Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of special interest to pavement designers, materials engineers, and others seeking information on portland cement concrete resurfacings (overlays) placed over both portland and asphalt cement concrete pavements. Information is presented on the various practices in use for the design, material selection, and construction techniques associated with each pavement type. Additional information is provided on resurfacing experience and performance, including an Appendix cataloging more than 700 existing resurfacing projects in North America. Transportation agencies in the United States are continuing to develop pavement management systems which take an objective and structured approach to life-cycle cost analysis requirements for pavement rehabilitation project analysis. This report of the Transportation Research Board also discusses the considerations involved in the selection of technically feasible resurfacing alternatives. Based on the longitudinal experience of 375 resurfacing projects that were cataloged in 1982 and the more than 700 projects identified in 1993, much useful information on the performance characteristics of portland cement concrete resurfacing is presented.
Download or read book SPS-6 written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nineteen test sections were constructed by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) as part of Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) Specific Pavement Studies (SPS)-6 experiment. The SPS-6 program addresses the rehabilitation of jointed portland cement concrete pavement. The objective of the SPS-6 experiment is to develop improved performance prediction models to be used for determining the additional pavement life that can be expected from the application of a variety of JCP pavement rehabilitation methods, ranging from minimal to maximum investment. Construction of the 19 SPS-6 test sections was successfully incorporated in ADOT project IR-40-4(123) on I-40 at Flagstaff. Eight of the 19 test sections meet the basic SHRP requirements for the experiment. The additional 11 sections were designed by ADOT to evaluate features that are not included in the SHRP experiment design.

Book Synopsis Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance by : Norbert Delatte
Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-09-12 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of a Concrete Pavement Restoration Project in Virginia by : Thomas E. Freeman
Download or read book Evaluation of a Concrete Pavement Restoration Project in Virginia written by Thomas E. Freeman and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this Federal Highway Administration Demonstration Project was to evaluate the installation and performance of a section of I-81 in Botetourt County, Virginia, that was rehabilitated by concrete pavement restoration (CPR) methods. The seven repair techniques used were (1) slab replacement, (2) patching, (3) slab stabilization (4) surface grinding, (5) joint resealing, (6) subdrain installation, and (7) load transfer restoration. Although the individual repair techniques had varying degrees of success, CPR as an integrated system was generally effective in restoring the pavement's structural and functional integrity. It was recommended that the Virginia Department of Transportation routinely consider CPR as a viable alternative for pavement rehabilitation. It was also recommended that projects under consideration for restoration be carefully evaluated to ascertain whether their structural conditions render them suitable for CPR.
Book Synopsis Construction and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements Under Traffic by : Shreenath P. Rao
Download or read book Construction and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements Under Traffic written by Shreenath P. Rao and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With advancements in materials, equipment, placement procedures, and project management techniques, the construction and rehabilitation of concrete pavements can be effectively accomplished under traffic. Many projects have been constructed under varying levels of traffic, ranging from temporary closures to the maintenance of high traffic volumes adjacent to or through the projects. However, the current state of the practice in constructing or rehabilitating concrete pavements under traffic relies primarily on a few high-profile and well-documented projects. This study identified practices from projects representing a wider range of conditions and techniques. Information on existing practices and advancements in concrete pavement construction and rehabilitation was gathered through literature reviews and a survey of state transportation agencies, including that of the District of Columbia and the Illinois Tollway. Furthermore, sixteen case examples were reported to illustrate successful projects conducted under a variety of scenarios.

Book Synopsis Effectiveness of Existing Rehabilitation Techniques for Jointed Concrete Pavements by :
Download or read book Effectiveness of Existing Rehabilitation Techniques for Jointed Concrete Pavements written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information was collected from each of the six states in Region 5 of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on the procedures used to rehabilitate jointed concrete pavements. As built plans and specifications were obtained from a number of projects in each of the six states which had been rehabilitated and the performance of the pavements were studied after a number of years in service. Interviews were conducted with personnel of the Departments of Transportation from each state to collect as much information as possible concerning the current practices and techniques used for pavement rehabilitation. Where sufficient data were available, statistical correlations were made of the performance trends as they relate to specific rehabilitation practices. Current practices were compared with earlier practices and efforts made to determine the reasons for the changes. Results show that the performance is closely related to the workmanship in the field and the ingenuity of the engineers involved. Recommendations are presented for each of the rehabilitation techniques studied. Many problems still exist with all of the techniques studied. Further detailed data on the exact procedures and practices used in the field during the rehabilitation and performance after rehabilitation are desperately needed. Better record keeping is sorely needed on both the "as built" conditions and on the performance, so the effectiveness of the various practices can be documented.
