Book Synopsis Solid State Chemical Sensors by : Jiri Janata
Download or read book Solid State Chemical Sensors written by Jiri Janata and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid State Chemical Sensors reviews the basic chemical and physical principles involved in the construction and operation of solid state sensors. A major portion of the book is devoted to explanation of the basic mechanism of operation and the many actual and potential applications of field effect transistors for gas and solution sensing. This text is comprised of four chapters; the first of which describes the basics of device fabrication. Emphasis is placed on the physical description of semiconductor devices with catalytic metal gates, along with their drawbacks and their promise. The behavior of hydrogen in the Pd-SiO2 system is also considered, and some applications of hydrogen-sensitive transistors, such as smoke detection and biochemical reaction monitoring, are described. The second chapter focuses on chemically sensitive field effect transistors and their thermodynamics, while the third chapter explains the general fabrication procedure for solid state chemical sensors. The final chapter introduces the reader to piezoelectric and pyroelectric chemical sensors, paying particular attention to the sensor nature of piezoelectricity, the piezoelectric gravimetric sensor, and pyroelectric gas analysis. This book is intended to assist electrical engineers in understanding the chemistry involved in the construction and operation of solid state sensors and to educate chemists in solid state science.

Book Synopsis Elementary Statistics by : Nancy Pfenning
Download or read book Elementary Statistics written by Nancy Pfenning and published by Thomson Brooks/Cole. This book was released on 2011 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a successfully class-tested approach that gives coherence to a broad range of introductory topics, this innovative text provides students with a big picture view of statistics as well as problem-solving strategies that can be applied to the majority of questions that introductory-statistics students will encounter. Author Nancy Pfenning organizes content around four basic processes of statistics: producing data, displaying and summarizing data, understanding probability, and using probability to perform statistical inference. Within this framework, the book progresses systematically through five basic situations involving values of variables (quantitative, categorical, or a blend). As a result, students learn to identify which situation applies to a specific statistical problem and how to choose the correct display, summary, or inference tool. As students gain proficiency in specific statistical techniques, the author also points out connections among topics and techniques to help them gain a perspective on statistics as a whole. More than 1,000 real-life examples and categorized exercises support the approach, engaging students in practicing and developing a variety of skills.

TheExcursionsactivity and correspondingExcursion Exercises, denoted by an icon, conclude each section, providing opportunities for in-class cooperative work, hands-on learning, and development of critical-thinking skills. These activities are also ideal for projects or extra credit assignments. TheExcursionsare designed to reinforce the material that has just been covered in the section in a fun and engaging manner that will enhance a student's journey and discovery of mathematics. The proven Aufmann Interactive Method ensures that students try concepts and manipulate real-life data as they progress through the material. Every objective contains at least one set of matched-pair examples. The method begins with a worked-out example with a solution in numerical and verbal formats to address different learning styles. The matched problem, calledCheck Your Progress,is left for the student to try. Each problem includes a reference to a fully worked out solution in an appendix to which the student can refer for immediate feedback, concept reinforcement, identification of problem areas, and prevention of frustration. Eduspace, powered by Blackboard, for the Aufmann/Lockwood/Nation/CleggMath Excursionscourse features algorithmic exercises and test bank content in question pools.
