The connection between this early experience and later activities of the author becomes clear as we learn that Tran Tu Binh survived imprisonment on Con Son island to help engineer the general uprising in Hanoi in 1945. The Red Earth is the first of dozens of such works by veterans of the 1924–45 struggle in Vietnam to be published in English translation. It is important reading for all those interested in the many-faceted history of modern Vietnam and of communism in the non-Western world.

The enormous differences between fiat unsecured paper currencies and the required intrinsic currency system of the United States Constitution is examined and discussed in depth. The Constitution is quoted, and it plainly states "that No State shall make anything other than gold or silver a legal tender in payment of debts," and yet all of the American States are today operating on a fiat unsecured currency system. This book encourages each and every reader to do some research and see if in their own opinion they agree with the one that I have formed, that the States are in non compliance with our Constitution on this issue. I firmly believe that the Constitution of the United States should be taught in all public schools. That historical content and background, and the writings of the founding fathers should be taught in all schools, as the well the iniquities of the past that brought the Constitution of the United States into existence. I believe that it would be a definite advantage to all children to learn of their rights from the first Government agency with which they have dealings in life. Adhesion Contract: "Standardized contract form offered to consumers of goods and services on essentially 'take it or leave it' bases without affording consumers realistic opportunity to bargain and under such conditions that consumer can not obtain desired product or services except acquiescing in form contract. Distinctive feature of adhesion contract is that weaker party has no realistic choice as to its terms." Blacks Law Dictionary, Sixth edition. There are also other constitutional issues brought forward as food for thought, for the purpose of encouraging discussion. And with that said I will refer people to the opinion of Thomas Jefferson. Book excerpt: Pharsalia, a plantation located in piedmont Virginia at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is one of the best-documented sites of its kind. Drawing on the exceptionally rich trove of papers left behind by the Massie family, Pharsalia's owners, this case study demonstrates how white southern planters paradoxically relied on capitalistic methods even as they pursued an ideal of agrarian independence. Lynn A. Nelson also shows how the contradictions between these ends and means would later manifest themselves in the southern conservation movement. Nelson follows the fortunes of Pharsalia's owners, telling how Virginia's traditional extensive agriculture contributed to the soil's erosion and exhaustion. Subsequent attempts to balance independence and sustainability through a complex system of crop rotation and resource recycling ultimately gave way to an intensive, slave-based form of agricultural capitalism. Pharsalia could not support the Massies' aristocratic ambitions, and it was eventually parceled up and sold off by family members. The farm's story embodies several fundamentals of modern U.S. environmental thought. Southerners' nineteenth-century quest for financial and ecological independence provided the background for conservationists' attempts to save family farming. At the same time, farmers' failure to achieve independence while maximizing profits and crop yields drove them to seek government aid and regulation. These became some of the hallmarks of conservation efforts in the New Deal and beyond.

Preventing the further destruction of forests and protecting species and ecosystems within forests have become central issues for environmental agencies, forest managers, and gove- ments. In this di?cult task science has an important role in informing policy and management as to how to go about this. So how do industrial and other pl- tation forests ?t into this? Plantation forests, comprised of rows of planted trees that may be destined for pulp or sawmills after only a few years of growth, appear to have little to c- tribute to the conservation of biodiversity. Yet there is more to this than meets the eye (of the casual observer), and there are indeed numerous opportunities, and often untapped potential, for biodiversity conservation in plantation forestry. With plantation forests expanding at a rate of approximately three million hectares per year, it is crucial to understand how plantations can make a positive contribution to biodiversity conservation and how the potentially negative impacts of this land use can be minimised. That is the topic of this book.
