Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of poetry started with no thought process at all. A few poems written over many years. Mostly with very personal messages to family and friends. Poems to my husband, my grandchildren, my friends. Then, for unknown reasons I started writing about life. My life, the lives of people I know and simply life in the world in which I live. Many of these poems lean close to my heart, thus the title. They certainly do reflect my personal thoughts on life, love, loss and laughter. Asterisked titles are titles given to me over time by my BFF who challenged me to write the poem. You might say she spurred me on! The world I grew up in and the world my grandchildren are growing up in are so significantly different it’s sometimes hard to even imagine. My poems reflect the changes both good and bad as perceived by the writer. Some strike on my past, some on the sadness of today’s world and some simply on the joy I see in life. I hope you find comfort, humour, and a wee bit of quietude in some of the poems and that you see the beauty of life both in the human factor and the world we’ve been given to care for.

Book excerpt: Poems from the heart is an emotional poetry book on real or fantasy experiences by me or people I have come to know. I wrote my first poem when I was 12. I think that behind every poem lies a deep emotional story. This is a big help when it comes to writing novels as I can feel every bit of a poem. The cover consists of a heart with a dagger through it cracking it and a halo round one side. I think this cover describes every emotion within the book. For example the heart is where the poetry comes from, the dagger represents the anger and the hate, the crack represents weakness (a heart will crack under pressure) the redness of the heart is the passion and happiness and the halo represents the strength and the mending of a heart. The fear is represented by the crack as well. Most of these poems are based on true life experiences. My favourite poem is "My saviour dreams" as it describes me, I feel that I waste my mind working like a robot in a factory when my ambition and passion for writing is so strong. I decided that poems from the heart should be my first published book because it was poetry that I started off doing. I have set out the poems in order going from weak to strong, love to hate and back to love. I thought it was important to show a strength coming from a weakness and that love and hate can be so similar. That fear can make you more weary of the world and the people in it. I have really enjoyed writing poems from the heart as I am enjoying writing my novel. The poems towards the end of the book i.e. The London bombs, my single last tear and my saviour dreams are some of the most recent ones. I just hope that people will enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Book excerpt: 100 of the most moving and inspiring poems of the last 200 years from around the world, a collection that will comfort and enthrall anyone trapped by grief or loneliness, selected by the award-winning, best-selling, and beloved author of How to Read a Poem Implicit in poetry is the idea that we are enriched by heartbreaks, by the recognition and understanding of suffering--not just our own suffering but also the pain of others. We are not so much diminished as enlarged by grief, by our refusal to vanish, or to let others vanish, without leaving a record. And poets are people who are determined to leave a trace in words, to transform oceanic depths of feeling into art that speaks to others. In 100 Poems to Break Your Heart, poet and advocate Edward Hirsch selects 100 poems, from the nineteenth century to the present, and illuminates them, unpacking context and references to help the reader fully experience the range of emotion and wisdom within these poems. For anyone trying to process grief, loneliness, or fear, this collection of poetry will be your guide in trying times.

Book excerpt: Despite unfathomable emotional pain, betrayal by loved ones, and a vicious cycle of yearning for outwardly love and attention, healing of the heart is possible! This book is not just words penned to make someone feel good. Poetry from the Heart is a book of deeply personal expressions that reveal many of my life experiences and the deliberate obstacles that God allowed me to go through to heal myself and to help heal others. Some of the poems were directly inspired by the Holy Spirit. This is the first of several books God put in me. In the process of writing this book, I found answers to questions that I had for years. God told me years ago that I would write poetry and that it would get published in a book that would provide me with answers to many question I had. It would also open my eyes about why certain things happened in my life. As I wrote the poems, God allowed the mysteries to unfold. And just as He told me I would, I found the answers that blessed me. The poem Where is God When it Hurts? is the one that inspired me most and triggered the birthing of this book. I went through a vivid time in my life that the only way healing came was through writing what I was feeling. Out of the writings came Poetry from the Heart. For this I am so grateful. I pray that this book will be a blessing to every hand that holds it and every soul that receives it. May it bring wholeness and healing to every part of you and help to lay the foundation for discovering the answers to questions that you, too, have pondered in your heart and never shared with anyone. ... BUT GOD HE THOUGHT I WAS WORTH SAVING To God be the Glory

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victorian Poetry and the Culture of the Heart is a significant and timely study of nineteenth-century poetry and poetics. It considers why and how the heart became a vital image in Victorian poetry, and argues that the intense focus on heart imagery in many major Victorian poems highlights anxieties in this period about the ability of poetry to act upon its readers. In the course of the nineteenth century, this study argues, increased doubt about the validity of feeling led to the depiction of the literary heart as alienated, distant, outside the control of mind and will. This coincided with a notable rise in medical literature specifically concerned with the pathological heart, and with the development of new techniques and instruments of investigation such as the stethoscope. As poets feared for the health of their own hearts, their poetry embodies concerns about a widespread culture of heartsickness in both form and content. In addition, concerns about the heart's status and actions reflect upon questions of religious faith and doubt, and feed into issues of gender and nationalism. This book argues that it is vital to understand how this wider culture of the heart informed poetry and was in turn influenced by poetic constructs. Individual chapters on Barrett Browning, Arnold, and Tennyson explore the vital presence of the heart in major works by these poets - including Aurora Leigh, 'Empedocles on Etna', In Memoriam, and Maud - while the wide-ranging opening chapters present an argument for the mutual influence of poetry and physiology in the period and trace the development of new theories of rhythm as organic and affective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry's heart to heal the soul is based on some very touching inspirational things I have gone through in my life. With god as a guide and a light, I've been through many things and everything I've gone through I put it into love I call poetry, it's about good times and bad but always a meaning to explain life at that particular moment in time. It is a passion I have for life and the miracle it stands to be that I put into words. I see life kind of like music and a dream, and the power to create our own fate. A lot of it is gratitude for where I stand and my love to serve in this world, my wishes to help. Some of this literature is on religion some on limitless love, emotions I call a dimension on so many levels and outlooks I guess that's why it's poetry. When I write it's like my mind is filled with words and an understanding that I put to words in hope to interest or love in someway. I hope it is like a piece to a puzzle in some way or justice or helps someone to see life differently in a good way.
