Book excerpt: "THE AFTERMATH" to Rampage 1982 highlights the investigation of the retribution murders of three of the convicted 1982 felons who had served their thirty years of incarceration and were released in 2012. On Memorial Day, 2013 their mutilated bodies were discovered artfully nailed to three Oak trees in the parking lot of what is now, the Old Westbury Diner, the very site of their long forgotten carnage, deliberately, on the thirty first anniversary of that barbaric 1982 night. Driven by duty and ego, Detective Lieutenant Patricia McAvoy uses all of the assets and experience of her Homicide Squad South veterans to solve this macabre triple murder. She zeros in on the most damaged victims of the 1982 mayhem who were either robbed, raped, sodomized, shot, seriously assaulted or mentally affected. Disregarding a lack of public sympathy for the murdered trio, she relentlessly builds the case against her leading suspects and ultimately prompts the Nassau County District Attorney to indict the "sadistic six" she is convinced are guilty of the murders. As the investigation proceeds, salient facts are unearthed that ensure the murder trial is not a "slam dunk." Corkscrew twists and turns abundantly abound, leading to a bizarre finale which begs the question as to who really were the avengers of the 1982 savage crime spree?

Download or read book COLD CASE SQUAD written by John F. Nolan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detective Sergeant Patricia (Patti Mac) McAvoy’s career was turned upside down when an undocumented Mexican teen-aged boy was found strangled, floating in a 55 gallon drum in South Oyster Bay, Long Island. Inspection revealed he was carrying rosary beads and wearing a diaper. Simultaneously, McAvoy was transferred to Nassau County, NY, Homicide Squad South as a public relations ploy. Following a hostile reception from woman hating Detective Captain Peter J. Brennan, Patti was handed a cold case squad and exiled to an attic stacked floor to ceiling with cold cases. Brennan saddled Patti with four detectives, culled from his bad boy list, turning her assignment into a set up for failure. Outwitting Brennan by using guile and ingenuity, Patti led her team to a daring manslaughter arrest. Taking note of Patti’s leadership, a detective confided about his case of a murdered boy in a floating barrel, inexplicably removed from the active murder list and placed in the dead file as a special investigation. Patti attempted to re-open the case and ran into the infamous police “Blue Wall of Silence.” Patti browbeat Brennan into releasing the case. Breaching the “Wall,” cold case squad yielded two “persons of interest,” a prosperous attorney and a Roman Catholic Monsignor who was the Police Commissioner’s twin brother. Patti discovered the meaning of the ‘loneliness of command’ as she descended into the squalid world of sexism, racism, corruption and worst of all, pedophilia. The gruesome trail took her to the pillars of society. Patti found herself in the crosshairs of vile violent men, who would love to put a bullet between her eyes. The investigation exposed a massive political cover-up leading to the top of the food chain and ripped open a sleepy suburban county with the arrests of a powerful figure and Brennan.

Book Synopsis Died Twice Trilogy by : Bernard D. Shapiro
Download or read book Died Twice Trilogy written by Bernard D. Shapiro and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After self publishing “Died Twice” in 2012 and l’epilogue in 2018, I decided in 2021, as I turned eighty five, to conclude the autobiographical trilogy with my final compilation of quasi articulate unauthorized ramblings. In this, the final edition of my soap opera life story, there is a good mix of over forty old and new tales. I spend a good deal of time explaining the PACE story that transpired over twenty five years ago, and my latest experiences via the PEARL restaurant vignette that basically started in late 2018. For historical purposes I have also included a word by word copy of the lengthy memorialized official factual record of the HOAX at the Aqua that gave rise to the novel Russian Revenge...The Hoax at the Aqua,” which in 2017, I co-authored with my since deceased writing partner, John Nolan. I have also briefly described the Paul Shapiro story as we have been friends now for sixty eight years. As the Corona virus pandemic engulfed us all, I also relate my personal uplifting experience with the extended quarantine and intermittent lock down and appropriate social distancing. Thankfully these latest stories are all lighter and happier than the original “Died Twice,” as they are basically devoid of any additional personal tragedies or ultra sad experiences. Once again, I hope my children, grand children and some friends will enjoy a number of the stories that they may have personally experienced with me over the years.

Book Synopsis The Crisis of School Violence by : Marianna King
Download or read book The Crisis of School Violence written by Marianna King and published by MSU Press. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crisis of School Violence is the only interdisciplinary book about school violence. It presents a broad and in-depth approach to the key questions about why bullying continues at an unprecedentedly high rate and why rampage school shootings continue to shock the nation. Based on extensive research, The Crisis of School Violence investigates human nature and its relation to aggressive behavior, with a special focus on the culture of violence that predicates school violence (including rampage shootings) and perpetuates industries that profit from violence. Marianna King presents the considerable psychological and neuroscientific research that investigates the effects of violent entertainment media on the brain and, subsequently, on behavior, which clearly reveals a causal connection between exposure to violent electronic entertainment media—especially violent video games—and increased aggressive and violent behavior. The book also reveals a more specific connection between exposure to violent video games and rampage school shootings. Ultimately this volume is a call to action that includes recommendations for parents, teachers, decision makers, and citizens alike.
