Book Synopsis What Color Is Your Dog? by : Joel Silverman
Download or read book What Color Is Your Dog? written by Joel Silverman and published by Fox Chapel Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting dog training book is based on the original techniques of Hollywood dog trainer and Animal Planet's Good Dog U host, Joel Silverman. In What Color Is Your Dog? Silverman presents his groundbreaking color-coding technique, developed over his thirty-year career training dogs for film, television, and commercials as well as working with killer whales in Sea World. By determining what color is an owner's dog, he is able to recognize and then enhance his dog's behavior, following the techniques outlined in the book.Silverman's advice for new puppy owners is to develop a strong, trusting relationship with their puppies in their first thirty days. He shuns traditional concepts of beginning the puppy's lessons as soon as the puppy comes home; instead he proposes that new owners spend time having fun, building trust, and enjoying the first month of the relationship. By increasing the dog's trust and "like" of his owner, the dog becomes more willing and eager to please and work with his owner/trainer.The main gist of the book comes from Silverman's color system in which five basic canine personalities or temperaments are assigned colors. With the descriptions of the five colors in hand;Blue (a fearful, rather skittish type dog), Green (a more or less bashful pooch), Yellow (the ideal, easygoing companion dog), Orange (excitable, but relatively under control dog), and Red (the hyper, high-strung dog that bounces off the walks as soon as bark);an owner is able to determine which color best matches his dog's temperament and approach the dog's lessons accordingly. The dog owner's goal then is to move his dog as close to the middle of the color spectrum (Yellow) as possible by using the training practices outlined in the book.Silverman devotes a full chapter to each of the five colors, explaining what makes each color type tick and how owners should best handle such a dog.The second half of the book focuses on training tools and techniques and teaching specific cues (sit/stay, stay, come, and no). There is also a chapter for the puppy owner giving helpful advice on special techniques to use for puppies.
Book Synopsis The Circle Broken by : Dorothy Carvello
Download or read book The Circle Broken written by Dorothy Carvello and published by Regalo Press. This book was released on 2024-05-28 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cee Cee Porter came to Nashville as a young woman with a handful of love songs she’d written for her husband, Bucky, and a dream of joining the ranks of country music queens. After one of the songs became a hit, Bucky convinced her to trade her career for a family. Meanwhile, he founded DMG Records and became a major power player in Nashville. Now their marriage is falling apart. Like a good, Southern, Christian woman, Cee Cee does everything she can to save it. But when Bucky signs the young Australian phenomenon Michael Jennings, Cee Cee’s world is upended. As she tries to create a life above Nashville’s hypocritical moral stricture, she is menaced at every turn. A fast-paced, complex, true-to-life story, The Circle Broken captures what it’s really like to be in the music business: the fame, the debauchery, the manipulation, and the duplicity. It is a dramatic exploration of the psychology of money and power, illuminating the struggle of women trying to rise in a male-dominated world. Most importantly, it is a story about identity and about how trauma is passed from generation to generation, like a song no one can stop singing. Can the circle ever be broken?

Book Synopsis Freshwater Aquariums by : David Alderton
Download or read book Freshwater Aquariums written by David Alderton and published by Fox Chapel Publishing. This book was released on 2003-02-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For beginning aquatic fancier looking to start out right with fish, Freshwater Aquariums by David Alderton is the ideal primer. A vertebrate that breathe primarily by means of gills and swim by means of fins is the author’s lead-in to the first chapter called “What are Fish?” Alderton builds the reader’s confidence by providing solid information about what fish are anatomically speaking, how they evolved, how they breathe, how they move, where they live, and how they behave. The new fancier’s aquarium begins in chapter two with instructions on setting up the tank, including selecting the right size, figuring out how many fish, setting the tank, equipment, substrate, heating, lighting, filtrations, plants, water chemistry, assembly, and more. Choosing the freshwater fishes that appeal to the reader is the subject of “Introducing the Categories of Fish,” which schools readers in seven categories: Cyprinids (e.g., goldfish, minnows, and barbs), Characins (e.g., tetras), Cichlids (e.g., oscars, angelfish, and discus), Anabantoids (gouramis, bettas/Siamese fighting fish, and paradise fish), Toothcarps (guppies, swordtails, platies, black mollies, and killifish), Catfish, and others (loaches and Chinese algae eaters). The purchasing, maintenance, and feeding of fish are described in considerable details, and the author gives a basic overview of breeding and keeping fish healthy as well. Resources, glossary, and index conclude the book.
