This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing demand on improving the resiliency of modern structures and infrastructure requires ever more critical and complex designs. Therefore, the need for accurate and efficient approaches to assess uncertainties in loads, geometry, material properties, manufacturing processes, and operational environments has increased significantly. Reliability-based techniques help develop more accurate initial guidance for robust design and help to identify the sources of significant uncertainty in structural systems. Reliability-Based Analysis and Design of Structures and Infrastructure presents an overview of the methods of classical reliability analysis and design most associated with structural reliability. It also introduces more modern methods and advancements, and emphasizes the most useful methods and techniques used in reliability and risk studies, while elaborating their practical applications and limitations rather than detailed derivations. Features: Provides a practical and comprehensive overview of reliability and risk analysis and design techniques. Introduces resilient and smart structures/infrastructure that will lead to more reliable and sustainable societies. Considers loss elimination, risk management and life-cycle asset management as related to infrastructure projects. Introduces probability theory, statistical methods, and reliability analysis methods. Reliability-Based Analysis and Design of Structures and Infrastructure is suitable for researchers and practicing engineers, as well as upper-level students taking related courses in structural reliability analysis and design.

Book Synopsis Precast concrete bridge continuity over piers by : FIB – International Federation for Structural Concrete
Download or read book Precast concrete bridge continuity over piers written by FIB – International Federation for Structural Concrete and published by FIB - International Federation for Structural Concrete. This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete bridges are an important part of today's road infrastructure. An important part of those concrete bridges is to a large extent prefabricated. Precast concrete enables all the advantages of an industrialized process to be fully utilized. Contemporary concrete mixtures are used to realize high-strength bridge girders and piers that exactly meet the requirements set, both structurally and aesthetically, with a small ecological footprint. Sustainable and durable! On the construction site, there is no need for complex formwork, the execution time is drastically reduced and where road, water and rail traffic on or under the bridge has to be temporarily interrupted, it is only minimally inconvenienced during the execution of the project. There is a wide variety of prefabricated bridges. In 2004, the fib commission on prefabrication already published the Bulletin 29 Precast concrete bridges which, in addition to the history of prefabricated bridges, also gave an overview of the different bridge types and structural systems. This document elaborates on one specific structural system: the continuous bridge. Task Group 6.5 "Precast concrete bridges" discusses in detail how to achieve continuity over the piers with precast elements. This bulletin bundles the experiences of experts in the field of bridge design so that less experienced designers would be able to identify the points of attention and make a correct design. In addition to the theoretical considerations, the principles are tested against three realizations in the USA and Europe. Commission 6 thanks the Co-Conveners Maher Tadros and Hugo Corres and all active members of the Task Group for sharing their knowledge and experience and for the successful realization of this bulletin.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) utilizes rigorous planning, new technologies, and improved methods to expedite construction. Prefabricated columns and their connections to adjoining bridge members (cap beams, footings, pile caps, and pile shafts) are the most critical components of ABC in moderate- and high-seismic regions. The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Research Report 935: Proposed AASHTO Seismic Specifications for ABC Column Connections develops AASHTO specifications for three types of precast column connections to facilitate ABC implementation in moderate- and high-seismic regions.
