Book Synopsis Partial-depth Repair of Jointed PCC Pavements by : Samuel Sims Tyson
Download or read book Partial-depth Repair of Jointed PCC Pavements written by Samuel Sims Tyson and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The installation of durable patches on jointed portland cement concrete pavement using several types of cast-in-place concrete, is described. The recommended procedures for pavement preparation and patch installation are given, and additional maintenance procedures as cleaning and sealing joints and assuring proper drainage are briefly discussed. The successful evaluation of proprietary products for repair concretes through a laboratory determination of concrete properties, field use of acceptable products, and the assessment of performance data during and after installation is discussed. Included in this study were some of the cements, admixtures, and other special products for repair concretes, from a list maintained by the Materials Division of the Virginia Department of Highways & Transportation to provide assistance in the selection of the proprietary products. A production chart is presented as an aid in estimating the number of patches that can be installed during typical lane closure periods. Concretes with short curing times increased potential production, however, the selection of a repair product is acknowledged to also be dependent on factors such as cost and availability of materials. A procedure for installing precast patches for partial-depth repairs is described however; the rate of pavement preparation is too slow to make this procedure a viable alternative to cast-in-place patching.

Book Synopsis Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance by : Norbert Delatte
Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-09-12 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete Pavements written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board. Committee on Rigid Pavement Design and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design investigations and limited testing of model and prototype slabs indicate that prestressed pavements permit a more efficient use of construction materials in terms of required pavement thickness. Prestressed pavements can be designed with fewer joints and with less probability of cracking than conventional rigid pavements, thereby promising extended pavement life and reduced maintenance requirements. Information relative to the design and construction of prestressed concrete pavements is presented. Recommendations are developed on planning, design, and areas of engineering investigation and research. Minimum tests are recommended for experimental highway pavements. Design variables are discussed with factors affecting design.
