Book Synopsis The Role of Organic Petrology in the Exploration of Conventional and Unconventional Hydrocarbon Systems by : Isabel Suárez-Ruiz
Download or read book The Role of Organic Petrology in the Exploration of Conventional and Unconventional Hydrocarbon Systems written by Isabel Suárez-Ruiz and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-03 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic petrology is a discipline of geology which integrates multidisciplinary approaches for the exploration and evaluation of fossil fuel resources by conventional and unconventional procedures. Organic petrology has brought forth new, powerful analytical tools for the characterization of geological hydrocarbon systems, thus providing information where previous analytical techniques prove to be less effective. The reference provides a broad, comprehensive source of information about the application of organic petrology in the investigation of geological formations related with the production and accumulation of oil and gas. Eleven chapters cover a variety of topics (kerogens, dispersed organic matter systems, sedimentary organic matter systems, oil and gas shales, etc.). Additional information in chapters referring to examples in specific geographical locations provides a global perspective of hydrocarbon exploration. The book is an introductory reference for all scholars involved in applied organic petrology of hydrocarbon systems including graduate and undergraduate geology students, engineers and lab technicians. [Series intro] Geology: Current and Future Developments is a book series that brings together the latest contributions to geological research. Each volume features chapters contributed by academic scholars / professional experts from around the world. The scope of the book series includes (but is not limited to) topics such as plate tectonics, climate science, hydrocarbon exploration, mineral exploration, and environmental science. This series is intended as a useful compendium of scholarly reference material for geology students and professionals.

Book Synopsis Microscope Photometry by : H. Piller
Download or read book Microscope Photometry written by H. Piller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last dozen years there has been a great development in the study of matter on the micro-scale by means of the light microscope, which has coincided with the rapid growth of auto mation and the use of computers. The manufacturers have responded to this challenge, and there is now available a large choice of modules for use with the microscope, both on the biological and non-biological side. This book is on microscope photometry. Photometry on the macro-scale can be applied to features of not less than about one millimetre in size. Below this lies the realm of microscope photometry which will be discussed both in theory and in practice. As a general rule no discussion of technical design of equipment is included, as such information is available in the handbooks of the particular manufacturers of equipment. It attempts to cover all the uses of the optical microscope photometer with its auxiliary equipment, and the first chapter describes the topics covered. In using the word' light' we apply its meaning to extend from UV to near IR. No attempt has been made to list all the works consulted. For each subject treated in this book a list is given of books and papers considered to be of key importance; in these will be found more detailed bibliographies.
Book Synopsis Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins by : Nancy D. Naeser
Download or read book Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins written by Nancy D. Naeser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of papers in this volume is a direct result of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists Research Symposium on "Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins: Methods and Case Histories" held as part of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Convention in New Orleans in March 1985. The original goal of the sym posium was to provide a forum where specialists from a variety of dis ciplines could present their views of methods that can be used to study the thermal history of a sedimentary basin or an important portion of a basin. An explicit part of that goal was to illustrate each method by presentation of a case history application. The original goal is addressed by the chapters in this volume, each of which emphasizes a somewhat different approach and gives field data in one way or another to illustrate the practical useful ness ofthe method. The significance of our relative ignorance of the thermal conductivities of sedimentary rocks, especially shales, in efforts to understand or model sedimentary basin thermal histories and maturation levels is a major thrust of the chapter by Blackwell and Steele. Creaney focuses on variations in kerogen composition in source rocks of different depositional environments and the degree to which these chem- . ically distinct kerogens respond differently to progressive burial heating.
Book Synopsis Advances in Petroleum Geochemistry by : Jim Brooks
Download or read book Advances in Petroleum Geochemistry written by Jim Brooks and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petroleum geochemistry has turned out to be more than another step in the direction to quantify geology and geosciences in general. Petroleum geochemistry as it is today may very well be the triggering event that brings the other branches of geosciences like sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, geophysics and others to a fruitful synthesis as evidenced by integrated basin studies.

Book Synopsis Bitumens in Ore Deposits by : John Parnell
Download or read book Bitumens in Ore Deposits written by John Parnell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the occurrence, interpretation and significance of bitumens (hydrocarbon residues) in ore deposits. Bitumens occur with a wide variety of ores, including deposits of base metals, mercury, uranium, gold and other precious metals. The papers included reflect this variety of bitumen occurrences and the potential for obtaining useful data from them. The contributions are written by acknowledged experts in this field, who cover analytical techniques and case studies using diverse petrographic and geochemical approaches which will give ore geologists and geochemists an excellent insight into the interpretation of bitumens during mineral exploration. The large number of plates in particular will help the non-specialist to make good use of the volume through the application to new deposits. This is the most comprehensive set of contributions published on a subject of growing interest; at a time when explorationists are increasingly recognising the occurrence of bitumens in ore deposits and the fact that the evolution of mineralising fluids and hydrocarbon fluids may be closely interlinked.
