Book Synopsis Plasma Membrane Redox Systems and their role in Biological Stress and Disease by : Han Asard
Download or read book Plasma Membrane Redox Systems and their role in Biological Stress and Disease written by Han Asard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxidation-reduction (i.e. redox) processes at the plasma membrane of any cell have been attracting more and more attention, both in basic and in applied research, since the first workshop dealing with the plasma membrane oxidoreductases was organized in Cordoba, Spain, in 1988. This evolution is evident considering the numerous cell functions performed by plasma membrane redox systems not only in healthy cells but also in cells that escaped from the normal metabolic control (e.g. cancer cells) and cells under attack by pathogens. Plasma membrane redox processes have now been demonstrated to play an essential role in growth control and defense mechanisms of these cells. The great importance of the plasma membrane redox systems originates in the fact that they are located in the membrane which is essentially the site of communication between the living cell and its environment. We may say that the plasma membrane can be considered as the "sensory part" of the cell. No chemical substance can enter the cell interior without interaction with the plasma membrane.

Book Synopsis Early Life Origins of Health and Disease by : E. Marelyn Wintour-Coghlan
Download or read book Early Life Origins of Health and Disease written by E. Marelyn Wintour-Coghlan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-13 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early Life Origins of Health and Disease is a new book which presents and discusses the many factors that may have impact on normal development. In a concise and readable manner, the authors consider both the proven and suggestive evidence that the high prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, obesity and, in some populations, kidney disease, may not be all due to genetics or adult environment alone. There is good evidence that stress and more subtle dietary deficiencies, as well as placental malfunction, may increase the risk that the offspring will develop these problems in later life. Finally, new and emerging evidence for other areas of human health and disease such a motor control and mental health is critically reviewed for the first time. The book is a ‘must’ for all scientists interested in researching these areas, as there is a critical evaluation of the methodology used and suggestions for the ‘optimal’ way in which to investigate these phenomena.
Book Synopsis Poly(ADP-Ribose) Polymerase by : Alexei V. Tulin
Download or read book Poly(ADP-Ribose) Polymerase written by Alexei V. Tulin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-14 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This detailed volume explores poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases (PARPs) in the biology of eukaryotes and their relevance to human health. Beginning with a section on the detection and quantification of poly(ADP-ribose) polymer (pADPr), the book continues by delving into the identification of protein targets, functional analysis, the poly(ADP-ribosyl)ating pathway in chromatin and genes expression, as well as the use of animal models and PARP1 inhibitor design and testing, and more. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and up-to-date, Poly(ADP-Ribose) Polymerase: Methods and Protocols, Third Edition presents essential new and classical methods for studying the pADPr-pathway.
