concise, this Research Note provides a basis to study unsteady flow in saturated porous media. It provides for the development of algorithms that examine three-dimensional flows subject to complicated boundary conditions that are a natural consequence of flow in geological systems. A new way to understand the flow in porous media is presented. The authors pay attention to computational considerations, and options for developing codes are addressed. The note consists of five chapters: the first is introductory; the second and third are devoted to showing how one arrives at the solutions of interest; the fourth chapter presents various reformulations to aid computations and presents a few illustrative examples; the fifth chapter is a natural progression of the first four chapters to more complicated visualizations of flow in porous media.

Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of selected contributions on recent results in nonlinear partial differential equations from participants to an international conference held in Fes, Morocco in 1994. The emphasis is on nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems, but there are also papers deveoted to related areas such as monotone operator theory, calculus of variations, Hamiltonian systems and periodic solutions. Some of the papers are exhaustive surveys, while others contain new results, published here for the first time. This book will be of particular interest to graduate or postgraduate students as well as to specialists in these areas.
