Book Synopsis Retail and Commercial Planning (RLE Retailing and Distribution) by : Ross Davies
Download or read book Retail and Commercial Planning (RLE Retailing and Distribution) written by Ross Davies and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-09 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in the philosophy of planning and the political influences behind it have led to an increasingly ambivalent approach to retail and commercial matters and a lack of clear goals and objectives as to what both central government and the local authorities should be concerned with. It begins by examining the growth of office blocks and shopping centres, and goes on to analyse and criticise the existing planning processes, suggesting alternative procedures. It looks at the dual needs of development on the one hand and renovation and redevelopment on the other and discusses how these should be dealt with in the future. More specific problems are also examined: the impact created by new shopping schemes, the decline of small shops and related activities, the conflict over transport demands and provisions and the special physical needs of particular urban and rural environments. Throughout, the argument is supported by detailed examples of particular developments. Originally published 1984.

Book excerpt: First published in 1974, The Literature and Study of Urban and Regional Planning discusses the processes of spatial planning and the range of subject knowledge which is required to contribute to it. It describes the physical forms in which the literature relating to spatial planning is usually presented and the ways in which this literature is made available in different types of organization. The author gives details of the most useful libraries whose facilities are available to students, and of the research which is being undertaken into the principal problems of planning information. The second part of the book consists of a subject bibliography, divided for ease of reference into twenty-six sections each concerned with a component part of spatial planning and containing annotated references to books, official publications, developmental plans, legislation, and other material. This book will be of interest to students of sociology and urban studies.
Book Synopsis Planning for Retail Development by : Clifford Guy
Download or read book Planning for Retail Development written by Clifford Guy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-10-11 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a leading expert in the field, this is the first thorough critical review of retail planning policy in Britain (including Scotland and Wales). It covers recent changes in government policy and guidance, and examines retail policy within a broader economic and social context. Planning for Retail Development explains key events and debates in the evolution of retail planning policy, at central and local government levels, since the 1960s and draws contrasts between the 1980s, a period in which retail developers were encouraged by central government to expand away from town centres, and the more recent emphasis on protection and promotion of town centres as the most appropriate location for new development. The book develops a critical evaluation of past and present retail planning policies, based upon analyses of retailers’ objectives and of typical consumer shopping behaviour. Relationships between retail planning and wider societal concerns, including sustainable development, social inclusion and urban regeneration are also examined and analysed and guidelines for future policy objectives and content are drawn.

With the increasing importance attached to district-wide development plan policies since 1991, local planning authorities and community groups have an important opportunity to improve their control over the built environment. This research text explains how clear, comprehensive and effective policies can be researched, written and implemented.

Download or read book Planning Law and Practice written by J. Cameron Blackhall and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The law relating to town and country planning has a major impact upon the physical environment and affects private citizens, landowners and developers alike. This third edition is a comprehensive text for students, practitioners and members of the general public on this difficult area of law. Following the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the third edition of Planning Law and Practice contains a complete revision of plan-making and the control of development as well as incorporating recent case law. Together this provides up-to-date details of the operation of the current English planning system. The successful format adopted in the first edition of this book, which was awarded the Gold Award for Best Reference Work by the Chartered Institute of Building in 1999, has been retained. Planning legislation is dealt with in the main chapters, while further chapters use relevant case law to amplify the sometimes complex statutory material. In addition, the book outlines other areas of land law such as European legislation, non-planning controls and public investment.

Book Synopsis Community Associations by : Donald R. Stabile
Download or read book Community Associations written by Donald R. Stabile and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2000-06-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history human beings have formed communities spontaneously with residences constructed haphazardly. Today a new type of community is emerging—one planned from the start regarding housing location, style, and governance. These Community Associations (CAs) have increased in number from 500 in 1960 to 205,000 in 1998. This book explores the issues surrounding this housing innovation and provides a history of community associations and their membership organization, the Community Associations Institute (CAI). The book explores the process of trial and error in the design of CAs and how the CAI was set up to help them work. It opens with a consideration of the economics of land, housing, and community associations; explores the social, intellectual, legal background for CAs; and surveys their development in the United States. After considering the FHA's role, the book focuses on the development of the CAI .
