Book Synopsis Water Policy in Minnesota by : K. William Easter
Download or read book Water Policy in Minnesota written by K. William Easter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-23 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minnesota has a unique role in U.S. water policy. Hydrologically, it is a state with more than 12,000 lakes, an inland sea, and the headwaters of three major river systems: the St Lawrence, the Red River of the North, and the Mississippi. Institutionally, Minnesota is also unique. All U.S. states use Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) approaches to addressing impaired waters. Every TMDL requires a substantial investment of resources, including data collection, modeling, stakeholder input and analysis, a watershed management plan, as well as process and impact monitoring. Minnesota is the only state in the union that has passed legislation (the 2007 Clean Water Legacy Act) providing significant resources to support the TMDL process. The book will be an excellent guide for policymakers and decision makers who are interested in learning about alternative approaches to water management. Non-governmental organizations interested in stimulating effective water quality policy will also find this a helpful resource. Finally, there are similarities between the lessons learned in Minnesota and the goals of water policy in several other states and nations, where there are competing uses of water for households, agriculture, recreation, and navigation.

Book Synopsis Trace Determination of Pesticides and their Degradation Products in Water (BOOK REPRINT) by : Damia Barcelo
Download or read book Trace Determination of Pesticides and their Degradation Products in Water (BOOK REPRINT) written by Damia Barcelo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-12-15 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trace Determination of Pesticides and their Degradation Products in Water is a critical compilation of analytical methods for the monitoring of pesticides and their degradation products in water. It contains up-to-date material and is the result of the authors' experience in the pesticide analysis field. The book is structured in six chapters, starting from general aspects of pesticides like usage, physicochemical parameters and occurrence in the environment. A second chapter is devoted to sampling from water matrices, stability methods of pesticides in water and quality assurance issues. The general chromatographic methods for pesticides are reported, including the newly developed electrophoresis methods and GC-MS and LC-MS confirmatory analytical methods. Sample preparation methodologies, including off-line and on-line techniques are described in the next two chapters, with a comprehensive list of examples of pesticides and many metabolites, including the use of different GC-methods and LC-methods. The final chapter is devoted to the development of biological techniques, immunoassays and biosensors, for the trace determination of pesticides in water samples.
Book Synopsis Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution by : William F. Ritter
Download or read book Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution written by William F. Ritter and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-15 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you work in the water quality management field, you know the challenges of monitoring and controlling pollutants in our water supply. The increasing problem of agricultural nonpoint source pollution requires complex solutions. Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution: Watershed Management and Hydrology covers the latest techniques and methods of managing large watershed areas, with an emphasis on controlling non-point source pollution, especially from agricultural run-off. Written by leading experts, the book includes topics such as: nitrate and phosphorus pollution, pesticide contamination, erosion and sedimentation, water-table management, and watershed management. The authors discuss the effects of agricultural run-off - one of the most intransigent problems now faced by environmental engineers and hydrologists. They explore each issue with an eye towards the integrated management of water quality and water resources over a defined area or region. This single-source reference gives you a complete understanding of the whats, whys, and hows of nonpoint source pollution - and more importantly of how to monitor and manage it. Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution: Watershed Management and Hydrology provides a broad but detailed overview that helps you to comprehend the intricacies of the problem and puts you on the path to finding the answers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pesticides in Ground Water is an amazing compilation of actual results from laboratory studies, field experiments, and well-sampling surveys ranging in scope from individual towns to the entire nation. The authors summarizes what is currently known about the physical, chemical, and biological processes that govern the sources, transport, spatial and temporal distributions, and fate of pesticides and their transformation products in ground water. Their conclusion is meticulously documented and illustrated with maps, tables, graphs and charts. In today's world, our dependence on pesticides causes a willful ignorance to their implications. Pesticides in Ground Water is a compelling wake-up call, supported with dedication and concern.
Book Synopsis Pesticides in Drinking Water by : David I. Gustafson
