Book excerpt: With Britain by late 1916 facing the prospect of an economic crisis and increasingly dependent on the US, rival factions in Asquith's government battled over whether or not to seek a negotiated end to the First World War. In this riveting new account, Daniel Larsen tells the full story for the first time of how Asquith and his supporters secretly sought to end the war. He shows how they supported President Woodrow Wilson's efforts to convene a peace conference and how British intelligence, clandestinely breaking American codes, aimed to sabotage these peace efforts and aided Asquith's rivals. With Britain reading and decrypting all US diplomatic telegrams between Europe and Washington, these decrypts were used in a battle between the Treasury, which was terrified of looming financial catastrophe, and Lloyd George and the generals. This book's findings transform our understanding of British strategy and international diplomacy during the war.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Plot Against the Peace, which was first published in 1945, uncovers Nazi Germany’s secret plans for a Third World War. The book reveals how the behind-the-scenes clique which really rules Germany is plotting to undermine the peace, split the United Nations, and convert military defeat into actual victory. Written by two journalists who have won an international reputation for their exposés of fifth-column activities and worldwide fascist intrigues, this book offers thoroughly documented, indisputable evidence to prove that Germany’s undercover apparatus is at work in the United States today, laying the groundwork for a post-war secret offensive against America. The book disclosed how German spies and assassins are already carrying out their new assignments in the United States, as throughout the rest of the world. The Plot Against the Peace is a book that names names. Among the vitally important disclosures discussed are how Germany is secretly preparing for the continued post-war operations of the Nazi apparatus; the real story behind the German factories of death; the clandestine building of German hidden arsenals in Spain, Argentina and other countries; the plot for maintaining a Nazi-Junker officer corps in temporary exile abroad after the war; who are the “real brains” behind the German international network; how the Germans have smuggled funds, diamonds and other valuables into the United States to finance their post-war machinations; and what the German plans are for disuniting the United Nations, inciting international turmoil and thus making impossible the fulfilment of the Allied peace aims. The authors have left nothing to the imagination in their account of the hitherto untold secret history of Nazism, and in their description of the character and deeds of the German General Staff. But, as the authors write, “Those facts had to be recorded and they have to be read.” An amazing, revealing and urgent document.

Book excerpt: "The PanGerman Plot Unmasked: Berlin's formidable peace-trap of "the drawn war"" by André Chéradame Chéradame was a French journalist and scholar. Written right in the middle of the first World War, this book explains Germany's stance during the conflict in a way many lay people didn't previously understand. Through his work, he even predicted that only by dismantling the militarist German elites and institutions Germany itself would be at peace with the rest of Europe, which the Allies in fact did after World War II, dissolving both Prussia and the German General Staff.

Kahn earned an international reputation for his sensational exposes of secret diplomacy, fifth column intrigue, and the machinations of men in high places. His books, as Walter Winchell said, "pull no punches, name names." A graduate of Dartmouth College, where he was a famous athlete and winner of the Crawford-Campbell Literary Fellowship, Mr. Kahn became, in 1938, the Executive Secretary of the American Council Against Nazi Propaganda whose Honorary Chairman was the late William E. Dodd, former U.S. Ambassador to Germany. During the war years Mr. Kahn was editor of The Hour, a newsletter which achieved nationwide prominence for its numerous revelations and news scoops concerning fascist agents and Axis espionage rings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we near the Second-Coming, the battle between good and evil intensifies. Sadly, the forces of evil are winning; mainly because too many Christians and the churches they attend are going along to get along. They’ll stand for God—as long as they can do so in silence. If their “faith” costs them anything, they want no part of it. The Bible warns us that we must know the enemy, but most of us are clueless. It’s so much easier to bury our heads in the sand and act like everything is okay—even though we know it’s not. Our Lord and Savior died in this world so we can experience life-everlasting. Put another way, God allowed His Son to be treated like we deserve to be treated so we could be treated like His Son. Why? Because He loves us. In John 15:13 it is stated, Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. And in return for Christ’s sacrifice, most of us remain mute. We’ve quietly let Him be kicked out of our places of business, our schools, our government (at all levels), our courts, and in some cases our churches and homes. And then when we need Him, we, in unmitigated hypocrisy, call for a National Day of Prayer (for example: immediately after 9/11). The spiritual war we’re facing is almost at an end. What we do, or don’t do, will determine the outcome. Jesus said it best in Matthew 12:30, He who is not with Me is against Me. That’s about as simple and direct as it can get. The spiritual war we all face is raging, and acting as if we’re a neutral nation in WWII is no longer an option. The choice is ours. We either stand with Christ or we become His enemy.

Book excerpt: The New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice • A spellbinding work of history that reads like a Cold War spy thriller—about the U.S.-sanctioned plot to assassinate the democratically elected leader of the newly independent Congo “This is one of the best books I have read in years . . . gripping, full of colorful characters, and strange plot twists.” —Fareed Zakaria, CNN host It was supposed to be a moment of great optimism, a cause for jubilation. The Congo was at last being set free from Belgium—one of seventeen countries to gain independence in 1960 from ruling European powers. At the helm as prime minister was charismatic nationalist Patrice Lumumba. Just days after the handover, however, the Congo’s new army mutinied, Belgian forces intervened, and Lumumba turned to the United Nations for help in saving his newborn nation from what the press was already calling “the Congo crisis.” Dag Hammarskjöld, the tidy Swede serving as UN secretary-general, quickly arranged the organization’s biggest peacekeeping mission in history. But chaos was still spreading. Frustrated with the fecklessness of the UN and spurned by the United States, Lumumba then approached the Soviets for help—an appeal that set off alarm bells at the CIA. To forestall the spread of Communism in Africa, the CIA sent word to its station chief in the Congo, Larry Devlin: Lumumba had to go. Within a year, everything would unravel. The CIA plot to murder Lumumba would fizzle out, but he would be deposed in a CIA-backed coup, transferred to enemy territory in a CIA-approved operation, and shot dead by Congolese assassins. Hammarskjöld, too, would die, in a mysterious plane crash en route to negotiate a cease-fire with the Congo’s rebellious southeast. And a young, ambitious military officer named Joseph Mobutu, who had once sworn fealty to Lumumba, would seize power with U.S. help and misrule the country for more than three decades. For the Congolese people, the events of 1960–61 represented the opening chapter of a long horror story. For the U.S. government, however, they provided a playbook for future interventions.
