Book excerpt: The meson has traditionally been understood as the bound state of a quark and an antiquark, but there is experimental evidence for exotic meson states, which have properties that cannot be produced by this quark-antiquark model. One candidate for such exotic systems is the hybrid meson, predicted by lattice QCD, which includes gluonic excitation in its wavefunction. One of the prominent decay modes of the lightest predicted exotic hybrid is expected to be b1[pi]. This dissertation presents an analysis of the [gamma rho] → [omega pi]−[delta]++ channel produced at the GlueX experiment, in the mass range where the b1(1235) meson is prominent. An amplitude analysis is performed on the decay of the [omega pi]− system, in order to extract the resonance parameters of the b− 1 , as well as analyze the resonant and non-resonant background.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work the S-wave component of the K[pi] amplitude from decay of D+ → K+[pi]+[pi]+ it is directly measured. The data come from the Fermilab E831/FOCUS experiment. The amplitude measurement is made using the partial wave analysis without any preliminary assumption about the nature of the S-wave component of the K[pi] system. The phase and magnitude of the S-wave amplitude are generic functions to be determined directly through the Dalitz plot fit. For the sake of comparison, our results the same decay is analyzed using the isobar model, which is the standard way to analyze the Dalitz plot. The data fit obtained with the partial wave analysis is better than the data fit from the isobar model. The phase variation with respect to the invariant mass K[pi] is compared with the measurement of the phase [Delta]$0\atop{I=1/2}$ (mK[pi]) from K[pi] → K[pi] scattering. The difference between both analysis is discussed considering: a difference in the composition of the isospin components I = 1/2 and I = 3/2 of the K[pi] system between D+ decay and the K[pi] → K[pi] scattering; and the final state interaction involving all particles from decay.

This has detoured our attention from the great enigmas posed by the dynamics and collective behavior of strongly interacting particles. Discovered more than 30 years ago, the thermal nature of the hadronic particle spectra has stimulated considerable theoretical effort, which so far has failed to 'confirm' on the basis of microscopic interactions the origins of this phenomenon. However, a highly successful Statistical Bootstrap Model was developed by Rolf Hagedorn at CERN about 30 years ago, which has led us to consider the 'boiling hadronic matter' as a transient state in the trans formation of hadronic particles into their melted form which we call Quark-GIuon-Plasma (QGP). Today, we return to seek detailed understanding of the thermalization processes of hadronic matter, equipped on the theoretical side with the knowledge of the fundamental strong interaction theory, the quantum chromo-dynamics (QCD), and recognizing the im portant role of the complex QCD-vacuum structure. On the other side, we have developed new experimental tools in the form of nuclear relativistic beams, which allow to create rather extended regions in space-time of Hot Hadronic Matter. The confluence of these new and recent developments in theory and experiment led us to gather together from June 27 to July 1, 1994, at the Grand Hotel in Divonne-Ies-Bains, France, to discuss and expose the open questions and issues in our field.
