Book Synopsis Batavia-Jakarta, 1600-2000 by : Ewald Ebing
Download or read book Batavia-Jakarta, 1600-2000 written by Ewald Ebing and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-01 with total page 1048 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an odd book. An extensive and sometimes annotated bibliography, it is not a book in the sense of a narrative. However, if treated as a book in the traditional sense it leads the reader through a broad spectrum of feelings of amazement, curiosity and desire: amazement about the sheer volume, richness and detail of theliterature on Batavia/Jakarta; curiosity about the contents of certain publications or series of publications with attractive titles; and a feeling of desire immediately to begin an investigation into one of the appealing subjects stumbled upon while leafing through. The bibliography contains over 5000 titles classified into 42 broad subject categories. The vast majority of the publications consists of books, but the number of articles is also very substantial. Most of these titles (3500) were produced after 1950. The larger part of the publications are written in Indonesian, Dutch, and to a lesser extent English. But also publications in such languages as French, Chinese, German, Japanese, Russian, and many others were listed. Indexes of authors, of subjects and of titles make this bibliography easily accessible.

Promising targeted agents are discussed, and strategies for the development of new agents are appraised. This handbook has far-reaching applicability to the clinical diagnosis and management of pediatric leukemia and will prove invaluable to specialists, generalists, and trainees alike.

Book Synopsis The Biological Standard Of Living On Three Continents by : John Komlos
Download or read book The Biological Standard Of Living On Three Continents written by John Komlos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-11 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effort of anthropometric historians to unearth the broad patterns of human biological well-being has led to the examination of nearly forgotten, centuries-old records from dusty archives in practically all the continents of the globe. French historians in the Annales tradition were among the first to adopt methods from physical anthropology and from the biological sciences, but the real expansion of the field dates from the pathbreaking work of Richard Steckel and Robert Fogel, which launched the discipline of anthropometric history on American soil Research has confirmed that physical stature is related to nutritional status and therefore to real family income, and thus to the general standard of living. Historians and development economists will find this line of research useful, as it informs us about the standard of living of members of society for whom data on wages are seldom available—women, children, aristocrats, farmers, and slaves. In addition, this research has shown that the biological standard of living may diverge from conventional indicators of welfare during the early stages of industrialization. Thus, per capita income is an ambiguous measure of welfare during some phases of growth, and it must be supplemented with data from other indicators, such as physical stature. The essays in this volume broaden our knowledge of the human effects of the momentous economic changes of the last two centuries, extending analysis to regions for which such information has been lacking, including Russia, Canada, Indonesia, Italy, and Spain.

The conference theme was "Strengthening Research Capacity and Disseminating New Findings in Nursing and Public Health". This event was successful in bringing together experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, and students worldwide. It was an inspiring occasion for most of the participants and was a great opportunity for research development learning, especially with regard to disseminating new findings in nursing and to stimulate networking of nursing professionals, researchers and educators. The research topics that were presented during the conference have clearly indicated the need for literature development and guidance of clinical practice decisions. We hope this conference has provided ample opportunities for participants to gain a more in-depth understanding of knowledge and renewed perspectives. All these aspects have been acknowledged by the participants during the conference. The 1st AINiC was a rewarding event and we look forward to your attendance and participation in the next AINiC conference that will also provide stimulating research developments, networking and cooperation.
Book Synopsis Improving Birth Outcomes by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Improving Birth Outcomes written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-11-28 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Birth outcomes have improved dramatically worldwide in the past 40 years. Yet there is still a large gap between the outcomes in developing and developed countries. This book addresses the steps needed to reduce that gap. It reviews the available statistics of low birth weight, prematurity, and birth defects; reviews current knowledge and practices of a healthy pregnancy, identifies cost-effective opportunities for improving birth outcomes and supporting families with an infant handicapped by birth problems, and recommens priority research, capacity building, and institutional and global efforts to reduce adverse birth outcomes in developing countries. The committee has based its study on data and information from several developing countries, and provides recommendations that can assist the March of Dimes, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and NIH in tailoring their international program and forging new partnerships to reduce the mortality and morbidity associated with adverse birth outcomes.
