Book excerpt: "Pawned Sovereignty will be a collector's item, alongside Welsing's Isis Papers and Woodson's Mis-Education of the Negro." - Rolling Out Magazine ""Aharone's bold blueprint for black sovereignty sounds more like a long overdue prescription than an incendiary manifesto." - Lloyd Kam Williams, Syndicated Writer "The themes of Ezrah Aharones political book, Pawned Sovereignty, revolve around Black America being a "free," but not a "sovereign" people. The book however does not promote a sovereign movement, but rather a sovereign consciousness and evolutionary outlooks. "Since sovereignty (not civil rights) is the pinnacle of all freedoms, the book provides Black America with solutions and insightful viewpoints, based on sovereign-minded frames of reference. This approach pierces the core of mainstream body politics and leads to redefined ideals and worldviews which better serve Black/African interests. According to Aharone, "Such outlooks also help bridge the political and philosophical gap that now separates Hip Hop from the Civil Rights/Black Power generation." "A central premise of Pawned Sovereignty concerns what he calls different "Concepts of Freedom." According to Aharone, Black America's concept of freedom has historically been limited to "Civil Rights, Integration, and Citizenship." However, freedom for White America entails nothing less than "Sovereignty, Independence, and Statehood." Aharone says, "This conceptual distinction is arguably the most consequential, yet most unrecognized, source of racial disharmony and inequities. As a result, certain sociopolitical conditions that Whites would never tolerate have become normalized within the Black Experience." "Aharone surgically dissects and separates the flaws and misperceptions from the realities of American democracy, while drawing political distinctions between the character of America and the image of America. In prototype fashion, he reconfigures today's sociopolitical landscape as he expounds on 55 original topics. "Among other things, Aharone asserts that whether the issue is international terrorism; domestic crime and homicides; or inadequate numbers of Blacks in government . . . the solution does not lie within America's current "Brand" of democracy. Pawned Sovereignty addresses the root causes of such issues, while offering prescriptions to remedy both the human and systemic failures of American democracy. The blueprint he outlines will undoubtedly enhance or make you rethink your worldviews.

Book excerpt: I would be happy if Mt. Samat: An Easter Story contained some certain literary worth, but I cannot be the judge for my opinion is skewed and I feel unworthy in the arena of literary wisdom. I can; however, hope that the story is worthy of a reading at least by my children. I believe there can be no greater goal for fiction than to give the reader a true slice of the life of its characters, setting, and in a sense, speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Such is the value of Faulkner's Light in August, although I tremble to even mention that hollowed name when referencing something I have written. Thus my goal, other than to entertain the reader with words is to search for what remains hidden, and to reflect how it really was. Mt. Samat: An Easter Story is a fictional account of three days and nights spent by two companies of men near and on a mountain, Mt. Samat, over Easter weekend a few years ago. Men of different colors and cultures gather on the mountain with one common goal, the liberty of Asia, but liberty as seen through different eyes. Each company experiences dire trials and deadly difficulties as they try in earnest to do their duty. New acquaintances are made on the trail to the top and by surprise an old acquaintance is renewed. As the Sunday worship hour approaches, there is a wild rush for the summit; however, like the first Easter, blood will freely flow on Mt. Samat before the story ends.

Book excerpt: The Sovereign Psyche is not just the title of the book. More importantly The Sovereign Psyche is the motivating consciousness, intellect, and willpower that is necessary to materialize what the book defines as "Self-Authentic Freedom" as opposed to "Chattel Freedom." Chattel freedom is when the value of a people is predicated upon the extent to which they serve the interests and institutions of others. As such, this work asserts that there is no such thing as intellectual or institutional equality, and that Black/African people have been unknowingly thrusted into an intellectual and institutional war, where second-place finishers either experience varying degrees of chattel freedom or they could end-up dead. Regardless of the issue, genuine solutions entail what we as Black/African people intellectually and institutionally do for ourselves. If "Black Lives Matter" we must channel the end-uses of our intellect and the resources of our institutions to not only prove and enforce it, but also leverage powers to penalize and/or repudiate violators. Although this work centers upon Black/African people, the sovereign functions and frameworks herein are universal in application, being that todays world rotates upon systems of sovereignty and power, not beliefs in democracy or equality. In this context, the sovereign concepts and criteria presented are far more rational than radical. The central question is, to what extent will Black/African people harness the willpower and employ the intellect of The Sovereign Psyche to actualize our own systems and institutions of self-authentic freedom, government, and development, without apology or permission? This work offers the ideological apparatus to make this possible, just as others are doing all around the globe.

Book excerpt: Rated 24th Best Black Book of 2009 Inside Black Hollywood Magazine From emancipation to segregation to integration, African Americans exist today by virtue of a continuum of political evolutions, each of which is built upon prior legacies and achievements. In advancing our political progression, Sovereign Evolution re-declares freedom and equality in 21st-century terms, using sovereign principles and standards. Whether the issue concerns Katrina and Jena, or being underrepresented in Congress and overrepresented in penitentiaries, the common thread as Ezrah Aharone demonstrates, is that African Americans are an Un-Sovereign People, who pay varying degrees of Un-Sovereign Consequences. Thus, in a very methodical manner, he circumscribes sovereignty in a universal and historical context that confers African Americans with just as much integrity and authority as any other people to espouse and employ sovereign aspirations. The ideological framework herein self-applies and legitimizes the concept of sovereignty in ways that no other work has succinctly captured in politically-relatable terms, specific for African Americans. Realizing that not all African Americans will embrace sovereign values, Aharone uniquely specifies how a Sovereign Evolution can mutually advance the best interests of us all, without conflict or compromise to core beliefs of anyone. Accordingly, the book sets a platform to infuse sovereign discourse into mainstream domains that reach from street corners of the hoods, to Black universities, to church congregations, to the halls of Congress. The advent of President Barack Obama indicates a necessary and long-awaited political shift in time and history, which also conveys veiled implications of our sovereign potentials as a people. What once seemed politically improbable has proven to be politically achievable. Our only political limitations exist within the limits of our vision and courage. To this end, Ezrah Aharone factually sculpts the sociopolitical substance of our historical experience into a sovereign consciousness and political language to initiate a Manifest Destiny from Civil Rights to Sovereign Rights.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imperial Inequalities takes Western European empires and their legacies as the explicit starting point for discussion of issues of taxation and welfare. In doing so, it addresses the institutional and fiscal processes involved in modes of extraction, taxation, and the hierarchies of welfare distribution across Europe’s global empires. The idea of ‘imperial inequalities’ provides a conceptual frame for thinking about the long-standing colonial histories that are responsible, at least in part, for the shape of present inequalities. This wide-ranging volume challenges existing historiographical accounts that present states and empires as separate categories. Instead, it views them as co-constitutive units by focusing upon the politics of economic governance across imperial spaces. Authors examine the fiscal innovations that enabled European empires to finance their expansion, the politics of redistribution that were important to constructing the veneer of legitimacy of taxation, and the fiscal mechanisms that were established to ensure that the imperial contours of inequality continued to define the postcolonial world. These diverse contributions provide new resources for how we think about issues of taxation and welfare across the longue durée. This book is relevant to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10, Reduced inequalities

It didn’t matter if I killed him or not. The males will want me to hang. Jagger sends Knight and me away for a while but tempers are heated when we return. There are several attempts on my life, killing many of my sisters in the process. I learn more about Jagger, the dacked up mess my world that is far worse than I could imagine, and I’ve not only fallen for Knight and can’t imagine leaving without him. Knight: The men weren’t happy with how Jagger’s been running things, and now with his public display between Breaker and Red, it’ll just be a matter of time for his death to occur. I should sit back and watch it happen yet there’s something to his actions and words that are making me question everything I was taught and trained about in my home sovereign. There is a new rising taking place and it’s not because Jagger allowed Red to challenge Breaker publicly and allowed her to live. Words haunt me each day since they’ve been spoken and I wonder if this is the final demise to all of Jaru: old blood must pour for new blood to be born, lies are truths and truths are lies. Is our journey just beginning or will be perish as a species. WARNING: This series contains sensitive material. Reader discretion is advised.

Book excerpt: Tribal politics and a family torn apart are at the root of compelling conflicts revolving around the thought-provoking question “Do you believe life is pulled by fate or pushed by luck?” that keeps this tale moving in several directions. Who’s being manipulated, and who’s pulling the strings? Prisoner Prodigal Pawn is a complex murder mystery, set in Albuquerque, New Mexico that revolves around a law firm, an Indian casino, and tribal politics. The story unravels with Elton Mozingo, as the main suspect in the murder of his colleague at the Baxter and Baxter law firm, going on the run. Bill Baxter is the ambitious and successful lawyer who is preparing to run for political office. His equally ambitious wife, Liz, is going to take his place as head of the family firm. As the story continues, we learn that Elton’s father, who also worked for Baxter, is in jail serving a sentence for murder, eerily the same situation Elton finds himself in. The Mozingo brothers, Elton and Charles, as well as their convicted-felon father, BP, are the eponymous prisoner, prodigal son, and pawn caught up in an elaborate scheme that its perpetrators would kill to keep hidden. Elton and his estranged brother, a tribal police officer, have individually set out to investigate their father’s case, and are on a quest to clear his name. The quest will open a Pandora’s box of murder, betrayal and greed. When Elton seeks the aid of a childhood friend who uses him to pursue an agenda of her own, the brothers soon discover that there is virtually nobody around them whom they can trust. Prisoner Prodigal Pawn infuses a unique blend of family, intrigue, and corruption, with shocking twists. It is fast paced and full of adventure with an intricate plot, flawlessly woven with many interesting characters that will keep the reader turning those pages.
