Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hidden son of the late Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson z""l of the Hassidic sect Chabad reveals himself. Up till now his identity was a secret, only known to the closests of Rebbe Schneerson's aides. Born in 1954 out of wedlock with a gentile mother so young he had to be raised by gentile fosterparents, the son's existence was kept secret even after his father died in 1994. All those years his father remained distant: they met twice and the son was allowed to phone him once every three months. In 2012 the son decided he would not hide any longer and he wrote this book. During his lifetime and even more so since his demise, Rebbe Schneerson has been portrayed as a saint, a miracle worker and the hidden Messiah. His son has a different vision of his father and he portrays him ruthlessly honest. Then he portrays himself in the same manner, describing his basest thoughts and acts and occasionally using obscene language. If you are a young observant Jew you must NOT read this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rabbi Issachar Levi Schneerson speaks out about the extremely distant relationship he had with his father Chassidic grand rabbi 'The Rebbe' Menachem Mendel Schneerson. They were 5,862 kilometers apart, had a single phone call once every three months, and only two meetings in forty years. His father passed away in 1994 but today Issachar still does not know why his father kept him at bay. He was the grand rabbi's only son and it would have been in line with Chassidic tradition if he had succeeded his father, but his father did not even allow him inside his movement. His father even kept his existence a secret from most of his followers! Was his son's extramarital birth an embarrassment after all? Or did he want to protect his son from the religious fundamentalism and messianic frenzy that came to hold his movement in an ever tightening grip? As an adolescent Issachar felt rejected by his father and as an adult he was hurt time after time by his father's aloofness. Had he not done everything he could to adjust? He had converted to Judaism the Orthodox way, he observed the Jewish rites and rituals, he married a Jewish woman, he studied Judaism, and he even moved to Israel so his children would grow up in an entirely Jewish environment! He had done nothing wrong, so why would his father not have him? Until his father passed away on June 12, 1994, he continued to hope that one day he would call him, make his existence public, acknowledge him, but then his last hope was dashed and he became desperate. He broke down and underwent psychological treatment. He recovered somewhat, but gradually traumas from his work in the Dutch security forces took over his life and in 2007 he had to stop working. In the summer of 2014 he published his story, this book.

Book excerpt: For the last 2000 years, there has been a debate about the identity and person named Yeshua-Jesus. This person lived in the 1st century in Jerusalem and died at the hands of the Jews and Gentiles. The Jews rejected his claims that he was the Jewish Messiah foretold by the prophets in their Hebrew Bible. After the destruction of the Jewish Temple and the exile of the Jews from their land at 70 A.D., the nations took hold of Yeshua-Jesus as their Christ, which in Greek means "anointed one." The man who was born a Jew in the town of Bethlehem and who became known to many as the long-awaited Jewish Messiah, Son of God, has been lost. Jesus is more than a Rabbi.

The Eternal Dissident offers rare insight into one of the most inspiring and controversial Reform rabbis of the twentieth century, Leonard Beerman, who was renowned both for his eloquent and challenging sermons and for his unrelenting commitment to social action. Beerman was a man of powerful word and action—a probing intellectual and stirring orator, as well as a nationally known opponent of McCarthyism, racial injustice, and Israeli policy in the occupied territories. The shared source of Beerman’s thought and activism was the moral imperative of the Hebrew prophets, which he believed bestowed upon the Jewish people their role as the “eternal dissident.” This volume brings Beerman to life through a selection of his most powerful writings, followed by commentaries from notable scholars, rabbis, and public personalities that speak to the quality and ongoing relevance of Beerman’s work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jewish Resilience: Rabbinic Reflections After Colleyville On Saturday, January 15, 2022, a gunman held 4 members of Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas hostage. Thanks to emergency training and brave action taken by their rabbi, they escaped with their lives. In the days following the attack, the wisdom and words of America's rabbis offered not answers but presence, not resolution but resilience. Yes, the Talmudic sages were correct: more recent troubles cause the earlier troubles to be forgotten. The horrific attack on Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas made other woes somehow feel smaller. Not forgotten, but smaller. The entire Jewish world united in prayer in multi-thousand zoom-vigils that very long Saturday night. "Jewish Resistance" is both a multivocal commentary on Parashat Yitro (the Torah portion that followed the attack) and also an exquisite collection of modern sages making meaning of the imponderable.

On the Road with Rabbi Steinsaltz presents an intimate portrait of this wise and holy man as he has never been seen before as Kurzweil shares the rabbi's most personal, humorous, and inspiring tales. You will feel like a backseat passenger in Arthur's car as he and Rabbi Steinsaltz discuss provocative issues such as: How can we develop a personal relationship with God? What are some of the sublime ideas contained in Kabbalah? Why has God created a world with so much suffering in it? Can we be religious and live fully in the world? How can we tell what is important and what is unimportant in this life? Can we be religious and keep our sense of humor? Throughout the book Arthur Kurzweil also shares Rabbi Steinsaltz's views and teachings on Jewish identity and the role of Jews in modern society.
