Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Poetic Parables, Songs and Poems from an imperfect pen" is the first attempt at publishing for the author/composer, Vickie L. Detert. With the Lord and his gifts as inspiration, there are many more works waiting their turn to be shared. Their message of faith, forgiveness, strength, hope and love have been blessings to Miss Detert and others. Now, her prayer is to share them with as many as God is willing and she trusts He will guide them through each and every word. An added bonus to the music portion of this book is that each song is presented twice. The first presentation is as melody, chords and lyrics. The second is with a piano accompaniment. In most of the later, you will also find the pieces are written in a slightly lower key, thus giving the singers a choice of range. Miss Vickie L. Detert has been a life-long Christian who has, as most Christians, faced many of life's challenges with her God-given faith being the answer, the hope and the strength she has needed. As far back as she can remember, music and faith have walked hand in hand and so despite being convinced at a young age that writing was not one of her gifts, it was not surprising that in 1978 she began writing and composing pieces reflective of her faith. As a music teacher and church musician, Miss Detert has shared much of her writings with friends, family and local congregations. Now, she hopes the Lord will use this book to reach out and bless all of those who are moved to open it's cover and look within. Her wish is that God use her work to bring others closer to Him as it has done for her.

Book excerpt: Gibran Khalil Gibran (1883 – 1931) was a Lebanese-American poet, writer, and artist best known as the author of “The Prophet” (1923), which is one of the best-selling books of all time. Gibran's work covers such themes as justice, religion, science, free will, love, happiness, the soul, the body, and death. He is widely considered to have been one of the most important figures in Arabic poetry and literature during the first half of the twentieth century. Originally published in 1918, “The Madman" is a thought-provoking collection of aphoristic parables and poetry that explores the desires and motivations of humankind. Contents include: “How I Became a Madman," "The Two Hermits," "The Wise Dog," "The Good God and the Evil God," "Night and the Madman," "The Three Ants," "When My Sorrow Was Born," "And When My Joy Was Born," etc. Other notable works by this author include: “Music” (1905), “Rebellious Spirits” (1908), and “Broken Wings” (1912). This volume is highly recommended for fans Gibran's seminal work and it would make for a worthy addition to any collection. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

Enough of this unbelieving religion that masquerades as faith. Divine favor is placed on what we have disgraced. In God Speaks Through Wombs, Drew Jackson explores the first eight chapters of Luke's Gospel in a new poetic register. These are declarative poems, faithfully proclaiming the gospel story in all its liberative power. Here the gospel is the "fresh words / that speak of / things impossible." From the Magnificat ("That girl can sing! . . . She has a voice / That can shatter shackles") to the baptism of Christ ("I stepped in / Committing insurrection"), this collection helps us hear the hum of deliverance—against all hope—that's been in the gospel all along.

Men and women laughed at me and some ran to their houses in fear of me." Drawing from Jorge Luis Borges’ fascination with the library, Rollins uses the concept of the archive to offer a lyric history of the ways in which we process loss. “Memory is about the future, not the past,” she writes, and rather than shying away from the anger, anxiety, and mourning of her narrators, Rollins’ poetry seeks to challenge the status quo, engaging in a diverse, boundary-defying dialogue with an ever-present reminder of the ways race, sexuality, spirituality, violence, and American culture collide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Review of Book The first time I ever read Chad's Christian poetry, I was astounded. It was illuminating and alive. His poetry grabs onto you and sinks deep within, capturing the very essence of the soul. Understanding the simplicity of his poetry, yet the depth of it on a spiritual level, is fascinating. This statement conveys only a shadow of him. The heart of Chad Thieman can only be found in "101 Treasurable Poems of Faith, Hope, and Love." - Curtis Neil Curtis and I first met while working together at the Blockade-Runner Beach Resort, on Wrightsville Beach. He came to me and told me that he had read some of my work. He said that he would help me get published and ever since, we have worked together. Curtis is my investment partner and promotional manager. - Chad The book you are holding in your hands is a treasure chest of poetry, proverbs, and parables that can be used to reach many hearts. Every poem has a Bible verse prescribed to it, for further study and research on the topic discussed within the piece. This book is a great tool which can be used in adult Bible studies, youth groups, church retreats as well as for personal meditation and reflection.

Hedrick s dissatisfaction with figurative and metaphorical approaches or those that argue for a particular meaning or a single interpretation diverges sharply from the modern consensus and breaks new ground in parable studies.
