Book Synopsis La prévention de l'échec scolaire by : Jean-Paul Martinez
Download or read book La prévention de l'échec scolaire written by Jean-Paul Martinez and published by Puq. This book was released on 2008 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This section begins by looking at the number of children who are out of schoolsome of whom have attended school at some point. It then presents the structure of national systems of compulsory education in order to identify the trajectories by which pupils progress -- or not -- through the education system. When are children meant to enter school and what are the ages that are supposed to be covered by the system? How effective is the policy concerning compulsory education? Does it cover all children? Do they start on time? The section ends with a description of the main patterns of school progression found across the world.
Book Synopsis Children's Creative Spelling by : Charles Read
Download or read book Children's Creative Spelling written by Charles Read and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, originally published in 1986, Professor Charles Read examines the ways in which pre-school and primary children create spellings – or misspellings, as they appear to be. He focuses on the hidden phonetic bases for some frequent patterns in young children’s spelling, both in and out of school. Professor Read examines children’s spelling in other languages (Dutch, French, Spanish) as well as in various dialects of English, in order to see the influence of other sets of speech sounds and other standard spelling systems. Overall, the evidence suggests that children are very much affected by phonetic characteristics, as they tend to spell alike certain classes of speech sound which are indeed phonetically similar. In devising spellings, children can be remarkably independent and inventive in an activity which for adults is anything but creative, and Professor Read suggests ways in which educators can build upon this creativity.
Book Synopsis Confronting the Shadow Education System by : Mark Bray
Download or read book Confronting the Shadow Education System written by Mark Bray and published by United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2009 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the so-called shadow education system of private supplementary tutoring. In parts of East Asia it has long existed on a large scale and it is now becoming increasingly evident in other parts of Asia and in Africa, Europe and North America. Pupils commonly receive fee-free education in public schools and then at the end of the day and/or during week-ends and vacations supplementary tutoring in the same subjects on a fee-paying basis.Supplementary private tutoring can have positive dimensions. It helps students to cover the curriculum, provides a structured occupation for pupils outside school hours, and provides incomes for the tutors. However, tutoring may also have negative dimensions. If left to market forces, tutoring is likely to maintain and increase social inequalities, and it can create excessive pressure for young people who have inadequate time for non-academic activities. Especially problematic are situations in which school teachers provide extra tutoring in exchange for fees from their regular pupils. This book begins by surveying the scale, nature and implications of the shadow education system in a range of settings. It then identifies possible government responses to the phenomenon and encourages a proactive approach to designing appropriate policies.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fixing the Broken Promise of Education for All, published by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and UNICEF, presents the latest statistical evidence from administrative records and household surveys to better identify children who are out of school and the reasons for their exclusion from education. It aims to inform the policies needed to reach these children and finally deliver the promise of Education for All. Based on a series of national and regional studies and policy analysis by leading experts, the report explains why better data and cross-sector collaboration are fundamental to the design of effective interventions to overcome the barriers facing out-of-school children and adolescents. While highlighting the way forward for system-wide policies to improve educational quality and affordability, the report also presents the information needed for targeted approaches to address the compounding effects of disadvantage faced by children caught up in armed conflict, girls, working children, children with disabilities, or members of ethnic or linguistic minorities. This report presents a roadmap to improve the data, research and policies needed to catalyse action for out-of-school children as the world embarks on a new development agenda for education.

Book Synopsis Organizations, Uncertainties, And Risk by : James F. Short, Jr.
Download or read book Organizations, Uncertainties, And Risk written by James F. Short, Jr. and published by Westview Press. This book was released on 1992-08-26 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day, individuals, groups, and organizations make decisions that involve uncertainty and risk - and, often, important consequences for society. Increasingly, our lives are being defined by large-scale organizational decision processes involving governments, businesses and other institutions. This book examines the nature of decisionmaking by organizations confronted with various risks, focusing on choices in which technology and scientific advances play major roles. The contributors also look at the regulatory agencies that set and enforce standards of health and safety. Within the literature on risk analysis this book is unique in its integration of social theory with wide variety of case examples. Theories of rational choice advanced by neoclassical economics and cognitive psychology are critically examined in view of the importance of the context for decisionmaking. Specific avenues for the study of the organizational/institutional contexts of decisionmaking and the process of socially constructing risk objects are proposed as a means of correcting the weaknesses of these theories. The contributors examine the strategies of manufacturing and communications firms, neonatal intensive care units of hospitals, and a major U.S. governmental strategies are given: how energy choices are made in France and how expert advice and formal public involvement are incorporated into risk-related policy decisions in Britain. Field studies of regulatory agencies in Britain at both policymaking and enforcement levels are also included.
