Book excerpt: Preliminary results on the Doubly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays (DCSD) D[sup +] [yields] K[sup +][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]] and D[sup +] [yields] K[sup +]K[sup +]K[sup [minus]] from roughly 40% of the E791 data set are summarized. The authors present an analysis of candidate events from E791 data in these decay modes. They show that there is a clear signal in the D[sup +] [yields] K[sup +][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]] mode and discuss backgrounds and sources of error in the results. They disagree with a published signal level in the D[sup +] [yields] K[sup +]K[sup +]K[sup [minus]] mode.

The experimental apparatus involves a magnetic spectrometer with two Cerenkov counters, a calorimeter and a muon detector for particle identification. In addition, other rare K[sup+] decays are studied. The experiment has been collecting data since 1995, and preliminary results are presented.

The analysis is based on the moments of the joint angular distributions of the decay to the K−?} system, with subsequent? decay to?+?−?0. The resulting J{sup P} = 2−, 2+ and 3− amplitudes exhibit resonant behavior, and are discussed in the context of the relevant Briet-Wigner fits.

Using the method of double-tagging, BES performed the first model-independent measurement of BrD[sub s[yields][phi][pi]]. Our result was Br[sub D[sub s][yields][phi][pi]]= 3.4[sub[minus]1.7-0.7][sup+4.8+1.3].
