Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rubiks Cube of Bible Prophecy is the first volume in a series entitled Piecing Together Bible Prophecy. The series is intended to ultimately provide the reader with a fairly thorough panorama of Bible prophecy that will serve as a scripturally sound summary of this most intriguing and important topic. Although the subject is unavoidably sensational, this series will attempt to steer clear of over-sensationalizing the subject. It will also attempt to present the reader with a different take on Bible prophecy than the traditional and popular theories of our day. This first volume lays the foundation for all that will follow by familiarizing the reader with the fundamentals of Bible prophecy. It asks and answers such important questions as: (1) Why should we study Bible prophecy? (2) How should we interpret Bible prophecy? (3) How did we end up with so many convoluted and contradictory schools of thought? and (4) How should we define the prominent terms employed today in the study of this most pertinent topic?

Book excerpt: A “superb fantasy saga” (Helene Wecker) of martial arts and magic, about what happens when a prophesied hero is not the chosen one after all—but has to work with a band of unlikely allies to save the kingdom anyway, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lives of Tao “An ambitious and touching exploration of disillusionment in faith, tradition, and family—a glorious reinvention of fantasy and wuxia tropes.”—Naomi Novik, New York Times bestselling author of A Deadly Education ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Gizmodo, Kirkus Reviews, The Quill to Live So many stories begin the same way: With a prophecy. A chosen one. And the inevitable quest to slay a villain, save the kingdom, and fulfill a grand destiny. But this is not that kind of story. It does begin with a prophecy: A child will rise to defeat the Eternal Khan, a cruel immortal god-king, and save the kingdom. And that prophecy did anoint a hero, Jian, raised since birth in luxury and splendor, and celebrated before he has won a single battle. But that’s when the story hits its first twist: The prophecy is wrong. What follows is a story more wondrous than any prophecy could foresee, and with many unexpected heroes: Taishi, an older woman who is the greatest grandmaster of magical martial arts in the kingdom but who thought her adventuring days were all behind her; Sali, a straitlaced warrior who learns the rules may no longer apply when the leader to whom she pledged her life is gone; and Qisami, a chaotic assassin who takes a little too much pleasure in the kill. And Jian himself, who has to find a way to become what he no longer believes he can be—a hero after all.
Book Synopsis Prophets, Prophecy, and Ancient Israelite Historiography by : Mark J. Boda
Download or read book Prophets, Prophecy, and Ancient Israelite Historiography written by Mark J. Boda and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 18 essays by members of the Canadian Society for Biblical Studies published in this volume showcase the work of leading authorities on ancient Israelite and Jewish historiography as it intersects with the phenomenon of prophecy. A deep divide exists between the traditions of historiography and prophecy in the academic study of the Hebrew Bible, and the concern of the contributors is to close that gap, to expose the close relationship between these two traditions in the literature of the Hebrew Bible. The first section of the book explores prophecy and prophets in ancient Israelite and Jewish historiographic books (Torah, Deuteronomistic History, Chronicles, Ezra–Nehemiah, Second Temple Jewish historiography). The second section surveys historiography in Israelite and Jewish prophetic books (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Book of the Twelve, Daniel, 1 Enoch). The contributors engage diverse methodological perspectives in these studies, the goal first being to show the role that the prophets played within the great Hebrew historiographic works and, second, to demonstrate the role that historiography plays within the great Hebrew prophetic works; this makes it clear that the influence is bidirectional. Prophets, Prophecy, and Ancient Israelite Historiography will be of value for advanced students and scholars working on historiographic and prophetic materials in the ancient Israelite and Jewish traditions, featuring the best of research and analysis and interacting with many major ancient literary traditions of historiography and prophecy.
Book Synopsis The Rhetoric of Romantic Prophecy by : Ian Balfour
Download or read book The Rhetoric of Romantic Prophecy written by Ian Balfour and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Romantic era in England and Germany saw a sudden renewal of prophetic modes of writing. Biblical prophecy and, to a lesser extent, classical oracle again became viable models for poetry and even for journalistic prose. Notably, this development arose out of the new-found freedom of biblical interpretation that began in the mid-eighteenth century, as the Bible was increasingly seen to be a literary and mythical text. Taking Walter Benjamin’s thinking about history as a point of departure, the author shows how the model for Romantic prophecy emerges less as a prediction of the future than as a call to change in the present, even as it quotes, at key turns, texts from the past. After surveying developments in eighteenth-century biblical hermeneutics, as well as the numerous instances of prophetic eruption in Romantic poetry, the book culminates in close readings of works by Blake, Hölderlin, and Coleridge. Each of these writers interpreted the Bible in strong, variously radical and conservative ways, and each reworked prophetic texts in often startling fashion. The author’s reading of Blake focuses on the complex temporal and rhetorical dynamics at work in a prophetic tradition, with attention paid to the key mediating figure of Milton. The chapter on Hölderlin investigates the truth-claim of poetry and the consequences of Hölderlin’s insight into the necessarily figural character of poetry. The analysis of Coleridge correlates his theory of allegory and symbol with his theory and practice of political writing, which often relies on mobilizing prophetic authority. Together, the readings force us to reexamine the claims and practices of Romantic poets and thinkers and their ideas and ideologies, not without engendering some allegorical resonance with issues in our own time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would you do? What if you stumbled across a messagea simple interpretation of scripture much simpler than scholars had been telling usand it opened your eyes and completely transformed your perspective of the end times? What if you knew in your heart and mind it was true because news coming from the Middle East confirmed this message every day? What if millions of lives were about to be deeply affected and someone had to say something? And what if that someone had to be you? What would you do? If you want to know the truth regarding present-day events in the Middle East and how they will affect you and your family, you need to get this book. A major fire has been lit and few are paying attention. Dr. Sonny Payne, founder of New Gate Ministries and host of the international television program Jerusalem Chronicles What Mark has done is create a very quick read for those Christians who can feel something coming but cant put their finger on it, who know that God is in control but, in a world spiraling into chaos, dont know where to go scripturally. Chris Mantei, Northeast Region Community Voice, Voice of the Martyrs The message in this book needs to be heard today! I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book. It will change the way you face the future! Carl Sutter, senior pastor, Foundations Church, Loveland, Colorado
