Download or read book Gamma-Ray Bursts written by Gilbert Vedrenne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-20 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their discovery was first announced in 1973, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been among the most fascination objects in the universe. While the initial mystery has gone, the fascination continues, sustained by the close connection linking GRBs with some of the most fundamental topics in modern astrophysics and cosmology. Both authors have been active in GRB observations for over two decades and have produced an outstanding account on both the history and the perspectives of GRB research.
Book Synopsis Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty by : Stefano Gumina
Download or read book Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty written by Stefano Gumina and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook fully investigates reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), presenting all the recent advances in the field to enable shoulder surgeons to treat patients with complex conditions, such as rotator cuff tears and instability, failed surgery and combined arthritis, or proximal humerus neoplasia. Reverse shoulder arthroplasty is becoming increasingly common because conventional total shoulder replacement may cause pain, loss of strength, simple or complex disabilities as well as limited motion, reducing general quality of life. The goal of a reverse prosthesis is to restore a painless, biomechanically valid joint. Drawing on the results of recent studies, the book covers all relevant aspects of RSA, including basic science, pathogenesis, clinical and instrumental evaluation, surgical techniques and complication management, helping readers to better understand when and how reverse shoulder arthroplasty should be implanted and what to do in cases of poor results. Written by leading shoulder specialists, the book provides surgeons and rehabilitation specialists, as well as residents and shoulder fellows, with a valuable, state-of-the-art guide for clinical practice.

Book Synopsis Reciprocity, Spatial Mapping and Time Reversal in Electromagnetics by : C. Altman

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The choice of topics in this book may seem somewhat arbitrary, even though we have attempted to organize them in a logical structure. The contents reflect the path of 'search and discovery' followed by us, on and off, for the in fact last twenty years. In the winter of 1970-71 one of the authors (C. A. ), on sah baticalleave with L. R. O. Storey's research team at the Groupe de Recherches Ionospheriques at Saint-Maur in France, had been finding almost exact symme tries in the computed reflection and transmission matrices for plane-stratified magnetoplasmas when symmetrically related directions of incidence were com pared. At the suggestion of the other author (K. S. , also on leave at the same institute), the complex conjugate wave fields, used to construct the eigenmode amplitudes via the mean Poynting flux densities, were replaced by the adjoint wave fields that would propagate in a medium with transposed constitutve tensors, et voila, a scattering theorem-'reciprocity in k-space'-was found in the computer output. To prove the result analytically one had to investigate the properties of the adjoint Maxwell system, and the two independent proofs that followed, in 1975 and 1979, proceeded respectively via the matrizant method and the thin-layer scattering-matrix method for solving the scattering problem, according to the personal preferences of each of the authors. The proof given in Chap. 2 of this book, based on the hindsight provided by our later results, is simpler and much more concise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in computer graphics have largely involved the following: Integration of computer graphics and image analysis through computer data structure; integration of CAD/CAM as computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) through the design and simulation of manufacturing processes using computer graphics; progress in basic research on the modeling of complex and mathematical graphic objects, such as computational geometry, graphic data bases, hierarchical windows, and texture; use of computer graphics as an improved human interface to present information visually and multidimensionally; and advancement of industrial technology and computer art based on developments in the areas listed above. These trends are strongly reflected in the contents of the present volume either as papers dealing with one particular aspect of research or as multifaceted studies involving several different areas. The proceedings comprise thirty selected, previously unpublished original papers presented in nine chapters.

Book Synopsis The Physics of Music and Color by : Leon Gunther
Download or read book The Physics of Music and Color written by Leon Gunther and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Physics of Music and Color deals with two subjects, music and color - sound and light in the physically objective sense - in a single volume. The basic underlying physical principles of the two subjects overlap greatly: both music and color are manifestations of wave phenomena, and commonalities exist as to the production, transmission, and detection of sound and light. This book aids readers in studying both subjects, which involve nearly the entire gamut of the fundamental laws of classical as well as modern physics. Where traditional introductory physics and courses are styled so that the basic principles are introduced first and are then applied wherever possible, this book is based on a motivational approach: it introduces a subject by demonstrating a set of related phenomena, challenging readers by calling for a physical basis for what is observed. The Physics of Music and Color is written at level suitable for college students without any scientific background, requiring only simple algebra and a passing familiarity with trigonometry. It contains numerous problems at the end of each chapter that help the reader to fully grasp the subject.

Book Synopsis Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty by : Mark Frankle
Download or read book Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty written by Mark Frankle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing exclusively on reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) techniques and devices, this plentifully illustrated text covers all aspects of this important and innovative treatment for shoulder pain and dysfunction. The book begins with a history of RSA followed by a thorough overview of the basic science and biomechanics of the shoulder. Indications for and clinical applications of RSA in a number of surgical interventions are then described, including the revision of failed shoulder arthroplasty, setting in cases of glenoid and humeral bone loss and rotator cuff tears. A whole section is then dedicated to various commercial devices with descriptive expert analysis of the design and implementation of each. An examination of the current economic value of RSA, including cost effectiveness and expected cost outcomes, comprises the final section. Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty can therefore be read either from start to finish, allowing orthopedic surgeons to appreciate the various perspectives offered, or by selecting specific topics of interest much like a “how-to manual” of either a particular device design or the treatment of a specific pathology.
