Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 47th International Conference on Objects, Components, Models and Patterns, TOOLS EUROPE 2009, held in Zurich, Switzerland, in June/July 2009. TOOLS has played a major role in the spread of object-oriented and component technologies. It has now broadened its scope beyond the original topics of object technology and component-based development to encompass all modern, practical approaches to software development. At the same time, TOOLS has kept its traditional spirit of technical excellence, its acclaimed focus on practicality, its well-proven combination of theory and applications, and its reliance on the best experts from academia and industry. The 17 regular papers and two short papers presented in this book, together with two invited papers, were carefully reviewed and selected from 67 submissions. The topics covered in this volume are reflection and aspects, models, theory, components, monitoring, and systems generation.

Book excerpt: The book addresses a relevant field of digital processing and measurement of signals in distribution networks. The importance of the covered topic is evidenced by extensive foreign and domestic professional literature, in the form of publications in leading international journals, and numerous professional and scientific books. For the past two decades, the author has published a number of papers both in international journals and at leading world conferences, further verifying the results he has achieved in this field. It should be noted that he is also the holder of several national patents, which were created precisely as a result of working on the problems of processing complex signals of voltage and current. Readers of this book will be the students of master and doctoral studies both in the country and abroad and experts in the field of signal processing. It is a valuable source for future authors of professional and scientific papers, as a basis on which to start when developing completely new techniques for processing complex signals not only in the power system, but also in other fields of engineering and everyday life.

Book excerpt: In Advanced ULSI interconnects – fundamentals and applications we bring a comprehensive description of copper-based interconnect technology for ultra-lar- scale integration (ULSI) technology for integrated circuit (IC) application. In- grated circuit technology is the base for all modern electronics systems. You can ?nd electronics systems today everywhere: from toys and home appliances to a- planes and space shuttles. Electronics systems form the hardware that together with software are the bases of the modern information society. The rapid growth and vast exploitation of modern electronics system create a strong demand for new and improved electronic circuits as demonstrated by the amazing progress in the ?eld of ULSI technology. This progress is well described by the famous “Moore’s law” which states, in its most general form, that all the metrics that describe integrated circuit performance (e. g. , speed, number of devices, chip area) improve expon- tially as a function of time. For example, the number of components per chip d- bles every 18 months and the critical dimension on a chip has shrunk by 50% every 2 years on average in the last 30 years. This rapid growth in integrated circuits te- nology results in highly complex integrated circuits with an increasing number of interconnects on chips and between the chip and its package. The complexity of the interconnect network on chips involves an increasing number of metal lines per interconnect level, more interconnect levels, and at the same time a reduction in the interconnect line critical dimensions.
