Book excerpt: "THE AFTERMATH" to Rampage 1982 highlights the investigation of the retribution murders of three of the convicted 1982 felons who had served their thirty years of incarceration and were released in 2012. On Memorial Day, 2013 their mutilated bodies were discovered artfully nailed to three Oak trees in the parking lot of what is now, the Old Westbury Diner, the very site of their long forgotten carnage, deliberately, on the thirty first anniversary of that barbaric 1982 night. Driven by duty and ego, Detective Lieutenant Patricia McAvoy uses all of the assets and experience of her Homicide Squad South veterans to solve this macabre triple murder. She zeros in on the most damaged victims of the 1982 mayhem who were either robbed, raped, sodomized, shot, seriously assaulted or mentally affected. Disregarding a lack of public sympathy for the murdered trio, she relentlessly builds the case against her leading suspects and ultimately prompts the Nassau County District Attorney to indict the "sadistic six" she is convinced are guilty of the murders. As the investigation proceeds, salient facts are unearthed that ensure the murder trial is not a "slam dunk." Corkscrew twists and turns abundantly abound, leading to a bizarre finale which begs the question as to who really were the avengers of the 1982 savage crime spree?

Corkscrew twists and turns abundantly abound, leading to a bizarre finale which begs the question as to who really were the avengers of the 1982 savage crime spree? ABOUT THE AUTHORS B. D. Renard, ( a pseudonym) a native New Yorker, Army veteran, and retired businessman, has a personal and emotional interest in the story, as his daughter, home from college, began her first night as the hostess in what was then the Sea Crest Diner on that fateful evening in May of 1982. Fortunately, she was not one of the physically abused, but like all victims, had the trauma indelibly branded into her psyche. A widower, Renard currently resides in Long Beach NY. The "AFTERMATH" is his sixth writing endeavor. J.F. Nolan is also a native New Yorker. Following service in the US Marine Corps, he served in the Nassau County, NY, Police Department for twenty-four years, with fourteen years as a supervisor in the Detective Division. Nolan completed his last nine years in the Homicide Squad. Promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives, Nolan became the Homicide Squad Commander where he oversaw several hundred murder investigations. He also resides on Long Island with his wife, Gundie. The Rampage Sequel is his 6th novel. Together, the co-authors have produced a novel, based on the true story, but significantly fictionalized, to allow the reader to experience the driving needs of six victims of that night to wreak vengeance on the perpetrators. Epilogue Collaborating for the third time, the co-authors have produced a novel, based on a true story...the 1982 Rampage by five predators who were finally brought to justice. In "THE AFTERMATH...2013-2015," employing their fictional character, ADA Eugene Dempsey, they put forth their case for updating the legal meaning of JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE.

Book excerpt: Rampage 1982 is rooted in the true story of Long Island's most infamous crime spree. On Friday night, Memorial Day weekend 1982, five Brooklyn thugs, called the Belmont Avenue Boys, went to "get paid" on Long Island or as they called it, Babylonia, the biblical land of milk and honey. Their credo - if you want something, just take it - was demonstrated by the night's work of random shootings, rapes, sodomies, pistol whippings, robberies, and terrorism by forcing diner patrons to "undress and have sex with the person next to you." In an ultimate act of vulgarity, the Boys then urinated on several of the victims. Following their arrests and sentences of 3,000 years in prison, the outraged public learned of a defect in NY State law trimming the sentences to thirty years. True crime merges with fiction......As news of the Boys release circulates thirty years later, in 2012, a product of one of the rapes discovers the truth of his conception, and vows to avenge his mother's degradation. Concocting a plan to snuff out the lives of the Boys, including his rapacious father, he recruits several victims of that night of horror, and he lures the Boys to a secluded warehouse, where appropriate justice is finally served. ABOUT THE AUTHORS J. F. Nolan is a native New Yorker, Following enlistment in the US Marine Corps, he served in the Nassau County, NY, Police Department for twenty-four years, with fourteen years as a supervisor in the Detective Division. Nolan completed his last nine years in the Homicide Squad. Promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives, Nolan became the Homicide Commander where he oversaw management of several hundred murder investigations. He resides on Long Island with his wife, Gundie. Renard, also a native New Yorker, Army veteran, and retired businessman, has a personal and emotional interest in the story, as his daughter, home from college, began her first night as the hostess in the Seacrest Diner on that fateful evening back in May of 1982. Fortunately, she was not one of the physically abused, but like all of the other victims of that evening, had the trauma indelibly branded into her psyche. A recent widower, Renard, too, currently resides on Long Island. Together, the co-authors have produced a novel, based on the true story, but significantly fictionalized, to allow the reader to experience the driving needs of six victims of that night to wreak vengeance on the perpetrators.

Book excerpt: The truck's role in American society changed dramatically from the 1960s through the 1980s, with the rise of off-roaders, the van craze of the 1970s and minivan revolution of the 1980s, the popularization of the SUV as family car and the diversification of the pickup truck into multiple forms and sizes. This comprehensive reference book follows the form of the author's popular volumes on American cars. For each year, it provides an industry overview and, for each manufacturer, an update on new models and other news, followed by a wealth of data: available powertrains, popular options, paint colors and more. Finally, each truck is detailed fully with specifications and measurements, prices, production figures, standard equipment and more.

Book excerpt: After self publishing “Died Twice” in 2012 and l’epilogue in 2018, I decided in 2021, as I turned eighty five, to conclude the autobiographical trilogy with my final compilation of quasi articulate unauthorized ramblings. In this, the final edition of my soap opera life story, there is a good mix of over forty old and new tales. I spend a good deal of time explaining the PACE story that transpired over twenty five years ago, and my latest experiences via the PEARL restaurant vignette that basically started in late 2018. For historical purposes I have also included a word by word copy of the lengthy memorialized official factual record of the HOAX at the Aqua that gave rise to the novel Russian Revenge...The Hoax at the Aqua,” which in 2017, I co-authored with my since deceased writing partner, John Nolan. I have also briefly described the Paul Shapiro story as we have been friends now for sixty eight years. As the Corona virus pandemic engulfed us all, I also relate my personal uplifting experience with the extended quarantine and intermittent lock down and appropriate social distancing. Thankfully these latest stories are all lighter and happier than the original “Died Twice,” as they are basically devoid of any additional personal tragedies or ultra sad experiences. Once again, I hope my children, grand children and some friends will enjoy a number of the stories that they may have personally experienced with me over the years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After publishing Died Twice in 2012, Bernard belatedly realized that he had neglected to include additional multiple life teaching experiences that were “hidden in the crevices of his mind” or in a few instances, purposely omitted from his life’s saga. Now in 2018, he has determined they should all be added to his original unauthorized autobiographical ramblings... that continue to be quasi articulate. In addition to those twenty or so earlier overlooked memories, he devotes the last chapters of the l’ epilogue to his relationship with his French Femme Fatale..., aka The Paris Pistol, or just plain Catherine. Unlike the original Died Twice, l’ epilogue is lighter, and “happier,” as it is essentially devoid of any additional personal tragedies or ultra sad experiences.... just a lot of fun and mystical instances...which he hopes his children, grandchildren and maybe even some friends will enjoy...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades Caribbean writers - performance poets, newspaper poets, singer-songwriters - have created a genuinely popular art form, a poetry heard by audiences all over the world. At the same time, even at its most literary, Caribbean poetry shares the vigour of the oral tradition. Writers like Nobel Prize winner Derek Walcott, and many other exciting new voices, are exploring ways of capturing the vitality of the spoken word on the page. Both of these traditions are represented in this lively anthology, which traces Caribbean verse from its roots to the present.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crisis of School Violence is the only interdisciplinary book about school violence. It presents a broad and in-depth approach to the key questions about why bullying continues at an unprecedentedly high rate and why rampage school shootings continue to shock the nation. Based on extensive research, The Crisis of School Violence investigates human nature and its relation to aggressive behavior, with a special focus on the culture of violence that predicates school violence (including rampage shootings) and perpetuates industries that profit from violence. Marianna King presents the considerable psychological and neuroscientific research that investigates the effects of violent entertainment media on the brain and, subsequently, on behavior, which clearly reveals a causal connection between exposure to violent electronic entertainment media—especially violent video games—and increased aggressive and violent behavior. The book also reveals a more specific connection between exposure to violent video games and rampage school shootings. Ultimately this volume is a call to action that includes recommendations for parents, teachers, decision makers, and citizens alike.
