Book Synopsis Generating Plans from Proofs by : Michael Benedikt
Download or read book Generating Plans from Proofs written by Michael Benedikt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Query reformulation refers to a process of translating a source query—a request for information in some high-level logic-based language—into a target plan that abides by certain interface restrictions. Many practical problems in data management can be seen as instances of the reformulation problem. For example, the problem of translating an SQL query written over a set of base tables into another query written over a set of views; the problem of implementing a query via translating to a program calling a set of database APIs; the problem of implementing a query using a collection of web services. In this book we approach query reformulation in a very general setting that encompasses all the problems above, by relating it to a line of research within mathematical logic. For many decades logicians have looked at the problem of converting "implicit definitions" into "explicit definitions," using an approach known as interpolation. We will review the theory of interpolation, and explain its close connection with query reformulation. We will give a detailed look at how the interpolation-based approach is used to generate translations between logic-based queries over different vocabularies, and also how it can be used to go from logic-based queries to programs.

Book Synopsis European Workshop on Planning by : Joachim Hertzberg
Download or read book European Workshop on Planning written by Joachim Hertzberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-08-28 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planning - formulating a course of action - and related fields like scheduling or reasoning about action have a long research tradition in artificial intelligence. However, there seems to have been a communications problem among European planners, with many of them unaware of good work done in neighboring countries. This volume contains ten papers presented at the European Workshop on Planning held in Sankt Augustin, Germany, March 1991. The purpose of the workshop was to provide a forum for presenting work in planning and related areas done by European researchers. The papers provide a snapshot of planning research at present being done in Europe. They describe work in the areas of plan generation, logical approaches to planning, planning under uncertainty, planning with time, and semantics of plans.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Logic Programming and Nonmonotonic Reasoning, LPNMR 2015, held in September 2015 in Lexington, KY, USA. The 290long and 11 short papers presented together with 3 invited talks, the paper reporting on the Answer Set Programming competition, and four papers presented by LPNMR student attendees at the doctoral consortium were carefully reviewed and selected from 60 submissions. LPNMR is a forum for exchanging ideas on declarative logic programming, nonmonotonic reasoning, and knowledge representation. The aim of the LPNMR conferences is to facilitate interactions between researchers interested in the design and implementation of logic-based programming languages and database systems, and researchers who work in the areas of knowledge representation and nonmonotonic reasoning.
Book Synopsis Intellectics and Computational Logic by : Steffen Hölldobler
Download or read book Intellectics and Computational Logic written by Steffen Hölldobler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `Intellectics' seeks to understand the functions, structure and operation of the human intellect and to test artificial systems to see the extent to which they can substitute or complement such functions. The word itself was introduced in the early 1980s by Wolfgang Bibel to describe the united fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive science. The book collects papers by distinguished researchers, colleagues and former students of Bibel's, all of whom have worked together with him, and who present their work to him here to mark his 60th birthday. The papers discuss significant issues in intellectics and computational logic, ranging across automated deduction, logic programming, the logic-based approach to intellectics, cognitive robotics, knowledge representation and reasoning. Each paper contains new, previously unpublished, reviewed results. The collection is a state of the art account of the current capabilities and limitations of a computational-logic-based approach to intellectics. Readership: Researchers who are convinced that the intelligent behaviour of machines should be based on a rigid formal treatment of knowledge representation and reasoning.

Download or read book Dynamic Worlds written by Remo Pareschi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reasoning is an integral part of intelligent systems in fields like databases, logic programming, robotics, knowledge engineering, human/computer interfaces, programming environments, etc. In reality any such system has to cope with a changing world and its dynamics. Hence it is of great importance that reasoning must account for coping with change in order to be truly useful in practice. The book comprises several contributions to current ways of approaching this problem. On the one hand it surveys and synthesizes recent research work, while on the other hand new research results are included. Among the topics treated are logics for reasoning about actions and planning, belief revision and the reconciliation of logically conflicting inputs, resolving of conflicts by merging of knowledge and issues in the evolution in object-oriented databases. The book is aimed at the researcher and advanced student active in this field.
