Download or read book Power Supply in Telecommunications written by Hans Gumhalter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important part of any communication system is its power supply system. The smooth operation of all communications depends on the quality of the power supply and on the operational reliability of the increasingly complex equipment and devices used for this purpose. This book describes current power supply technologies, it explains the circuit techniques using easy-to-understand examples and illustrations. Also covered are automatic control, grounding and protection techniques as well as the design of battery and grounding installations. The book is conceived as a practical guide for those involved in planning installing, comissioning and servicing telecommunication systems, but it is also useful as an introduction to the subject.

Book Synopsis Terrorism and the Electric Power Delivery System by : National Research Council
Download or read book Terrorism and the Electric Power Delivery System written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-11-25 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electric power delivery system that carries electricity from large central generators to customers could be severely damaged by a small number of well-informed attackers. The system is inherently vulnerable because transmission lines may span hundreds of miles, and many key facilities are unguarded. This vulnerability is exacerbated by the fact that the power grid, most of which was originally designed to meet the needs of individual vertically integrated utilities, is being used to move power between regions to support the needs of competitive markets for power generation. Primarily because of ambiguities introduced as a result of recent restricting the of the industry and cost pressures from consumers and regulators, investment to strengthen and upgrade the grid has lagged, with the result that many parts of the bulk high-voltage system are heavily stressed. Electric systems are not designed to withstand or quickly recover from damage inflicted simultaneously on multiple components. Such an attack could be carried out by knowledgeable attackers with little risk of detection or interdiction. Further well-planned and coordinated attacks by terrorists could leave the electric power system in a large region of the country at least partially disabled for a very long time. Although there are many examples of terrorist and military attacks on power systems elsewhere in the world, at the time of this study international terrorists have shown limited interest in attacking the U.S. power grid. However, that should not be a basis for complacency. Because all parts of the economy, as well as human health and welfare, depend on electricity, the results could be devastating. Terrorism and the Electric Power Delivery System focuses on measures that could make the power delivery system less vulnerable to attacks, restore power faster after an attack, and make critical services less vulnerable while the delivery of conventional electric power has been disrupted.
Book Synopsis Telecom Power Systems by : Dorin O. Neacșu
Download or read book Telecom Power Systems written by Dorin O. Neacșu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses topics specific to the application of power electronics to telecom systems. It follows the power flow from national grid down to the last low-voltage high current requirement of a processor. Auxiliary equipment requirements, such as uninterruptible power supplies, storage energy systems, or charging systems, are explained, along with peculiar classification or suggestions for usage. The presentation of each telecom power system is completed with a large number of practical examples to reinforce new material.
Book Synopsis Communication and Control in Electric Power Systems by : Mohammad Shahidehpour
Download or read book Communication and Control in Electric Power Systems written by Mohammad Shahidehpour and published by Wiley-IEEE Press. This book was released on 2003-06-19 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first extensive reference on these important techniques The restructuring of the electric utility industry has created the need for a mechanism that can effectively coordinate the various entities in a power market, enabling them to communicate efficiently and perform at an optimal level. Communication and Control in Electric Power Systems, the first resource to address its subject in an extended format, introduces parallel and distributed processing techniques as a compelling solution to this critical problem. Drawing on their years of experience in the industry, Mohammad Shahidehpour and Yaoyu Wang deliver comprehensive coverage of parallel and distributed processing techniques with a focus on power system optimization, control, and communication. The authors begin with theoretical background and an overview of the increasingly deregulated power market, then move quickly into the practical applications and implementations of these pivotal techniques. Chapters include: Integrated Control Center Information Parallel and Distributed Computation of Power Systems Common Information Model and Middleware for Integration Online Distributed Security Assessment and Control Integration, Control, and Operation of Distributed Generation Agent Theory and Power Systems Management e-Commerce of Electricity A ready resource for both students and practitioners, Communication and Control in Electric Power Systems proves an ideal textbook for first-year graduate students in power engineering with an interest in computer communication systems and control center design. Designers, operators, planners, and researchers will likewise appreciate its unique contribution to the professional literature.
