Book Synopsis Indonesia's Small Entrepreneurs by : Sarah Turner
Download or read book Indonesia's Small Entrepreneurs written by Sarah Turner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the context of Makassar, on the eastern Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the book explores the socioeconomic and cultural relationships that make life for small entrepreneurs in Makassar so distinctive. Using a new framework for the study of small enterprises - the 'small enterprise integrative framework' - this book gives us a greater understanding of the organization and operations of small enterprises in developing countries, at both the micro and macro levels. The application of this new framework for research reveals the diversity of labour flexibility, networking and cluster styles amongst the enterprises studies, and the constraints they face for growth. Whilst the recent Southeast Asian economic crisis has been heralded by certain commentators as a new era for small enterprises in the region, the book concludes that local realities for the small enterprises in Makassar mean that, whilst for some it has been a time of shifting fortunes, others have continued trading on the margins.

Book Synopsis Resisting Indonesia’s Culture of Impunity by : Jess Melvin
Download or read book Resisting Indonesia’s Culture of Impunity written by Jess Melvin and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resisting Indonesia’s Culture of Impunity examines the role of Indonesia’s first truth and reconciliation commission—the Aceh Truth and Reconciliation Commission, or KKR Aceh—in investigating and redressing the extensive human rights violations committed during three decades of brutal separatist conflict (1976–2005) in the province of Aceh. The KKR Aceh was founded in late 2016, as a product of the 2005 peace deal between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). It has since faced many challenges—not least from Indonesia’s security forces and former GAM leaders, who have joined together in their determination to maintain impunity for their respective roles in the conflict. Indeed, the commission would not have been established without the tireless work of civil society actors, including non-government organisations and other humanitarian groups. In Resisting Indonesia’s Culture of Impunity, the editors set out to amplify the role of these civil society actors in the KKR Aceh and in transitional justice in Indonesia. Each chapter has been written by a team of authors, composed predominantly of commissioners and staff from the KKR Aceh itself, members of key civil society organisations, and academics. Further, the editors aim to scrutinise the KKR Aceh from the inside and analyse the establishment and operation of what is perhaps the only genuine state-sponsored attempt to implement transitional justice in Indonesia today.

Book Synopsis Impact of State Restructuring on Indonesia's Regional Economic Convergence by : Adiwan Fahlan Aritenang
Download or read book Impact of State Restructuring on Indonesia's Regional Economic Convergence written by Adiwan Fahlan Aritenang and published by Flipside Digital Content Company Inc.. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creation of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 1992 and decentralization in 1999 mark the state restructuring in Indonesia. This book analyses the impact of state restructuring on regional economic development in Indonesia between 1993 and 2010. Regional economic analysis shows persistent and severe regional disparities throughout the period. Particularly, econometrics study found that decentralization has accelerated regional disparities whilst the AFTA effect is insignificant on regional economic growth. Furthermore, historical institutionalism analysis on two cities - the manufacturing industry in Batam and the creative economy in Bandung - shows that past and embedded local institutions provide the capacity to adapt and create new development paths. The book suggests the importance of local-specific policies that embrace local knowledge and institutions to develop regional specialization and competitive advantage. This book fills the gap in Indonesian literature that lacks studies on the integrated impact of decentralization and trade liberalization, both economically and politically.
Book Synopsis Indonesian Electoral Behaviour by : Aris Ananta
Download or read book Indonesian Electoral Behaviour written by Aris Ananta and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2004 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Indonesia's plural society, ethnicity and religion are considered as independent variables to explain electoral behaviour. Many writers use qualitative methods to relate political party performance in terms of ethnicity and religion. This book questions these assumptions by looking at data on the 1999 election and the 2000 population census.
