This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Middle Magdalena Valley (MMV) is an intermontane basin and petroleum province in northern Colombia. A succession of organic-rich source rocks deposited in the Cretaceous show excellent petroleum potential and have generated economic oil and gas accumulations within the valley. However, understanding the chronology of source rock maturation and generation with respect to the other petroleum system elements is complicated by the impact of the Andean orogeny on northern South America. To help resolve the MMV petroleum system, biomarker chemometrics of oil samples from discoveries in the basin are used to identify distinct petroleum tribes with characteristics indicating the presence of multiple source rocks. An examination of pyrolysis data from MMV wells finds six Cretaceous intervals with favorable organic matter quality and quantity within the Tablazo, La Luna, and Umir formations. Finally, a 3-D model of source rock maturation and generation from the Cretaceous to the present-day enables the incorporation of all petroleum system elements within the context of the basin evolution. The timing of maturation-generation for the Cretaceous interval and the petroleum tribes identified both support that the upper members of the La Luna Formation and the Umir Formation generated the majority of hydrocarbons discovered in the MMV.

Book Synopsis Petroleum Geochemistry and Source Rock Potential of Carbonate Rocks by : J. G. Palacas
Download or read book Petroleum Geochemistry and Source Rock Potential of Carbonate Rocks written by J. G. Palacas and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbonate rocks have diverse characteristics. They can be excellent reservoirs as well as prolific source rocks for oil. Oils from carbonate rocks commonly have distinctive bulk chemical and molecular characteristics that reveal their origin. The papers collected here are descriptions and interpretations (that is, case histories) of specific carbonate source rocks that range in age from Precambrian to Miocene.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "AAPG Memoir 79, The Circum-Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, is the first volume in more than a decade to document such a wide range of research on the geology of this vast area. Of the total 44 papers, roughly two-thirds pertain to the Gulf of Mexico, with an emphasis on the Mexican portion of the basin, and to the petroliferous areas of the southern Caribbean, including Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, and Trinidad and Tobago. The remaining papers relate to the Antilles and Central America, as well as a series of papers that address region-wide topics such as plate tectonic evolution. A significant number of papers were contributed by authors from national oil companies and universities from within the region." --AAPG.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been prepared by the collaborative effort of two somewhat separate technical groups: the researchers at the Institute for Petroleum and Organic Geochemistry, Forschungszentrum Jii lich (KFA), and the technical staff of Integrated Exploration Systems (IES). One of us, Donald R. Baker, from Rice University, Houston, has spent so much time at KFA as a guest scientist and researcher that it is most appropriate for him to contribute to the book. During its more than 20-year history the KFA group has made numerous and significant contributions to the understanding of petroleum evolution. The KFA researchers have emphasized both the field and laboratory approaches to such important problems as source rock recognition and evaluation, oil and gas generation, maturation of organic matter, expulsion and migration of hydrocarbons, and crude oil composition and alteration. IES Jiilich has been a leader in the development and application of numerical simulation (basin modeling) procedures. The cooperation between the two groups has resulted in a very fruitful synergy effect both in the development of modeling software and in its application. The purpose of the present volume developed out of the 1994 publication by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists of a collection of individually authored papers entitled The Petroleum System - From Source to Trap, edited by L. B. Magoon and W. G. Dow.
