Book excerpt: The incredible true story of a 100,000-mile motorcycle world record attempt where the only thing that didn't break was their spirit. In the spring of 2022, renowned long distance motorcycle riders Wendy Crockett and Ian McPhee set out to execute their meticulously planned World Record ride attempt. The premise was simple enough: Visit every Australian state in alphabetical order, documenting each visit by photographing the state’s capitol building. The approach would then be replicated in the United States, visiting a grand total of 58 capitols on an epic road trip adventure spanning two continents and three countries. Reality hit hard with the revelation that absolutely nothing about this undertaking was destined to go smoothly. Yet even in the face of unfathomable adversity, including breakdowns, illness, animals strikes, historic weather events, and multiple hospitalizations, this tenacious duo refused to abandon their quest. Fueled by boundless optimism and unrelenting determination, Pushing Miles is a brutally honest and surprisingly humorous look at what it takes to make an uphill ride into endurance motorcycling history.

Friendship takes on new meaning in this true story of Justin and Patrick, born less than two days apart in the same hospital. Best friends their whole lives, they grew up together, went to school together, and were best man in each other’s weddings. When Justin was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease that robbed him of the use of his arms and legs, Patrick was there, helping to feed and care for him in ways he’d never imagined. Determined to live life to the fullest, the friends refused to give into despair or let physical limitations control what was possible for Justin. So when Justin heard about the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile trek through Spain, he wondered aloud to Patrick whether the two of them could ever do it. Patrick’s immediate response was: “I’ll push you.” I’ll Push You is the real-life story of this incredible journey. A travel adventure full of love, humor, and spiritual truth, it exemplifies what every friendship is meant to be and shows what it means to never find yourself alone. You’ll discover how love and faith can push past all limits—and make us the best versions of ourselves.

Book excerpt: They were mostly inexperienced campers, "raising their hands" to take a big risk, exchanging their comfortable lives for a difficult week of mountaineering. Over 135 college students and alumni tell stories and share memories of teamwork and testing, disappointment and triumph. They pushed their limits, believed in themselves, and took time for personal reflection. Sometimes pain -- sore muscles, altitude sickness, and frozen toes -- seemed insurmountable. Yet in memory, overcoming physical challenges remains a source of great satisfaction. Persisting when they most want to quit teaches young people to think big. Exhaustion and discomfort can be dispelled by camaraderie and humility. In their futures, finding solutions to tough problems will require truly exceptional leadership. Whether they are called to lead, asked to lead, or forced to lead, all who dared those summits will be better prepared to meet any challenge they will face.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1932, the worst year of the Great Depression, more than twenty thousand mostly homeless World War I veterans trekked to the nation’s capital to petition Congress to grant them early payment of a promised bonus. The Hoover Administration and the local government urged Washington, DC, police chief Pelham Glassford to forcefully drive this “bonus army” out of the city. Instead, he defied both governments for months and found food and shelter for the veterans until Congress voted on their request. Glassford’s efforts to persuade federal and local officials to deal sympathetically with the protesters were ultimately in vain, but his proposed solutions, though disregarded by his supervisors, demonstrate that compassion and empathy could be more effective ways of dealing with radical protests than violent suppression.
