Book Synopsis Phytohormones And Patterning: The Role Of Hormones In Plant Architecture by : Galun Esra
Download or read book Phytohormones And Patterning: The Role Of Hormones In Plant Architecture written by Galun Esra and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-06-25 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an experienced researcher in the field, Phytohormones and Patterning provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive information on the processes involved in the patterning of plant organs and tissues, as well as the role of phytohormones in organ development. It also provides an account of the molecular-genetic bases of plant architecture, with several hundred references included to facilitate easier literature search of this important field.Although plant patterning and plant hormones are very active fields of endeavor, there are limited reviews focussing on specific topics such as root patterning and short apex differentiation. This book, which deals with the subject matter extensively, will provide a much needed comprehensive discussion on the entire scope of plant patterning, and the impact of phytohormones on patterning, which was otherwise missing.Students studying plant development will benefit greatly from the book, as will undergraduates in agricultural studies, and those studying plant genetics and plant breeding. As the book covers a wide range of topics, it will also be useful for researchers who may be interested in possible new fields, and to readers who may not be experts but who are interested to enhance their knowledge of plant development.
Book Synopsis Variation and Evolution in Plants and Microorganisms by : National Academy of Sciences
Download or read book Variation and Evolution in Plants and Microorganisms written by National Academy of Sciences and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-11-11 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The present book is intended as a progress report on [the] synthetic approach to evolution as it applies to the plant kingdom." With this simple statement, G. Ledyard Stebbins formulated the objectives of Variation and Evolution in Plants, published in 1950, setting forth for plants what became known as the "synthetic theory of evolution" or "the modern synthesis." The pervading conceit of the book was the molding of Darwin's evolution by natural selection within the framework of rapidly advancing genetic knowledge. At the time, Variation and Evolution in Plants significantly extended the scope of the science of plants. Plants, with their unique genetic, physiological, and evolutionary features, had all but been left completely out of the synthesis until that point. Fifty years later, the National Academy of Sciences convened a colloquium to update the advances made by Stebbins. This collection of 17 papers marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Stebbins' classic. Organized into five sections, the book covers: early evolution and the origin of cells, virus and bacterial models, protoctist models, population variation, and trends and patterns in plant evolution.

Book Synopsis Plant Reproductive Ecology : Patterns and Strategies by : Jon and Lesley Lovett-Doust Professor of Biology the University of Windsor
Download or read book Plant Reproductive Ecology : Patterns and Strategies written by Jon and Lesley Lovett-Doust Professor of Biology the University of Windsor and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1988-07-07 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of reviews by leading investigators examines plant reproduction and sexuality within a framework of evolutionary ecology, providing an up-to-date account of the field. The contributors discuss conceptual issues, showing the importance of sex allocation, sexual selection and inclusive fitness, and the dimensions of paternity and maternity in plants. The evolution, maintenance, and loss of self-incompatibility in plants, the nature of 'sex choice' in plants, and sex dimorphism are all explored in detail. Specific forms of biotic interactions shaping the evolution of plant reproductive strategy are discussed, and a taxonomically based review of the reproductive ecology of non-angiosperm plant groups, such as bryophytes, ferns, and algae, is presented. Together these studies focus on the complexities of plant life cycles and the distinctive reproductive biologies of these organisms, while showing the similarities between nonflowering plants and the more thoroughly documented flowering species.
