Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiative decays of the B meson, B 2!X{sub s}[gamma], proceed via virtual flavor changing neutral current processes that are sensitive to contributions from high mass scales, either within the Standard Model of electroweak interactions or beyond. In the Standard Model, these transitions are sensitive to the weak interactions of the top quark, and relatively robust predictions of the inclusive decay rate exist. Significant deviation from these predictions could be interpreted as indications for processes not included in the minimal Standard Model, like interactions of charged Higgs or SUSY particles. The analysis of the inclusive photon spectrum from B 2!X{sub s}[gamma] decays is rather challenging due to high backgrounds from photons emitted in the decay of mesons in B decays as well as ee− annihilation to low mass quark and lepton pairs. Based on 88.5 million B{bar B} events collected by the BABAR detector, the photon spectrum above 1.9 GeV is presented. By comparison of the first and second moments of the photon spectrum with QCD predictions (calculated in the kinetic scheme), QCD parameters describing the bound state of the b quark in the B meson are extracted: m{sub b} = (4.45 ± 0.16) GeV/c2; [mu]{sub {pi}}2 = (0.65 ± 0.29) GeV2. These parameters are useful input to non-perturbative QCD corrections to the semileptonic B decay rate and the determination of the CKM parameter.
Book Synopsis B Decays (Revised 2nd Edition) by : Sheldon Stone
Download or read book B Decays (Revised 2nd Edition) written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-08-01 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of 'B Decays”. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of “Penguin” mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the “Standard Model” and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Download or read book Radiative Decays of the B Meson written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The radiative decays of the B meson to the final states K *(892)[gamma] and [rho](770)[gamma] proceed through virtual effective flavor-changing neutral current processes which are sensitive to contributions from high mass scales from within the Standard Model of particle interactions and from possible new physics. In the context of the Standard Model, these transitions are of interest in probing the weak interaction behavior of the top quark. In particular, the ratio of branching fractions for the two processes can be used to extract the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the Big Bang matter and antimatter were present in equal amounts. Today, however, everything we see, is made almost entirely of matter. A fundamental ingredient to explain this asymmetry between matter and antimatter is the violation of the CP (Charge Parity) symmetry. CP violation has been observed but quantitatively not enough to explain the huge asymmetry. The Belle II experiment in Japan studies the particles produced in electron-positron collisions at the SuperKEKB collider, the highest intensity collider in the World, allowing a high precision measurements of the known sources of CP violation and looking for new ones. In my PhD, I worked on measuring the CP violation in B meson radiative decays (decays with photon in final state) particularly promising thanks to their high sensitivity to possible new processes. Following this analysis, I started a new measurement of the B mesons lifetime where I could verify the robustness of the tools used in the CP violation measurement.

Download or read book Rare And Radiative B Meson Decays From the BaBar Experiment written by J. Stelzer and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its start in 1999 the BABAR experiment has collected a vast amount of data. Electron-positron collisions at the energy of the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance have produced about 240 million coherent B{sup 0}{bar B}{sup 0} and B{sup +}B{sup -} pairs, opening the doors for exploration of rare B meson decays. An overview of the electroweak penguin physics program of BABAR is given, the analysis of two specific decays is presented in detail.

Download or read book Radiative and Leptonic B-meson Decays from the B-factories written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiative and leptonic decays of B-mesons represent an excellent laboratory for the search for New Physics. I present here recent results on radiative and leptonic decays from the Belle and BABAR collaborations. Radiative penguin and leptonic B-meson decays are excellent probes for investigating the effects of New Physics. Although current measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations, they are still quite useful for setting bounds on possible NP models. The B → X{sub s}[gamma] and B → [tau][nu] measurements, for example, put strong constraints on the mass of charged Higgs bosons in Type II two-Higgs double models. The B → X{sub s}[gamma] branching fraction measurements also constrain models with universal extra dimensions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author presents measurements of radiative B meson decays to the final states Ks0?0? and K?? based on data collected at the ?(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. In a data sample of 467 million B$ar{B}$ pairs, the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0 → Ks0?0? decays is measured in two regions of Ks0-?0 invariant mass. In the K* region, 0.8 m(Ksubs/subsup0/sup?sup0/sup) 1.0 GeV/csup2/sup, we find SsubK*?/sub = -0.03 ± 0.29 ± 0.03 and CsubK*?/sub = -0.14 ± 0.16 ± 0.03; in the range 1.1 m(Ksubs/subsup0/sup?sup0/sup) 1.8 GeV/csup2/sup, they find SsubKsubs/subsup0/sup/sub?sup0/sup? = -0.78 ± 0.59 ± 0.09 and C subKsubs/subsup0/sup/sub?sup0/sup? = -0.36 ± 0.33 ± 0.04. With a sample of 228 million B$ar{B}$ pairs they measure the branching fraction ?(Bsup+/sup → Ksup+/sup??) = (3.5 ± 0.6 ± 0.4) x 10sup-6/sup and set the limit ?(Bsup0/sup→ Ksup0/sup??) 2.7 x 10sup-6/sup at 90% confidence level.
