Book Synopsis Finite Geometries by : Peter Dembowski
Download or read book Finite Geometries written by Peter Dembowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Dembowski was born in Berlin on April 1, 1928. After studying mathematics at the University of Frankfurt of Main, he pursued his graduate studies at Brown Unviersity and the University of Illinois, mainly with R. Baer. Dembowski returned to Frankfurt in 1956. Shortly before his premature death in January 1971, he had been appointed to a chair at the University of Tuebingen. Dembowski taught at the universities of Frankfurt and Tuebingen and - as visiting Professor - in London (Queen Mary College), Rome, and Madison, WI. Dembowski's chief research interest lay in the connections between finite geometries and group theory. His book "Finite Geometries" brought together essentially all that was known at that time about finite geometrical structures, including key results of the author, in a unified and structured perspective. This book became a standard reference as soon as it appeared in 1968. It influenced the expansion of combinatorial geometric research, and left its trace also in neighbouring areas.

Book Synopsis Teaching Peace amidst Conflict and Postcolonialism by : Christopher P. Davey
Download or read book Teaching Peace amidst Conflict and Postcolonialism written by Christopher P. Davey and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world where post-conflict and postcolonial countries struggle to heal from the past and meet new challenges, peace education is often neglected and instrumentalized for political agendas. Drawing on case studies from Afghanistan, Bolivia, Burundi, Colombia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay, this book shows that cultural and structural violence can, in turn, lead to direct violence. An effective program of peace education responds to these dynamics meeting our urgent problems and opening up new opportunities for peacebuilding. With this direction in mind, this book addresses the practices of peace education from around the world. The fundamental question answered here is: can peace be taught, especially where the scars of war and legacies of colonialism are entrenched in society? Peace education is foundational to a more equitable future where global citizens share a planet in justice, equity, with human security, and all the elements of sustainable, resilient peace. Foremost, it is an essential pillar for societies scarred by violence.

Download or read book Rod of Moses written by John W Green and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1923. When RAF airman Jack Toulson finds a wooden box buried in the desert, he hopes to uncover a cache of jewels or even an antique sword, but all it contains is a worthless old stick with Arabic writing on it. Disappointed, he shoves it into his bag and thinks no more of it. The next day, he decides to take a picture of the empty horizon with his new Kodak Hawk-Eye, but when the picture is developed, it shows a camel-train that had not been there. He concludes it must be a fault with the camera. Jack is wrong on both counts. The stick he held in his hands, and the camel train that appeared in his photograph, were a window into another time a thousand years before Christ - a time when King Solomon tried to seduce the beautiful Queen of Sheba by entrusting her with the most precious artefact known to man: the Rod of Moses. In this gripping novel, the power of the Rod echoes down the generations, from ancient Egypt right through to the present day.
