Book excerpt: In 1949 a powerful political-military movement, led by the Chinese Communist party, gained control of war-ravaged China, inheriting a disorganized administration and a society eroded by decades of revolution. Within a short time China was so radically transformed politically, economically, and socially that it appeared to have cut all links with the past. The instruments of that transformation were ideology and organization. Today, seventeen years later, the ideology and the organizational network, despite changes, remain as powerful as they were in 1949. They still hold that vast country together politically and determine its economic and social development. This book, after a discussion of ideology in its first part, attempts to answer the question how Chinese Communist organization functions and why it is so successful. The second part analyzes the organization of Party and government, emphasizing methods of command and administration. The third part looks at industrial organization: the problems of management and control, especially the continuing struggle between the professionals and the politicians. The fourth part investigates the Chinese Communist methods of organizing their cities and villages, tracing the history of village organization from traditional times through the Yenan period, the land reform of the late 1940's, and the collectivization of the mid-1950's to communization in 1958. Although organization has been constantly changing in China, basic patterns ar apparent. The book analyzes the most characteristic pattern in all aspects of organization, the conflict between two incompatible elements or, in the Chinese Communist terms, "contradictions." The basic contradiction is that between professional ("expert") and political ("red") elements. This contradiction dominates the two distinctive periods in the short history of Communist China, the First Five-Year Plan (1953 - 1957) and the so-called Great Leap Forward (1958 - 1960). The book describes how the Chinese Communists attempted during the former period to emulate the Soviet organizational experience, with stress on techniques and technology; and during the latter period to use their own organizational methods to achieve economic progress. The presentation of the contrast between these two models of organization sheds light on the significant differences between the Soviet Union and Communist China. Book excerpt: There is a plethora of theoretical books out there addressing management of human resources and responsibilities, in order to help organisations perform in the best possible way. Be that as it may, only a few of them suggest actual ways of applying what is written to everyday situations. This particular book constitutes a valuable tool in managers attempt to put the basic principles of management into action in the workplace. This book involves certain concepts, notions and theories related to marketing, management and psychology, aiming to help the reader shape a broader impression of external reality. How do creativity and inspiration function? In which ways can individuals stimulate them? Which are the functions of human conscience and what do they serve for? Which are the positive and negative features involved in individuals thought processes? What makes people change? What can individuals do in order to attain personal and professional success? How do leaders respond and operate in times of crisis? The above are only some of the questions raised in the book. According to my book, financial crisis tested all the social and economic environment. Things are changing rapidly and individuals have to change and adapt very fast in order to survive (this is the first part of my book Personal Development) . Nowadays, a manager is concerned to be a leader. A kind of a hero. A person who can inspire, attack and come out intact from the transactions and reforms. Employees must give the extra mile to their leaders and from all these chaotic circumstances (environment ) they have to succeed for their own good! Furthermore, what individuals have to do in order to attain personal and professional success and how do leaders respond and operate in times of crisis? All these, in my personal opinion, responded in my book in order to give a few guide lines (second part) to anyone who want/need to change/survive today. An attempt is made to provide a plausible answer, in order to render the reader more aware of such concerns and stimulate a change for the better

Often cited in many fields and consistently assigned to classes in a variety of departments -- including sociology and business, and executive training in management and military leadership -- this book is considered to have virtually created the modern field of institutional-leadership management. It is still recognized as a lively and accessible presentation of the institutionalist school's answer to traditional "rationalist" approaches. Selznick's analysis goes beyond efficiency and traditional loyalty: he examines the more nuanced variables of effective leadership of organizations in business, education, government, the military, and labor. Quality, authorized ebook format includes linked notes and Contents and embedded pagination from print editions for continuity of referencing and classroom adoptions across all platforms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To Every People From Every People trains people to plant reproducing churches in the mainstream of unreached cultures around the world. There are over two billion people living in over seven thousand such cultures who will never have an adequate chance to know Christ as Lord and Savior unless someone plants churches in the mainstream of their culture and language group. This book teaches clearly and biblically about why that is important. More important, it teaches you how to do it. It focuses on practical subjects like how to learn another language without studying it in a school and how to make an effective strategy. It actually walks you through case studies with illustrations so you can get a mental picture of how to plant reproducing churches in the mainstream of any people group. An earlier version of this book was originally written specifically for Latin America. It was published by Editora Vida (Miami, Florida) in several editions of Spanish and Portuguese. It has long been the best-selling book of its kind for many years. This English edition has been revised and updated for a global English-speaking audience. Many thousands of people have used this book to plant new churches in other cultures and even in their own cultures. The anthropological, communications, and sociological principles in this book have also helped people understand the Bible better and how to apply its truths anywhere. Most of all, this book is designed to implant vision and passion for cross-cultural ministry in the mind and heart of the reader. It creates a mental image of how to do it. It is a powerful tool intended for the Holy Spirit to use to thrust forth dedicated and effective laborers into the unreached harvest fields of the world!
