Book Synopsis Handbook of Nanoscopy, 2 Volume Set by : Gustaaf van Tendeloo
Download or read book Handbook of Nanoscopy, 2 Volume Set written by Gustaaf van Tendeloo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-21 with total page 1484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely revised successor to the Handbook of Microscopy supplies in-depth coverage of all imaging technologies from the optical to the electron and scanning techniques. Adopting a twofold approach, the book firstly presents the various technologies as such, before going on to cover the materials class by class, analyzing how the different imaging methods can be successfully applied. It covers the latest developments in techniques, such as in-situ TEM, 3D imaging in TEM and SEM, as well as a broad range of material types, including metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, semiconductors, minerals, quasicrystals, amorphous solids, among others. The volumes are divided between methods and applications, making this both a reliable reference and handbook for chemists, physicists, biologists, materials scientists and engineers, as well as graduate students and their lecturers.
Book Synopsis Data Science for Nano Image Analysis by : Chiwoo Park
Download or read book Data Science for Nano Image Analysis written by Chiwoo Park and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-31 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines two distinctive topics: data science/image analysis and materials science. The purpose of this book is to show what type of nano material problems can be better solved by which set of data science methods. The majority of material science research is thus far carried out by domain-specific experts in material engineering, chemistry/chemical engineering, and mechanical & aerospace engineering. The book could benefit materials scientists and manufacturing engineers who were not exposed to systematic data science training while in schools, or data scientists in computer science or statistics disciplines who want to work on material image problems or contribute to materials discovery and optimization. This book provides in-depth discussions of how data science and operations research methods can help and improve nano image analysis, automating the otherwise manual and time-consuming operations for material engineering and enhancing decision making for nano material exploration. A broad set of data science methods are covered, including the representations of images, shape analysis, image pattern analysis, and analysis of streaming images, change points detection, graphical methods, and real-time dynamic modeling and object tracking. The data science methods are described in the context of nano image applications, with specific material science case studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surface science of metal oxides is studied using a variety of experimental and theoretical techniques, allowing the geometry, electronic structure, dynamics and the behaviour of the metal oxide-metal interface to be explored. Faraday Discussions documents a long-established series of Faraday Discussion meetings which provide a unique international forum for the exchange of views and newly acquired results in developing areas of physical chemistry, biophysical chemistry and chemical physics. The papers presented are published in the Faraday Discussion volume together with a record of the discussion contributions made at the meeting. Faraday Discussions therefore provide an important record of current international knowledge and views in the field concerned.

This book was released on 2004-06-22 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fact that magnetite (Fe304) was already known in the Greek era as a peculiar mineral is indicative of the long history of transition metal oxides as useful materials. The discovery of high-temperature superconductivity in 1986 has renewed interest in transition metal oxides. High-temperature su perconductors are all cuprates. Why is it? To answer to this question, we must understand the electronic states in the cuprates. Transition metal oxides are also familiar as magnets. They might be found stuck on the door of your kitchen refrigerator. Magnetic materials are valuable not only as magnets but as electronics materials. Manganites have received special attention recently because of their extremely large magnetoresistance, an effect so large that it is called colossal magnetoresistance (CMR). What is the difference between high-temperature superconducting cuprates and CMR manganites? Elements with incomplete d shells in the periodic table are called tran sition elements. Among them, the following eight elements with the atomic numbers from 22 to 29, i. e. , Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu are the most im portant. These elements make compounds with oxygen and present a variety of properties. High-temperature superconductivity and CMR are examples. Most of the textbooks on magnetism discuss the magnetic properties of transition metal oxides. However, when one studies magnetism using tradi tional textbooks, one finds that the transport properties are not introduced in the initial stages.

Book Synopsis Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy by : Dawn Bonnell
Download or read book Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy written by Dawn Bonnell and published by Wiley. This book was released on 1993-03-29 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) provides three-dimensional real- space images of surfaces at high spatial resolution. When the surface is flat and clean, even atoms can be imaged. Its extreme usefulness has led it to near instantaneous acceptance as a characterization tool. This book covers fundamental concepts of STM operation, image interpretation, instrumentation, and techniques for various applications. It als contains advanced treatments of theory and spectroscopy. Surface physicists, electrochemists, materials scientists, and other scientists who see a use for STM will find the depth of coverage and accompanying reference lists in this book essential to their work. In addition, those who wish to add the capabilities of probe microscopy to their operations, such as microscopists and quality control engineers, will find the basic information in this book.

Book Synopsis Interfacial Electrochemistry by : Wolfgang Schmickler
Download or read book Interfacial Electrochemistry written by Wolfgang Schmickler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-26 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemistry is an old branch of physical chemistry. Due to the development of surface sensitive techniques, and a technological interest in fuel cells and batteries, it has recently undergone a rapid development. This textbook treats the field from a modern, atomistic point of view while integrating the older, macroscopic concepts. The increasing role of theory is reflected in the presentation of the basic ideas in a way that should appeal to experimentalists and theorists alike. Special care is taken to make the subject comprehensible to scientists from neighboring disciplines, especially from surface science. The book is suitable for an advanced course at the master or Ph.D. level, but should also be useful for practicing electrochemists, as well as to any scientist who wants to understand modern electrochemistry.
Book Synopsis Crystal Defects and Crystalline Interfaces by : Walter Bollmann
Download or read book Crystal Defects and Crystalline Interfaces written by Walter Bollmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is nonnal for the preface to explain the motivation behind the writing of the book. Since many good books dealing with the general theory of crystal defects already exist, a new book has to be especially justified, and here its main justification lies in its treatment of crystal line interfaces. About 1961, the work of the author, essentially based on the fundamental work of Professor F. C. Frank, started to branch away from the main flow of thought in this field and eventually led to a general geometrical theory which is presented as a whole for the first time in this book. Although nearly all that is presented has already been published in different journals and symposia, it might be difficult for the reader to follow that literature, as a new terminology and new methods of analysis had to be developed. Special emphasis is given to discussion and many diagrams are included in order that a clear view of the basic concepts be obtained. Intennediate summaries try to bring out the main points of the chapters. Instead of specific exercises, general suggestions for them are given. The part up to chapter 9 is considered more or less as introductory, so that the book can be studied without specific knowledge of crystals and crystal defects. The presentation of that part developed out of lectures given by the author at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
