Book excerpt: Excerpt from Proceedings of the Eight Annual Conference: Under the Auspices of the National Tax Association (Formerly "State and Local Taxation"), Held at Denver, Colorado, September 8 to 11, 1914 Attention was called in the Introduction to the Proceedings of the Seventh Annual Conference to the fact that the National Tax Association is separate and distinct from the Annual Conferences, whose proceedings are published in the series formerly known as State and Local Taxation. The reasons for this separation of the two organizations were set forth in the introduction to the preceding volume and need not be repeated here. As a result of this separation, however, the published proceedings have been confined quite closely to conference activities. It is upon the association, however, that the burden falls of arranging for the annual conferences, as well as that of supporting the educational work carried on between conferences. It is desirable that those who are interested in the conference should have some understanding of the conditions and plans of the association, and to this end the following abstract of the report of the Treasurer of the National Tax Association is appended. It may be stated - obviously without the knowledge or consent of the Treasurer himself - that since the retirement of the founder of the association, Allen Ripley Foote, and the original set of officers associated with him, no member of the association has been so indefatigable in building it up or so tireless in expanding its influence and usefulness as Mr. A. E. Holcomb, the present Treasurer. It is hoped that his suggestions may lead members and delegates to render all possible assistance in strengthening the association and broadening its influence.
