Book excerpt: Entertainment critic and film noir author Carroll Quint gets a panicky call from his mother, former movie starlet Karen Kass. Vicky Vandamn, a roommate of Karen’s some thirty years ago when they worked at Talbot Studios, disappeared from Hollywood under mysterious circumstances. Now she’s been found dead on her houseboat in nearby Sausalito, a reported suicide victim. Quint’s mother is certain that Vicky, who was involved with a rough Hollywood crowd, was murdered. “Act like one of those private eyes in your book, dear. And find out who killed her.” Quint tries to do just that, and soon finds himself tangled up with lazy cops, a paranoid PI, a billionaire former movie-studio head, and a peeping tom—who kept a very close eye on Vandamn. When all appears to be lost, Quint’s mother comes up with a revealing old still photo and a clue involving Fred Astaire’s hands that sets Quint on a collision course with the murderer. This second in the series delivers another dynamic story and an entertaining coterie of characters.

You will allow the author to take you on a journey that will allow you to see and feel the growing pains of America. You will also note how the religious fundamentalist have taken measures to control this country since it has begun. You will also note how the religious fundamentalist attempts to control the action of others such as the LBGTQ+ citizens and those citizens who would like to gamble in order to achieve the American dream. The author makes note of those who have taken and are still taking away the peace, comfort, and freedom of others in order to satisfy their needs. The author also provides information in a way that will allow the people to search their souls and feel empathy for others. The author would like Americans to realize the people that were destroyed as this country was growing and being established. The author noted that many Americans, young and old will see and realize the pain and suffering others endured as the first settlers came and took advantage of the Native people, took their land at will and put them on reservations. Americans today must be made aware that the pride they feel, is over shadowed by the pain and suffering of others. The author also notes, although our country is very much divided by many things, some of which are false and some of which are misunderstood. The author says we still have a chance to be the best we can be as a country. So, he would like to challenge each and every American to apply some introspection and get to know who they are. This book also denotes honor to the Americans that have been and are being treated with a perpetual strong hold of injustice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This books storyline is that of reptilians from the Andromeda Galaxy. The first earth ship to meet the reptilians was not a human ship but an advanced ship of the ancient and advanced race of the Vlar. The Vlar were a very high technology ancient race who expected to have no fear of the Snakes. However, the race of reptilians that were rapidly conquering all civilizations with which they came into contact were now a threat to all races, whatever their level of technology. A century ago, the Vlar never expected to be worried about the Snakes, as all civilizations called them. Their conquests had become so rapid and so had their takeover of advanced civilizations and their technology that they were now a threat to every being in the galaxy. The Vlar gave the earth humans some of their high-tech ships as a kind of last effort since they held the earth humans in such low regard. The Vlar thought of the earth humans as warlike, backward, and vicious animals who killed their own kind. However, there were very few options left open to the Vlar, so they gave the earth humans a few of their ships. The Snakes had millions of high-tech ships that carried thousands of Snake soldiers at several times the speed of light. The Vlar gave the earth humans a few dozen Vlar ships. The Snakes were over seven feet tall and weighed over five hundred pounds. They were equipped with fangs and claws like the Tyrannosaurus rex of old earth history. They liked to fight with hands or blade weapons to see the blood flow. They were cannibals in addition to being carnivores. They considered it honorable to eat your defeated foe, and they were not above eating their own children. The Snakes used massed ships in the millions to just roll over all the people they intended to conquer. It was expected of any failed Snake expeditions to commit suicide. The Snakes occupied over 1,400 planets and were continuing to conquer more as time went by. Apparently, none could stand before the Snakes. Could the small blue planet called earth have a chance to survive?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sermons in this anthology reaffirm the hope that is ours through Jesus Christ, and challenge readers to a deeper and more intense faith relationship with the almighty. The collection provides a complete set of sermons for each Sunday and major celebration throughout the Christian year based on the Second Readings from Cycle B of the Revised Common Lectionary. Outstanding preachers from across the denominational spectrum draw on texts from the New Testament epistles to explore how the practical and moral concerns of the early church offer lessons for modern Christian living. Each biblically grounded message confronts real issues with Christ-honoring solutions that bring challenge, comfort, and conviction to those who look at life with the eyes of faith. This is an essential resource that's useful for: - Fresh homiletical approaches to the lectionary texts - Preaching illustrations - A clearer understanding of scripture passages - Adult study and discussion groups - Personal devotions and Bible study on each Sunday's readings Rarely is there such a wonderful blend of the pastoral heart and the scholarly intellect. Frederick Harm's sermons draw on a wide spectrum of literature, from Luther to Paul Harvey, from Seneca to Yogi Berra, from Epicurus to John Bunyan. Harm's illustrations, far from being contrived or trite, naturally illumine the truths of the scriptures. Permeating each sermon is the deep desire to share Christ and his love with the hearer. Pastors will find ample ideas and inspiration in these sermons as they seek to build their own message for the people of God. Stephen A. Gewecke Counselor, Circuit 5 New Jersey District, Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod

At the time of his death at Little Bighorn, they owned a rollicking pack of 40 hunting dogs, including Scottish Deerhounds, Russian Wolfhounds, Greyhounds and Foxhounds. Told from a dog owner's perspective, this biography covers their first dogs during the Civil War and in Texas; hunting on the Kansas and Dakota frontiers; entertaining tourist buffalo hunters, including a Russian Archduke, English aristocrats and P. T. Barnum (all of whom presented the general with hounds); Custer's attack on the Washita village (when he was accused of strangling his own dogs); and the 7th Cavalry's march to Little Bighorn with an analysis of rumors about a Last Stand dog. The Custers' pack was re-homed after his death in the first national dog rescue effort. Well illustrated, the book includes an appendix giving depictions of the Custers' dogs in art, literature and film.

Book excerpt: Never before has a historically accurate novel telling of the day-to-day journey to the Little Big Horn featuring interesting characters been written, including the Gatling Gun Battery commander and his men. Custer takes his three Gatling Guns with him instead of leaving them at the Yellowstone River. The author, a retired Marine, came up with a plausible solution of how the heavy machine guns could have moved with the 7th Cavalry without slowing it down through rough terrain. The book has a "what if" flavor from beginning to the dramatic ending that any history buff will enjoy. A rip-roaring tale of the 1870's. About the Author: Donald F. Myers was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1952 at age seventeen he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. He retired from the Corps on 30 April 1973. Myers is Indiana's most decorated living Marine veteran. A recipient of two Silver Star medals for conspicuous gallantry, two Bronze Star medals for heroic achievement, five Purple Heart medals for combat wounds, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation medal for heroic achievement, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, and Vietnam Medal of Military Merit are among his 32 awards. The U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employed Myers after he was medically retired from the Corps. In 1990, he retired from the VA as a senior counselor. Myers also spent over 20 years with the Indiana Guard Reserve retiring from that military organization as a full colonel. He has authored six books. A father of two sons and three daughters Myers resides with his wife Dorothy in Franklin Township, a suburb on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

Book excerpt: The Real Custer takes a good hard look at the life and storied military career of George Armstrong Custer—from cutting his teeth at Bull Run in the Civil War, to his famous and untimely death at Little Bighorn in the Indian Wars. Author James Robbins demonstrates that Custer, having graduated last in his class at West Point, went on to prove himself again and again as an extremely skilled cavalry leader. Robbins argues that Custer's undoing was his bold and cocky attitude, which caused the Army's bloodiest defeat in the Indian Wars. Robbins also dives into Custer’s personal life, exploring his letters and other personal documents to reveal who he was as a person, underneath the military leader. The Real Custer is an exciting and valuable contribution to the legend and history of Custer that will delight Custer fans as well as readers new to the legend.
