Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Twelve Tingly Tales" is a mixture of fact and fiction. "Handyman," "John," "The Scientific Man," "Snake," "Toy Boy," and "Tough Guy," are complete works of the author's imagination. "Noises," however, is a story from his youth - one that was related to Hoskins by his parents when he was in his mid-twenties. Craig's father told him that his older brother and he slept through the ghostly brawl, and that he didn't get really scared until their mother turned on their bedroom light and there was no one in our kitchen. Craig's aunt related stories from her childhood upon which he based "Fearstruck," and "Katie." Essentially, they are as she told them and did really happen. Likewise, "Jason," and "Toto," were based upon truth. Hoskins' family did have two wonderful Labs with those names, and Jason did die suddenly after turning so sweet and attentive his last week. Toto did chase away a dog who threatened his Kelly. "Weeping Lady" is based upon a Mexican ghost story. Craig embellished the story with his American characters, but the essence of the story is the same. Read and enjoy... and think. Many times the truth is much stranger than fiction and much harder to believe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From Boots to Iwo Jima, A Marine Corpsman's Story in Letters to his Wife 1943-1945", by Sidney L. Landau, describes vividly and in great detail daily life in boot camp and in the battle zones of Guam and Iwo Jima. The letters, discovered after more than half a century, are sometimes humorous, sometimes sad, but always loving. They show the depth of feeling of a man yearning to see his wife and son again, and the comaraderie of fellow "mates" from all walks of life, living and working together. The letters describe visits to native villages and contain sketches and photographs from Guam and Iwo Jima. Included also are pictures of souvenirs and copies of official documents. "Pays homage to those who put their civilian lives on hold and risked their actual lives in combat - none more valiantly than the corpsmen who rescued and treated the wounded on the battlefield. A fascinating account." - George Rathmell, Literary Historian and Author of A Passport to Hell: The Mystery of Richard Realf "A rarity in the field of military memoirs, successfully combining family interest with combat experiences, creating a unified chronicle." - Oscar Kraines, Military Historian and Retired Professor of Constitutional Law "A truly great love story, interspersed with vivid descriptions of life in the Marines, in and out of battle. I felt as if I were there too, experiencing all of the writer's emotions. And with all, the author's sense of humor and eye for detail shine through brilliantly." - Lucille Small Alter, Former New York City Radio Commentator "A story told in a most unique fashion from letters mailed home. It brought back many shared memories, both good and bad, of that period of our lives." - Robert A. Erion, Pharmacist's Mate 1st Class, 3rd battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division 1944-45

This book tells novice writers what editors want them to know. The Essential Feature explains how to apply research and literary techniques to journalistic writing; provides eight examples of successful prize-winning published articles; combines approaches to writing with practical advice on working as a staff or freelance writer; and supplies publishing tips to give the beginning writer a better understanding of the market.

They start with Nellie the dinghy who eventually became the long, red, sleek speedboat named The Phantom. Some of the tales also involve the caravan that the author's father bought when Borry was thirteen years old. The family spent almost every weekend from March to October at St. Lawrence Bay in the wilds and farmlands of Essex, by the River Blackwater with recurring battles against screaming winkles, the bog of eternal stench and the evil mud sucking monster. Fun and frolics ensued for over forty-eight years.

Book excerpt: Thirty major contemporary writers examine life in a deeply divided New York In a city where the top one percent earns more than a half-million dollars per year while twenty-five thousand children are homeless, public discourse about our entrenched and worsening wealth gap has never been more sorely needed. This remarkable anthology is the literary world’s response, with leading lights including Zadie Smith, Junot Díaz, and Lydia Davis bearing witness to the experience of ordinary New Yorkers in extraordinarily unequal circumstances. Through fiction and reportage, these writers convey the indignities and heartbreak, the callousness and solidarities, of living side by side with people of starkly different means. They shed light on the subterranean lives of homeless people who must find a bed in the city’s tunnels; the stresses that gentrification can bring to neighbors in a Brooklyn apartment block; the shenanigans of seriously alienated night-shift paralegals; the trials of a housing defendant standing up for tenants’ rights; and the humanity that survives in the midst of a deeply divided city. Tales of Two Cities is a brilliant, moving, and ultimately galvanizing clarion call for a city—and a nation—in crisis.
