Book Synopsis Network and Operating Systems Support for Digital Audio and Video by : Thomas D.C. Little
Download or read book Network and Operating Systems Support for Digital Audio and Video written by Thomas D.C. Little and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-11-30 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prevailing orthodoxy according to which all macroeconomic theory should be reducible to microeconomics is criticized. Such a dogma excludes from economics the creation of new knowledge, which - as distinguished from the mere transmission of knowledge in education and training - is a social process not reducible to microeconomics. A mathematical extension of the Lucas theory to allow for the effects of creation of knowledge upon economic development is shown to improve essentially the prediction of business cycle data, when compared with the conventional real business cycle models of Kydland and Prescott, Hansen and Rogerson, and Danthine and Donaldson.

Book Synopsis P2P Networking and Applications by : John Buford
Download or read book P2P Networking and Applications written by John Buford and published by Morgan Kaufmann. This book was released on 2009-03-11 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks enable users to directly share digital content (such as audio, video, and text files) as well as real-time data (such as telephony traffic) with other users without depending on a central server. Although originally popularized by unlicensed online music services such as Napster, P2P networking has recently emerged as a viable multimillion dollar business model for the distribution of information, telecommunications, and social networking. Written at an accessible level for any reader familiar with fundamental Internet protocols, the book explains the conceptual operations and architecture underlying basic P2P systems using well-known commercial systems as models and also provides the means to improve upon these models with innovations that will better performance, security, and flexibility. Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications is thus both a valuable starting point and an important reference to those practitioners employed by any of the 200 companies with approximately $400 million invested in this new and lucrative technology. Uses well-known commercial P2P systems as models, thus demonstrating real-world applicability. Discusses how current research trends in wireless networking, high-def content, DRM, etc. will intersect with P2P, allowing readers to account for future developments in their designs. Provides online access to the Overlay Weaver P2P emulator, an open-source tool that supports a number of peer-to-peer applications with which readers can practice.
Book Synopsis Scalable Video on Demand by : Michael Zink
Download or read book Scalable Video on Demand written by Michael Zink and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-07-17 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the proliferation of available video content and the popularity of the Internet have encouraged service providers to develop new ways of distributing content to clients. Increasing video scaling ratios and advanced digital signal processing techniques have led to Internet Video-on-Demand applications, but these currently lack efficiency and quality. Scalable Video on Demand: Adaptive Internet-based Distribution examines how current video compression and streaming can be used to deliver high-quality applications over the Internet. In addition to analysing the problems of client heterogeneity and the absence of Quality of Service in the Internet, this book: assesses existing products and encoding formats; presents new algorithms and protocols for optimised on-line video streaming architectures; includes real-world application examples and experiments; sets out a practical ‘toolkit’ for Dynamically Reconfigurable Multimedia Distribution Systems. Written by an expert in the field of video distribution, Scalable Video on Demand: Adaptive Internet-based Distribution provides a novel approach to the design and implementation of Video-on-Demand systems for Software Engineers and researchers. It will also be useful for graduate students following Electronic Engineering and Computer Science courses.
